Woodcock-nice to see them back
fat man replied to tegater's topic in Driven, Walked Up, Rough Shooting
Was out saturday for a couple of hours, had the springer and 2 labs out, flushed 7 that i seen accounting for 3,i was in very heavy cover and shooting was hard to say the least,if my mate was with me we probably woulf have had a better day but i was alone, still a good couple of hours, missed a real easy cock pheasant, broke asnd flew a straight line right down in front of me and i never put a grain in him,lol sah well if you shot everything it would get boring. -
Some i have started early as in 12months but they were ready physicily and after a nice handy 1st dig bring them on slowly all the time making sure not to over match them and keep them wining,5-6 easy digs 1st season depending on age is enough for them. Both young dogs that we recently got bavck actually need holding back they are that keen and they will see only a handfull of digs this season.I started a young bitch last season and through different things happening she was dug to 12 times and some right good digs thrown in but she stood the test and is flyiong again this season with 9 digs ov

My mate was gifted a young dog a few weeks back by a friend of mine,14months old, nice strong dog,i know the breeding of it so it had the right stuff in it but wont mention that on here.We were out on sunday morn and the lurcher Snowy marked an easy place so i told Paddy to collar up the young dog.We entered him and he travelled on a few metres and then found and we dug him with a small vixon, ideal start for this youngster. We also had a dog returned to us by the General that i had gave him as a pup but through circumstances at the moment he had to rehome the dog and to his word the dog ame back

We had out 1st couple on friday morning, great to see them back in again, will give them another go on saturday. -
Best around would be Mcgahan down in killinleck Co Cavan, top class.

Was thinking the same myself SS ,im sure he had at least 1 lad that dug with him so why not just gift the dog instead of trying to sell it knowing it would be well treated and also see plenty of work but then some see only £££££ everytime they blink.
-
Thats exactly what i meant when earlier i said i wanted to hear from lads that actually knew and dug over the dog not i was told this and such and such said this,no offence but that is not the feed back i want to see,is there any lads on here that actually dug the dog,PM if prefered.

The dog is what 4 year old and the chap says he is 110% so if all is true then i would consider it a cheap dog as you are looking at about another 6 season at least unless something goes wrong so its not a lot to pay for 6 seasons sport.

Yeah he was on here but has not been on for a long time,i dont want to cause a slagging match over the dog just curious as to the way the dog worked so only lads that seen the dog work in the flesh not hearsay or 3rd party opinions.A mate of mine has a bitch directly down off the dog which he says is a good bitch and he bred her and there is 3 dogs working off her.My mate that digs with me has 2 young dogs off 2 of these dogs so thats why im interested in the way the dog and its siblings worked as the Dealer would be GGF to these pups. I never seen any of them dogs work but do remember the own

I have heard he was a very usefull dog in his day and a good producer of workers also,is there anyone on here that has dug over this dog or its off spring .I have seen the vid on youtube but it only shows pics of him and his line,i would like to hear how the dog worked as a mate has a couple of dogs with the dealer dog blood in them, honest opinions please.

f**k that, if I thought my dogs were in a place and I had to drive my van in their front door then I would. If the c**ts who had them didn't steal them then they bought stolen dogs, simple as that. Lads need to get a few things into their heads regarding stolen dogs. Terriers are usually stolen to sell. They get sold on as 100% workers. So if your terriers are rank curs they're still at risk of being stolen. And because you've bought a cur after being told it was 100% you'll sell it on again to get your money back. So now this stolen terrier is 3 owners away from the piece of shit who stol

The sickening thing is that someone is either giving info to these c**ts as to where the dogs are and what the set up is or they are involved in the theft themselves. There is too much of it going on now and a lot of it is down to the owners fault. We all like to see other lads dogs working and so on and invite lads for a days diging and half the time you have not a clue as to who or what they are, they could be any low life b*****d.1st you invite Joe Bloggs and he turns up with 2 mates who he introduces as tom and Jerry and they could be fine but they go home and they meet other lads and tell th

How are all the young 1st season terriers going for ye lads. The little bitch i started last season is going very well at present with 18 digs over her to date from when she started, very good dig to her on sunday morning where she had to push out real tight to get to her quarryand i mean tight, hardly get your fist up where the quarry had gone but she got there.we also had a good dig to a mates little bitch, her 3rd dig to date and she also done very well in a biggish place, only draw back was the f***ing blackthorns,we were destroyed, crawling around on hands and knees looking for a mark, lol.

I have had and seen a few of this type work and they done the buisness in saying that they were all a little on the big side but still had the heart to get where they wanted to get.The 1 i had myself was a very good diging dog and was seen by a few of here doing what it was bred for.The line itself is bound to throw big as you only have to look at its make up but only last summer i was speaking with a man who knows more about these white cork dogs than most on here and he told me that they were suitable for the ground that they work as some of the earths tubes are massive compared to other ear

Stopend for a man thats been shooting as long as you say you really f****d up by firing 7s at a fox but sometimes in the heat of the moment a lad will. The terrier was the 2nd f**k up but at least the fox was accounted for just incase it had taken grain and if you were in anyway in range it more than likely did but alls well that ends well,it didnt suffer a long lingering death. The 3rd f**k up was you trying to redeem yourself by saying something stupid like you did, your 1st post was honest but you f****d it all up by your 2nd post, but a happy ending, not for the fox but the dog got a nice retir

All going well at the minute and they geting plenty of diging, the young bitch is going very well with a few good digs to her so far this season, older bitchs have a lot of diging over them and are going well, mate has a couple of young dogs to start so we will consentrate on them when there ready, atb with the bitch, few handy digs will do her the world of good, build up her confidence.
-
How is the young bitch coming along Francie, have you had her out much since that good dig you had to he.

We had something simular happen last season. We had dug to my Barney dog and lifted him and released the quarry which went back to ground.we then tied Barney up to a fence post while we were back filling .My mate turned to get something and it was then he noticed that Barney was no longer on his chain,he had sliped his collar and was back to ground, luckily we had not taken of the locater collar and we had to dig him a 2nd time, you were lucky that both dogs did not connect or it could have been a disaster.I had a black dog years ago called RIP that would not tolerate another dog beside him let a

I agree, heard a lot of good stories about Frank Buck and the places he done, not my cup of tea mind.Lads say that a diging dog will do the same thing as these specially bred rock dogs but its no use if a terrier goes down 20ft in a rock crevice, kills his fox and then is stuck there because it has not the know how or ability to climb back up and out again.I have heard and been on a few very good digs dept wise but at least you can dig down to your dog eventually,in rock its a different story.

Good dig for a young bitch hope she continues to do the job for ya,atb for the season.
