  3. Id get some cut up now, having kitts and feeding kitts, can take a lot out of a jill,
  4. its not so much as what age you can tell the sex, but more a case of, when the jill is comfatable with you picking them up, mine lets me handle them now at 2 weeks, but hav'ent yet sexed them, pitindall, Ive got 4 that look "blue" like you say, thought they may be a new colour, lol, kay's gone and spoilt it now

    Help!

good on you for putting the link up pitindall, yup, Id say, she knows best, and your just have to accept that although alive at the mo, that one is going to die, my jill did extactly the same, but I now have 5 healthy kitts from her roughly 2 weeks old,
  6. Just feed plenty of what she already has basically as long as thats fresh meat, everyones has different views, but I tend to give and egg a week, and a small amount of milk
  7. you may actually be paying more for your "shop shite" as you call it, than you would for proffessionally made snares, as already stated, a few people on here, make and sell, I just brought 100, and I bet my good ones were cheaper than yours
  8. I'd say, only you know your ferrets, how are they together, as already stated, you would'ent know who's who, but Ive got 3 jills and 3 hobs all sharing a court with 12 kitts (few days old)
  9. it it under the skin, or attached the fur/skin outside?
  10. Id be a bit careful what you put in it, I know the manafactures want you to use there stuff, but would'ent want to be holding one of those if "something else" caught fire/blew up, also dos'ent it vapourise the mineral oil, dont think it would do that with old engine oil
  11. yes mate, foxy and vixen are my orignal two ferrets, both raised last years kitts together, on there own with no others in the court, just to clarifie to you all, Im not leaving the males in to "prove a point", I have the ferret court, and three large breeding cages, with preganant or nursing jills in, the court was supposed to be holding the castrated hob, snipped males, and 3 jills that I did'nt want to breed, just get out of season, but due to me putting the snipped hobs back in too soon, its resulted in this litter, I could I suppose have rushed out and made another large cage to ho
  12. you could just keep a close eye on her, my jill gave birth to a dead one last week, and left it in the shite corner, the next day birthed another live one, and the following day another single, by the third day she had five, and they are now all doing fine, I wont say, rush down the vets as Im not a lover of those guys, but be prepared for the worst
  13. I would say, a working line, you start with a jill, that is used by yourself, and is a good worker, come breeding season you pair her to another proven good working hob, now say she has 6 kitts, when they are old enough you take them all out on a few ferreting trips, were say that two of the six show themselves as good, the other four are sold on as pets, this gives you your starting block to getting your own line started, again the reason for keeping breeding records, keeping back only the best with the attributes that you want in your line, and using them in your future pairings

    FORUM

what you on about, nothings changed? you sure you aint hit a button by mistake?
  15. I class my workers as pets, but I can see what your getting at, I prefer a mixture of sizes, specialy with the hobs, bigger the better, have often found small jills cant make stubborn rabbits bolt, but stick a big hob down, and they are soon running, I feel the difference is not so much workers or pets, but how the keeper goes about it, Im a firm beliver in keeping breeding records, so that future matings can be made only using the best ferts, if records are not kept, a few years down the line and you'll have no idea who's being paired to who, resulting in non working type ferts
  16. it really depends on how your ferts are with you, I normally have a quick peek, after first putting a treat in the hutch, a egg or some fert malt paste, keeps the jills mind off what your doing, if she looks distressed at all though, and runs back to them, leave well alone
  17. noddy, may be an idea to post your location, as that may get you buisness nearer to home, in fact why not put all that in your signiture box, so it comes up at bottom of all your posts
  18. I'll move this post for you brian, as its the ferret section, questions about your lurcher, as best put up in the lurcher/running dog section
  19. welcome to the site mate hope you realise that quote; I just ordered a rat-trap so he should have a new playmate to practice on in the near future. that would be Illegal
  20. you wernt going home from brands hatch was you?
  21. well watching them today, the litter belongs to "foxy" yet her sister "vixen" is more the matenal one, vixen drags foxy into the box, then goes and gets "buster" castrated hob, 3 times her size and drags him into the box too,
  22. make sure the fence paint is non toxic, preferbly water based good job, but Id second the "it looks heavy" I have simular, and keep saying Im going to re make with thinner ply
  23. Dont worry Stubbs is having a min go for it while you can quick though before he comes back I'M BACK!!!!! some of us work nights
