  1. Shape, shine, shadow, sillhouette, seizmic, absence of the normal, presence of the abnormal, all that stuff. If your open field has hedge boundaries, why not just move slowly round them as the warrens may be in the hedges? I have loads of places that I shoot at like that, just open fields, I just stalk round the edges, walk very slow, stop when I see a pair of ears, crouch and sight up in one movement, then decide if its a shot, or I need to get closer. As Simon says, 'wind in yer face bud' if at all possible. Its always that 'sentry' rabbit that needs extra special attention Hav
  2. No, you range it by how many of the markers, a b c d, that are filled, so if the rabbits 3" ears fill the line in the reticle marked 'A' then the rabbit is at 50yds. If the rabbits ears fill A & B then the rabbit is 25yds away. Rabbits ears fill A,B & C then its only 16yds away. If the little fellas ears fill A,B & and half of the next graduation you divide 50yds by 2.5 (which is how many graduations are covered by the ears) so 50/2.5 =20yds So if the bunnies ears only covered half of the space between the A marker, you divide 50 by .5 or half and that gives you 100
  3. Your welcome Martyn, As you can see from Matt & Twotwothree post, and you will get many others who also have different experiences regarding size of land from their issuing police force. All forces want to see safe lines of fire and good backstops, or artificial ways of creating backstops, like Matt using high chairs, so effectively any misses/overpenetrations will just hit the ground. Some forces however take more consideration in to the retained energy of centrefire calibres and make up there own rules as they go along! There was a recent posting on THL from a guy who had just had
  4. Just read some of your older posts, so can see your quiet new. You need to think logically about the types and calibres you are asking for, i had a good chat with my FEO. What you have to weigh up is calibre and range of calibre. For me FAC air would be a waste of a slot as Air rifle can clear the rabbits up to say 50yds, then if I need a bit extra I can go for the 22lr. For fields where the quarry is at longer distances the 17hmr comes in to its own. I know that for some, FAC air may be all they can get cleared for, however if your land is suitable go for a 22lr and then the longer
  5. I have seen some run very fast, but never faster than the speed of a 12g load Ok seriously I havent got a clue, but they seem to be a bit faster than 112mph? edit: why? did you get overtaken in one while you were blatting about in your lowered saxo? edit: sorry if you really have got a citroen saxo mate
  6. Not far wrong at all Or another way of thinking: If your rabbits ears fill 2 of the marks divide 50 yards by 2 and get 25yds, however, if it fills 3 of the markers you divide 50 by 3 to 16yds. So just divide 50 by how many marks it covers, if its in D then thats 4 markers or 12yds. Dont forget the zoom must be set at x6 for the sr6 reticle and x12 for sr12 reticle, anything other than this will give you the wrong distances.
  7. Local, I know what you mean about the musky smell, we can smell them from miles away in the mountains
  8. Right all, price drop so that its very competitive price against whats on the net. You can get the mde valve charging kits from Balckpool rifles from £45 to £50. it doesnt matter what type you get, ie DIN or A clamp as my tank has a screw out ( with allen key) insert that changes it to a DIN fitting. So Ill drop the price of the tank to £120 collected and you could have a brand new 12.2lt charging setup for £170.
  9. LED Lenser P7 gunlight kit - long battery life, long range, adjustable zoom from flood to thin spot beam, happy days
  10. Very nice logical thinking Si I think you took a shot at the 'bad boy' in the tree - But......missed, It was seriously windy yesterday.
  11. Thing is, we have that many astute farmers up here, that play at being dumb, but are all very bright, you could well get away with that phone call!
  12. Perhaps a call to those in charge may see you offered work in the next cull???? See the last paragraph. http://www.dailypost.co.uk/news/north-wales-news/tm_headline=38-animals-shot-as-council-tackles--nuisance-&method=full&objectid=18090923&siteid=50142-name_page.html
  13. Rob give Peter Childs a ring, he is your FEO? Im sure he can give you the definitive answer on behalf of NWP. As others have said, trying to get the goat condition on your license for culling goats in the national park, as thats where most of them are, Beddgelert and some in Llanberis, the odd group outside Bethesda, will be difficult as the culling is either done by Forestry Commission shooters or local qualified pest control companies. All the best with it though mate. Iawn wah, Diolch
  14. Go to a shop that has a good choice of rifles for you to shoulder, buy one that feels comfortable and fits as well as it can. There are a lot of people on here that shoot CZ, so maybe that tells you something Scope wise something with a good high powered zoom, Hawke, Bushnel, I dont know much about the Redfield scopes.
  15. This thread has had me read things three times, then had me chuckling quietly to myself At the end of the day there are 2 guys on this thread who have the following attributes: They are/were professional soldiers one is currently serving and trust me, if you knew just a little bit about the courses and qualifications he holds regarding ballistics, you would just take his word. The other is an ex UK forces sniper, I think we can all guess how well he knows his craft. Its always a great subject, calibre, pellet deformation, over penetration. Its not what you have got, its w

  18. Mine was the same, dropped off in power as well after the initial run in. Im sure that trading standards would be interested in all the air rifle companies stating 'full power' 12ftlbs etc when actually they are too damn scared to make them at or close to the legal limit as they dont want to be the 1st to be part of a test case when someone gets caught with a factory rifle over the limit, when it has been loaded with the legal term of " Any projectile for testing". I too decided to void my warranty and Im happy with 11.7ftlbs.
  19. Well your probably going to be zeroing around the 100yds mark and even at 170yds your only going to be holding over 1 mildot, so if its accurate head shots so you can still eat the meat you want a high mag zoom. Plenty about from the usual brands and these days they are all rated for recoil on big calibres, so minimal recoil form 177HMR isnt going to be a problem. What scope are you using at the moment?
  20. Good luck with the business, can you get 'all' the TWN film patterns?
  21. Nice write up Simon, and a nice bit of woods to wonder round.
