  1. Myxy hit where I am for the first time in years, although there are a few about. Just don't want to kill the last ones though. In the summer there was a really healthy population. I am seeing them very high up on the moor though amongst the hags, and I did wonder whether it was some built in survival instinct to move away from infected areas/populations.
  2. Not trying to insult your intelligence, but have you definatly adjusted the drum in the right direction.
  3. Cracking pics Greenshank, thanks for putting those up.
  4. Be nice to see the pics, I have tried to take some but never successfully. As it happened one dropped down of the hill, right over my house as I got in with the dog last night. Would have made a lovely shot with either camera or gun.
  5. +1 for Kenzie an absolute must read for any hunter Ifyou want a good fun read that's got to be "it'll be alright on the flight" the story of Vince Raw and his mates had me in stitches +1 for Kenzie
  6. Thanks Tegater, I'll seek em out! Sounds like we had slightly similar childhoods - I think I was semi-feral as a kid! Just wasted a couple of minutes looking for your 'like' button, but you're a mod now and apparently no-one 'likes' mods Tell me about it, I have never been so popular
  7. Dunc. If you enjoyed "the amateur poacher" then try "The Gamekeeper at home" by the same author, you will love it! If you are really still a boy at heart, and have adventure running through your veins, then read "Bevis, the story of a boy" also by Richard Jeffries. It is a little bit swallows and amazons, but much better, and for me each time I read it, I am living the dream and reflecting on my own childhood, which was in so many ways, similar.
  8. He cant, but I am talking about me shooting both rifles side by side, one after the other! Similar effect when I shoot heavy fluted 20" .308, against 24" lighter barrel. You have a strange effect on rifles, I have never seen this before on 1 for 1 shots, I can buy it if you were down a range and blasting away but I'm stumped as to how you are doing this "Field" shooting? Ammo maybe? If you are ever down my way bring some tools and I'll see how my HMR and .308 stack up against them! Many different reasons I expect, different rifling, different cleaning regimes,
  9. Looks a lovely shoot Jai, and I enjoyed reading the report. Thanks.
  10. Welcome to the forum pal, some very interesting folk to talk to on here.

  12. Me thinks your mate can't shoot too well! He cant, but I am talking about me shooting both rifles side by side, one after the other! Similar effect when I shoot heavy fluted 20" .308, against 24" lighter barrel.
  13. Just for your info, if it ever happened again, drill a hole through the wood, at the extreme tip of the crack, which in effect, cuts the crack and prevents it growing. You can then glue and clamp if not too big.
  14. The shorter barrel on the 16" varmint is both thicker and heavier, which means a stiffer barrel and more consistent harmonics. I have the 16" and when I shoot against mates 20/21" it is definatly more accurate, but noticeable more at distance. The m/v of mine is 2477 as against hornady's quoted 2550.
  15. You have probably seen it yourself Deker, but there is loads on the interweb, about the two, and some opinions say that the only difference is that Hungary only make fixed power ones, whilst the clever little german engineers make the vari power models. Make your own mind up This may explain, why I have never shot a german 8x56!
  16. Welcome. PM people by hitting the messenger button at the top of your screen. Ian B is the administrater contact him by PM or any other mod if it is a general query.
  17. I have used the 3-12x50 PM11 for years, and also used a 8x56 hungarian for some time on a foxing rifle. The two dont compare in my opinion, and the German models outshine in build quality and glass. In my opinion Having said that, I like to adjust for deflection and elevation and the german drums are class! I have also used the 5-25x and again it is outstanding quality. To answer your question, I dont know what the technical difference is, but get hands on with them them both, and I know which one you will prefer. That is not to say though, that the hungarian one are not OK. I also
  18. Nice contrast Nige with the blacks greys and whites
  19. its the dogs bollocks for me mate I'm well glad I picked it over the wild cat . I think people are put of because you can't open it up to clean it but if you look after it and and spray it with wd40 like it says to do then I can't see a problem Wild cat way tooooo big!!
