Well I was up very early to get out for a shoot on a couple of my permissions. The 1st stop was at the young farmers farm to do my usual clearing of crows and anyhting opportunist that comes my way. It was a very cold day with a keen breeze blowing and after sat hidden for ages with my flask and a choccy bar I decided enough was enough and headed back to the warmth of the car heater A short drive up snowed up and slippy back roads (new snow tyres are a godsend) to the big Dads farm with the intention of getting a pheasant or two. I had a walk round all the normal holding areas, iclu

Had my SGC interview yesterday

Also, Gun dealers are gun dealers, gunsmiths are gunsmiths and there may be a lot of similarities between them, or they may be worlds apart.... not all gun dealers know a lot about gun fit, even if they have been in the game a long time, they sell guns and they will sell you one if you want one, or may even steer you towards something they want to sell Gunsmiths may be a bit more discerning and may well have the fit of the gun as the top priority when thinking of selling you something. You have to be carefull, as at the end of the day even if you get sold something that isnt quiet the -

Dan, you need to decide if its purely going to be clays that you shoot at, or if you are more inclined towards the sporting sid eof shooting and going for game shoots. This may either steer you towards a longer barrel for clays or perhaps a bit shorter for a game gun. The main thing is not how much you spend or the make of a gun, more importantly how the gun fits you. You can spend thousands on a status symbol and shoot like poorly because the gun doesnt fit. I was in the same boat as you a few weeks back when looking for my 1st SG. I realy did want to buy a cheap gun for f -
How old is it? What is the serial number. Does it have the words WD scrolled on the side plates? What is the length of pull please. Sorry for all the questions, just trying to narrow down what gun its is as my GF is after a new gun. Cheers Mark Edit: Just found out they were made by Silma in Italy and imported in to the UK by Diamond Shooting Services in Essex from the late 1980's onwards.

If you ring the RFD thats selling the silencer they will happily send to your local RFD, you can then just pick it up from Uttings. Edit: get a Twink mk2 form Davey on this site, if Calsberg made silencers..... Daveyt63

Nice one Bill, I think I must get round to trying one of those out, seems to be a very well thought of piece of kit. Enjoy Mark

The best thing to do is to try and find someone who has a springer and someone who has a PCP, then try them out. best place to start would be your local rifle/air rifle club/range, Just be cheeky and ask someone at the range about their gun. Most of us are a happy bunch and always willing to help. I have an old BSA Meteor springer, my 1st gun, and sold my HK80 springer and replaced it with an Air Arms s410 carbine pcp rifle which I realy enjoy shooting. ATB Mark

Derren, get a copy of chairgun pro from here clicky Then all you need to do is enter your pellet weight, your guns true ftlbs, you may need a chrono for that, plus you need to measure how high the centre of your scope is above the centre of the rifle barrel. Once you enter all those details Chairgun can then work out all you need to know for each given zero range, you can even print off range cards that remind you what milldots to use at given ranges.

Ah thanks lads, Phantom, this new permission has no restrictions on me bringin shooting buddies The guy just wants lots of birds shooting, he even moaned that the hundreds of Starlings sitting on his new shed and his phone lines were too noisy (they are mate there's hundreds of them) and can I kill them all!!!! So If you want a trip up here you, and any of the other lads are welcome to join me on this permission
-
I guess as well that you thought your rifle was underpowered because you could see the pellet dropping away drastically in your lamp light? Dont worry about this, we pretty much all see the pellet at night as the skirt catches the lamp light and especially with .22 calibre it looks like the pellet could never punch through a paper bag! Try setting your zero at 35yds and getting some practice on paper targets at that range and also closer. Visit the land you go lamping in, in daylight, then you can work out some accurate distances between objects ie from the gate where you enter to the

Well I got another new permission a couple of weeks ago, basically farmers son has second bigger farm and farmer sent me down to the other farm last week to sort out crows ripping the bales open, plus pigeons, wabbits and foxes that are all not welcome on this land, oh and plenty of stray pheasants. Had a chat with young farmer, to find out boundaries etc 350 acres So I went for a proper wander round today with air rifle and shotgun to suss out the lie of the land. Well it was pretty cold and there are a few places to hide up, but on the whole the crows were well out in the middle of

Permission Required for experienced gun
markha replied to Peter9xx's topic in Pigeon Shooting & Decoying
Completely agree Stubbs, plus if the guy had thousands of acres and ran his own shoot, he should therefor know a few people to ask.
