It's not always the rare birds mate, I like watching the gold and green finches on the feeders..... My lad says he wants a pet blue tit cause they're his favourite lol Blue tit's lovely little creatures use to protect two nest boxes on a golf course every year from the usual vermin, got some good photos of the chicks too I also have a picture of a just-out-of-the-nest wild parrot here sat on the mrs's foot for no reason other than it wanted too I watched a Greater Spotted Woodpecker raise its young from start to finish when I was 14 or so, it had nested in a tree behind my house on the

The marshes and mud flats of the Exe Estuary are full of wading birds, ducks etc all sorts migrate to it and its now a protected area, it is an area of importance for the Avocets, also ospreys ( never been fortunate enough to see one myself)... But spent a lot of time years ago sat in the hide on the back beach watching the huge flocks of wading birds. I like it that my lad has the interests too, all is not lost lol... Have any of you avid twitchers been down to this area?

It's the egrets round here that's exploded Johnny there are at least twice as many egrets as herons now, yet 20 years ago I don't remember seeing them..

When we were working in Bracknell we saw Red Kites everyday.... I never got tired of it though ( we were there 6 months) Another one that gets me is the flocks of parakeets in Surrey, where my uncle lives in Molsey there's loads of them, funny seeing parrots flying about... Followed a barn owl up a country lane in Cornwall one evening, my missus and kids in the van with me they all loved that one.... If you keep your eyes open in your walks it's amazing what you'll see... My lads 7 he's got a couple of bird books and a diary, which he fills in every time he sees a bird he hasn't seen

Good day mate...well done.

Peregrines are one of my faves too, saw eagles in Crete, done a safari years ago spent as much time watching the birds as anything.... Secretary birds and a Marshall eagle being the stand outs for me.. Spent a lot of time twitching as a youngster, especially over the mud flats on the Exe... Avocet and short eared owls being a couple of favourites....

Had a go on live eels today in the Teingn Estuary, managed one about 2lb and bumped one, bloke beside me had one but that was it out of about 6 of us... Speaking to a lad early who was fishing the sea wall ( I fish the estuary side) he had caught a few over the last few days on crab.. The end of this week should be better, once these easterlies bugger off..
-
Only met a few off of here, and had a few good days out with them... Looking forward to the fishing comp, to meet a few more, plus a couple coming down next season for a run...
-
Good result Gaz, seems they'll try anything these days to make a case...
-
Good luck tomorrow mate I'm gonna have a go myself on Sunday early, gonna try a bit of live eeling in the estuary, hopefully this warm weather have finally got them moving...
-
Friends of mine do a trade stand there Bry ( united Roofing Products), god knows what it costs them... Been to the Devon County Show a few times, but that's got too expensive now, your looking at over 100 quid day with the kids ( fck that) You know for next year to go bassing mate.... I'm out Sunday morning, live eeling in the estuary I'll let you know how it goes Cheers Kev

Here's my 3/4 whip 1/4 beddy ( litter sister to troter's dog). She's 19", quick off the mark, turns on a six pence, good around the ferrets and lamping rabbits she picks up a fair few rabbits. She's not a good retriever and I think a couple more inches would have helped. She was brought to give my young lad a start, he's 7 and she's ideal. A couple of pics of my brothers 1st x, she's very driven, will hit anything full tilt.. not as quick as the 3/4 and doesn't turn as well she's very headstrong and needs to be kept on top of. Good fun dog to be around.... i'd say she's around 20

I'm the same 2 nests but on the good side, two Bumble holes too (is there a name for 'em?) Bum holes ????????
-
I think everything is a bit late this year, there was freezing easterly winds only a few weeks back, the suns out now though so hopefully summer is here...
-
I'd agree mate, you need 2 good wide men that can beat a man, we've got Gerrard and Wilshere to come back, but Walcott and Milner aren't good enough out wide ( Walcott should be a world beater with his pace, but he's scared to take on his man regularly) chamberlain looks a good player, and should be encouraged to run at players and commit, don't stifle his talent... Lets see how Zaha develops, and that winger for Wigan ( mcmanamhon I think) tore Man City to pieces.... I don't like 1 up front but played right with pacy players it can easily be 3 up front...

I don't follow Scotland mate so I don't care about them. There is a difference between wanting to win and knowing you'll win. Just listen to the commentary and remember its getting beamed everywhere. Fair enough mate, I wouldn't say the commentary are a basis for the general fan... England fans are realistic but still passionate, we want to win like anyone...apart from you who doesn't care about your national side anyway lol
-
I suppose it'd be better to be defeatist about everything and never hope for the best... At least that way you can't be accused of being arrogant, big headed, deluded etc...... Can't see how fans that constantly say there own side is crap can be considered passionate.. Surely that's a contradiction in terms... Wether playing or watching you should expect to win, then when you lose feel gutted... That's passion... Not sing as loud as you can, all the time expecting to lose lol...
-
You'll find most England fans want the other home nations and Ireland to do well ( as long as its not against England).... You'll find all Scotsman want Engkand to fail no matter what lol England fans expect too much at every tournament admittedly......is that passion or big headedness......
