She wont learn much stuck in a kennell,ffs,lol..

What would be the point in telling lies as sooner or later the same person you lied to is goin to either see or hear from someone else how the dog in question ran.Its the same in the terrier game, lads blowing up there dogs but it will all fall back on them someday then all you will hear is thats the 1st time the dog has come away. The worst thing i have seen was a chap selling a terrier and swearing the dog done this that and the other and then turn around and give the chap that was buying the terrier a trial with it and he known full well the dog was shite but was too full of himself to admit

Nice bitch digger, and nice size too.

Everyone has a different way of doing things. When you take out a young terrier for its 1st outing you are hoping for the best but you should also be prepared for the worst. Some will tie them beside the dig other's including myself will give them a look at the end of a dig if they dont travel before hand.I personally dont think its does them any harm as long as its only done once or twice, after that i would expect them to travel themselves. Then other's let them rag a dead one on top which is something i would not do,everyone has there own idea of doing things.

I work a staffxpatt halfx and he is smaller than most black dogs ive seen working. He is bred from 2 well tested parents, sire is patterdale about 8year old,dam is staff and about 5year old.His only draw back is that he is mute, some might not like that but i have no problem with it as long as he stays till dug.He is in no way aggresive and good around other dogs,he was easy to enter and has not looked back.I always liked the bit of bull in terriers, for a long time we had bullxrussells.

Im going to have to get that rule book that you have neil, lol

Fair play alan, keep him at it now he has the taste for it.

Ive had pups get stuck in from the off and more that would not entertain it for a second.I think, and this is only my opinion,if you also let the worker go with the pup in the pocket if there's room it gives a nervous pup more confidence, then when the pup is goin in at it lift the worker. Its a long time till next march,im sure your pup will get plenty of chances in between, best of luck with it and have a good season.
-
Done Deal,Local Trader, stay clear of them all because very, very few sell a good dog ,and certainly not at the start of the diging season. If you know someone that does a bit of diging and they have good diging dogs, you would be better trying for a pup of them and run it on yourself.

tell you what fat man you sound like someone i know, and i heard this before a few years back. are you the same man when comes on an earth that has been dug you walk away I will put any of my working dogs to stuff thats been dug before no prob, but i wont put a pup first time out to get roasted, would you.

I was always under the illusion that buzzards did not take live game, only carron.I know that they would frighten birds to death in a pen, flying into netting and such, but never knew they actually took them.Learn something new everyday.

yes fatman i have two 22 month old bitches that have seen a bit of game last season but were never dug, at present i have 386 earths on my satnav as i do a little survey work for the department, i will start back terrier work in sept. regardless of all others digging i will still get digs each day i go out. i still cant stop laughing at the last sentence in your post . If nothing else i put a smile on your face, lol good luck with your 2 bitches.

fatman your right its no one elses business, to be honest you remind me of a bricklayer i know years in the business and has not learned to lay a brick correctly , you talk here about the length of time your at the digging and you come on here letting young lads believe its ok to be digging in warm days summer months, distubing earths/ sets that rearing a family. i tell you this time of year its no wonder your not digging your young dogs, but your to blind to see why ! does vermin control not come into this? i cover alot of ground and am also a keeper.IF i didnt, other means would.. When do you start back then dealer, have you young stock to get goin, and as for young lads i dont ask anything of anyone,if someone wants to dig all year round thats up to them. Why wait till a few weeks time when everyone else is at it,then you risk puting a young dog in on something that has been dug already.
-
Stop end,the earth we done can be a piece of piss,2thirds of it would be less than 2ft,its the other bit thats the killer and its the 1st time in awhile weve had to dig it on that side.As for the dog we dug with, well we had full confidence in the dog as he is well experienced, hard to a point but not reckless. Some on here know the dog and know what he is capable of,and sorry i dont do pics, either on phone or with camera,as i have said on here before,i have no pics of any of my dogs past or present......Dealer whats your problem,we are just trying to get a few pups travelling ,weve had 2 digs ov

Contact the hunt and ask if you can tag along and maybe bring your terrier aswell.Get to know the terrier man for the hunt and try and help him out as much as he will allow and one day he may let you try your dog,but even the dog been tied outside an earth with another dog to ground is a learning phase for your pup,a lot more than you will learn out of any book or of here and you yourself will see 1st hand how a dig is done.

any pics mate Sorry no pics,we were f*****g soaked to the bone, the rain never let up. Mind the wettings Donie ye boys are getting a bit old for them. We wont melt liam, drop of rain never killed anyone, and the young dogs have to get a look before we kick off seriously. How is the bitch, wont be long now.

Good thread scent, pity there's always someone to spoil it.We were out today and had 2 young dogs and 1 4th season dog for back up.I went to an earth that can be real easy or very awkward. The 1st young bitch,a patterdale was collered up and entered but she showed a few times so we lifted her and tried the 2nd young bitch which is sealyhamxrussellxlakey. She entered and after about 15min we located her at around 7ft,not what we expected,we left her at it for a few more minutes and then started to dig, within 5min of diging she was out and she had been with it as she had some marks on her.We tied h

Not knocking you,but that has to be the understatement of the year,he ok but will never hunt again, lol and sorry to hear your dog got hurt, hope your young dog has a good season.

Swimming is another good tool for getting dogs into shape. When i kept the greyhounds if they had a slight injury and could not be galloped i would then swim them to keep them fit.
-
Well done stop end, that pup is shown great promise for the future, nice to see a white one doing the job.
-
Would the beddyxlakey not be inclined to go to ground,if its only as a bushing dog why not a springer or springerxbeagle or springerxterrier.

A lot depends on the size and make up of the pup in question.I had a dhxgh years back that was taking fox single handed at 9months and deer before he was year old,his litter brother went to england and he was doing the same, but as alan said its very easy to spoil a lurcher on fox ,my dog took its 1st fox while i was out mooching about. His mother was in the cover with terriers and the pup on the outside with me.The fox broke cover and the pup took chase, nothing i could do,but he done the buisness.I have seen big bullx pups sliped on fox and pay the price, not all dogs have the same drive.
