    Take them out. I took 2 of my young jills out yesterday, as you might have seen on another post, they loved it and bolted plenty, either accidentally or with intent!

    Thanks. I made all the dayglo nets, and the red poke nets, but the blue and green ones I bought from Bridport a few years ago. All netmaking gear bought from "Agouti"

    Nothing unusual about this I am sure, but went out today, with a couple of this years Jills, plus one from last year. The permission is packed with rabbits, and is ideal for starting them off on. Took 40 nets with me, but could have done with 60 on the big warren. Also took me own kits Harry aged 10 and Jack aged 7!! Started off a little slow, and I think they were a little unsure, but they soon got into action after a short lunch break. All the little things like working their way through the nets for the first time properly, all fell into place, with a couple of times their collars g

    Not a bad shout that, as on rifles fitted with a muzzle brake, and I don't know many that use one in the civvy market, then crown/muzzle wear wouldnt be a problem. As Deker says though, they don't clean as efficiently as a rod.

    Took young ones out 2 days ago, and will be taking them out again tomorrow with the older ferrets. Introduce them slowly and start off with burries that have just been cleared by an old one, then get them to hunt in a fresh bury with an old one. IMO that works well for me, and thats how I've always done it.

    I love my .17hmr, but .22 is the way to go when you have that many rabbits to go at! It would take me a few weeks to get that many around here. Well done and good to see the pics.

    I'll try and get some other pics up of some little traps I've made, but this was one of a little feller in a see saw trap. LOL. Usually get loads of these or weasels!

    A good start. How long does it take you to make one, would you say, in hours? Is the mesh expensive and where have you found the best place to buy? I've only made small animal traps, like rabbit box and drop traps, see saw traps, and larsens/letterbox traps.

    Its simple really........................................ Its nothing to do with "appeal or anything else" its simply to kill vermin that need killing. Traps work 24/7. It isn't a sport, its a means to an end. Which may then give you some sport, or allow you to make an honest living, because your livestock comes to no harm. Its always a good feeling though when you approach your trap, and you have caught your target prey. Same priciple with live trapping, but this allows you to do different things with the prisoner! i.e. release, kill, keep fresh etc

    I've always used straw, I was told years ago, that hay harbours mites/ticks etc. I don't know whether there is any truth in this. I quite like the old clothes idea, if I run out of straw. Shredded paper is another good one but I find it hard to get hold of, because I dont have a shredder.

    Markha. I have no knowledge of the technical aspects of metal. However A.I's advice in their barrel cleaning literature is "the use of a boresnake is NOT recommended" because it can wear the muzzle/crown. Exceptions being on ops, if sand etc needs removing, where the use of a cleaning rod is not practical until return to base. Now if a company like that issue that advice, then I am guessing that there must be some justification for doing so. I have no doubt this will just come down to personal preference!

    Bankzi. The other thing you can do, is to test it, without firing a shot. Put your rifle in a rest / on sandbags etc, and chock it so that it wont move. (you will need to set it up so that the cross hair is fixed on a small aiming mark, and your mag set at 5x. (using your example) Once the rifle is chocked and on aim, and without moving the rifle, zoom in and you should find that the cross hair stays on the initial point of aim. (this means magnification zoom will not alter your POI) If it doesn't then it will at least, highlight to you that there is an error in the scope and your POI will

    Correct. Which is why FFP scopes are better when using mil dot reticles or similar for holdover/holdoff. However I realise this is a different subject to the one being asked.

    In theory nothing at all should change, but it does depend upon the quality of the scope. It always used to be good advice to zero on maximum magnification, as in most circumstances this is what you would shoot on. The reason being that poorer quality scopes, could not guarantee that the POI wouldn't change. Decent quality scope will not change the POI at any magnification, but the only way to know for sure, is to test it.

    Spot on Deker! When the shooter understands what goes on inside the barrel, then the cleaning becomes obvious, if you want consistency.
