hole hoping is'nt because they are young, its because they want to stay alive!! look on it from bunny's point of view, he can either bolt out into the open, where he's heard all the noise you lot have been making, smelt you etc, or he can bolt down another hole, that he knows is safe as stated, put a couple of stop nets within the longnetted area, and also purse net every 5th hole within the area, that way you can backnet them if they start hole hoping, also rabbits are more prone to sit tight in the burrows with young in the nest

oh come on, lets start yet another mass debate on genetics and silvers and stuff, seems like thats all the new members want to talk about, rather than hunting and rabbits  I mean, a quick search of other ferret forums, shows this is all thats being talked about
-
so lets see, this post was started, not concerning "silvers", but having a joke about one of magwitch's jill's turning a little nippy, it seemed, only on my post saying that they were silvers, did you leave your first post, which prompted other breeders/keepers with silvers to ask the question "why the remark had been made", so therefore starting the big silver debate it was me not you that is putting the pet and workers distinction into it, by saying pet owners are more likely to go for colours, than those of us that ferret and therefore just want a good worker, as you probably know,

I'm not knocking ferreters, I'm knocking those who breed without fully understanding the genetic basis of that breeding. So read my posts properly, stubby. That's got bugger all to do with hunting. For the record: silvers/DEWs have, within their genetic makeup, a 'lethal' gene. This gene is somerwhat variable, in other words it doesn't always exert an effect, and the effect it exerts can be variable, up to and including reabsorbtion of the foetus. The gene is basically recessive, needing a version from both the hob and the jill to have it's more harmful effects. This means tha

well, the new permission I have is a football pitch, so yup, the grass is kept short stubby, is it me or is it the way that the photo has been taken , it looks as if you have set the snare in between the beats, also there is a bad fault the way that the snare is set , pm, me and i,ll explain it to you , as stated above mate, it was pushed into the grass in the garden, purely for the picture, it aint finished yet

Don't tell everyone Steve ,I pretend I'm only 30,well , I am , x2 ,heard you had the famous Manky out the other day,Pat brought me up to date, roll on the Autumn eh? yeah, ferreter216's ferret "dent" started getting a complex, cause manky kept beating him up

ON THE HILL, dont see this as me critasising, as you put it, but posts like the one above are done, tongue in cheek, between longer standing members, who know each other (although Inan is very old)
-
i totally agree with you by the way if you cant look after the animal if complications happen due to lack of funds then dont breed the animal just get a vacetomised hopb its cheaper...anyway on to stubby you have a cheak to talk all you do is put people down and i think you should grow up....this comeing from a 23 year old!!! how is getting a snipped hob cheaper than going to a vets, if your getting your own hob down, that's £50 plus, or you have to hope someone near to where you live, has one they can loan out,so Im not saying, if they havent the funds, dont keep ferts, I'll agree on
-
can some some tell me the difference between hobbles and hoblets
stubby replied to jakk's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
vasectamised (snipped) hob, still has balls, gets jills out of season castrated hob, (hoblet) no balls, cant (although some will tell you it can) -
jojo, all your posts that Ive read so far, seem to be critasing, some of our members, are young lads or lasses that own ferrets, if you keep WORKING FERRETS, you dont need money coming out of your ears, the ferret catches what it eats, most aliments can be remedied at home, through posting questions on here, so, just because owners arn't rushing out to a vets, dos'ent mean they should'ent keep ferts, Id suggest you get down from your high horse, either offer good advice, or not, maybe even just stay on the pet ferret sites

so come and get those 3 sheets off me
-
great pics jules, or should I say fella
-
so just for the record, we "us bad lot that breed silvers" that have up to this date, not had any deformed/2 headed ferrets etc etc, know totally nothing about silvers you, that admit to owning a silver, yet would never dream of breeding from it, as this would go against your views, you views that I can only guess, come from another party, be it a book, the internet, or another keeper so your saying, that proves, your right, and were wrong,
-
No it isn't. That doesn't mean it's neccessary or desirable though. And if you must breed (rather than merely want to) then I suggest it makes sense to understand the full genetic implications of what you are doing. Something that magwitch demonsterably fails to do: her recent posts confirm that her knowledge of genetics is zero. no disrespect here droid, but your a newish member to the forum, slating some more experienced ferreters on their ferret keeping abilities and breeding seasons, and their sex (magwitch a she ) we seem to have an increasing amount of ferret keepe

after getting some snares from woodga, he kindly included his dvd with my order, I was going to try fence snaring, but after visiting my new permission, found it to be fence by the thick "park" type fence, which would make it quite hard, so decieded to use tealers on the runs, after watching the dvd a couple of times, and making a jig, am quite happy with the results, got the fence wire from B&Q's at £4 a roll, with made me 49 method 2 tealers cheers woodga, still got to add the line and pegs
-
no mate, think someone else made that comment, and as I didnt know if that was possible, i therefore could'ent disagree either
-
cant say we get more digs, but we do get less bolts, would have thought you'd be better off, uping the snaring
-
trouble is, denned, theres lots of new comers that use this forum/ferret, I think most established ferreters have at some time or another helped out newbies with some free pursenets, but we cant do it for everyone everytime, so this time, its all yours
-
only feed what the ferret/s can consume in one evening, its ok people that chuck a whole rabbit in, saying it will last three days in WINTER, but now is the season for flies, so my advice is cut the rabbit into portions, keeping frozen, but taken out the day before use to defrost, if your taking chunks out the next day, reduce the amount slightly
-
whats up with these people? whats your problem with breeding silvers? as stated as long as its not silver to silver, there's no problems, unless you know better, but leaving a without a reason behind the comment, don't give us much to comment on
-
from dropping the dead one, to the last of the five, was three days, but at the end of the day, you will have to do what you feel is right, Im a let nature take its course type bloke, Im not knocking vets, but to me, they are rip off merchants (round here anyway) if you feel she needs to get looked at then get her too one, asap saying that, alot of people, even though they would like the reasurance of a vets advice, just havent got the funds
-
do these farms have lots of cows on them?
-
no poison is dog friendly safe, it all does the same job, but it can be held in tamper proof boxes, your main worry would be secondary poisoning, from the dogs eating the mice, as already suggested, get some traps, either break back, or live catch
-
maybe it's in the "magwitch bloodline" because one of the silvers I got off you couple years back, does exactly the same, and her daughter too
