Back out tonight to the pool we were at this morn.I shot a mallard as he tried to leave when we were walking in and after that we shot 6 more up till dark,so a good opening day for my mate and i.
-
What type of shooting do you intend doing. For rough shooting the springer or cocker are hard to beat,i also use a lab for shooting but in saying that not all labs will take to beating cover, but are easier to handle than the spaniels.I use the springers on a driven shoot aswell as for my own use and you have to be on top of them the whole time when there's plenty of game about, but if you have the patience to train them there a great little gun dog.

Well lads how did the morning go for anyone at the ducks. We were out at 4.30 and at our chosen pond by 5.15.Things were very slow to start with ,but as the morn wore on it livened up and we came away with 9 mallard shot and 8 picked up.1 was dropped into a river and although the 2 labs worked hard to try and find it they failed, but a good morn, roll on this eve.Good shooting everyone, and most important, stay safe.

your wright mate My mates bitch has a very overshot bottom jaw,but it does not stop her working, very good bitch. She recently had a litter of pups,6weeks old now and all mouths perfect. 6 weeks still got milk teeth sometimes defects dont show till proper teeth come through but its not a problem to me good workers have never got bad mouths so dont let it worry you pal It dont worry me,not my bitch, lol and even if she were mine it would not bother me,im only into workers, not lookers.
-
Is that for me dogger,if so no,the sire was perfect and as far as i know so is all his line, its in the dams line the problem lies{if its a problem} but the pups are perfect in the mouth.

longest time youve had a dog to ground
fat man replied to old timer123's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Did you not try and dig the dog out on xmas day,why wait until boxing day, have you not 2 hands of your own,if you are not fit to dig it you should not have put the dog to ground in the 1st place, not having a go,jmho. -
Keep trying.there is a load of small little lakes about me all tucked away out of sight,so the foreigners dont know them and they are teaming with pike.I have actually seen the foreign lads out fishing on lene in them little blow up things no bigger than a bath, lol mad b*****ds,lene is no small lake and can get very rough at times very quick.I have finished fishing now as the digging has started, and i dont fish the pike, but we caught a hell of a lot of them this year.
-
1 caught last week just down the road from me in a small lake, weighed in at 36lb,he also had 2 more over the 20lb mark.A few weeks back while my mate and i were fishing lough lene an english angler caught a 27half pounder on the fly,he told us it was his 4th fish over 20lb in 2 days on the lake.My mate actually took a few photo's for him as he was fishing alone. We have caught a lot of small pike on lene while trolling for trout, the biggest been just under 14lb.

train my dog to go to ground

If you get the right type they enter as easy as any other terrier and may keep working a lot longer than most.- 25 replies

Only if there farm reared animals,or estate born and reared, otherwise there wild, how can anyone claim a wild deer belongs to them if they did not actually rear the animal in the 1st place, just because it happens to be on a shoot you stalk or farmland you do the stalking on,does not give anyone the right to say its there's.If cattle broke from 1 farm on to a neighbours, could he claim them as his own,no he could not,but in saying that leaving carcasas behind or killing for the fun of it is imo a disgrace.

could u explain that a little bit better for me i know wat ur trying to say but i dont see how he is in any more trouble than any other dog As snizle said, the physical size of the dog would make it more difficult for it to just smash in on quarry. Keeping in mind there are ALWAYS exceptions to any rule ( Fatmans dogs he spoke of) generally speaking a 8-10 pound dog that goes tooth to tooth with a big raccoon or even a big groundhog here is gonna spend a lot of time recuperating. On the other hand a SMART 8-10 pound dog that will spar and mix and take a grip when the time is right is inval

how small were they and what did they weigh mate.. Both were about 10inch and weight was about 10 maybe 11lb,the little black dog was mute and we never had to open a 2nd hole with him, always on top of his game. up here no offence fatman in the right earth with the right quarry i cant see something that weight not getting shifted around the earth im not saying ur lieing mate but educated quarry can shift the biggest dogs I know what your saying and no offence taken.Todd was an exceptional little dog,and i dug a lot of educated quarry with him and his offspring were just as hard. When

could u explain that a little bit better for me i know wat ur trying to say but i dont see how he is in any more trouble than any other dog the physical size of the animal. if there rock hard and dont have the body mass they dont last long. depends on the quarry being worked to. That little black dog i had was 8year old when he was robbed,as i said he never sounded and accounted for a lot of quarry, couple of here seen the dog work, both sides of the pool and any stuff that was bred of him worked the same.I know what your saying in size does matter, but some dogs {small dogs} will do t

I recomend that you dock them yourself and fcuk the vets.Thats whats wrong with this world, people are too easy influenced by attourity from goverments that have not got a clue about dogs or even care,so why should you care about them.Dont be a pussy,do it yourself and fcuk the law.

Some of the best terriers ive ever had were small and hard as iron. They could do a job where bigger dogs had failed then thieving scum wiped the whole lot out in a night.I remember 1 particular little lakey bitch i had,she was only a handfull but was a demon to ground, also a black dog todd that was gave to me by D Edwards from england,he was a great little worker, and hard with it,but you could put him in your pocket, lol.

Thanks for that mate.. Can they not be shot? Thats what i would have said, but im not sure on the laws on shooting them, then again they are doin harm.Has he tried a gas banger that the farmers use in the tillage fields, they can be set to fire fairly regulary, might work.

I use a varied degree of stuff, panacur, nilzan, and the pour on for cattle and sheep, but i use the zantal for pups whenever i have any, which is seldom, lol.
-
Drontal plus are good jimmy but there a rip of price.I go to a vetinary outlet and the chap behind the counter give me zantal plus instead at half the price and showed me the ingredients of both and there the same.I also used colovat as a booster when i had the ghounds and the same chap gave me a gallon of the exact same thing only different name for the same price as a 500ml bottle of colovat. The vets are a rip off.

Weve had a few digs to date and the ground is hard and dry.We had 1 tester a couple of weeks back and i was glad when we finially broke through to the dog.We try to get out good and early to avoid the heat.We are just geting young dogs goin at the moment,so its handy digs if possible.

out again last night with the pup. great result.
fat man replied to trigger2's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I would be more worried about the hardness of the ground this time of year than the age of the pup.A pup will run and chase anything whether it is out on the lamp or just out for a mooch. If he keeps it to good soft ground it should be ok,but twisting and turning on hard surface will damage the pups toes, joints, and so on,anyway his choice but well done pup. -
lovely looking dog that, was jus wondering does the glenn bark when there working Very hard to bark with their mouth full, lol.
