Air rifle, 45 metre, 5 shot group, shooting competition
markha replied to zini's topic in Airgun Hunting
Hi Zini, great idea, other questions: benchrest forestock only - ie bipod, beanbag etc - No rigid gun rest used ,like those some of the target chaps use which is effectively a vice! Obviously the video should be Unedited from the start of zero at 32m/35yd through to the finished group at 45m - i mention this because not everyone will have a scope cam, and therefor be unable to show the hold over on the reticule, hence confirming the initial zero range. I think that entrants should post their best group only to keep the thread clutterfree and save the websites bandwidth. And -

Years ago I used to do a lot of piking, on the cut I always found dead baiting by locks was a sure bet as the fish get drawn to the slightly moving water leaking through the gates. Used to fish the cut thats runs by Bluebell lakes and this was the same, great for pike, superb either on the float or sink and draw

There are plenty of DIY kits about, they are all pretty good at what they do, which is mainly for touch ups and small areas. They are all chemical kits, either with liquid or with gels that you leave on. For a hot dip blue job this envolves getting your metal work very very hot, then putting into an oil bath, remeber how you used to do it in metal work at school? same thing. Im sure there are a few people on here that have home made oil dips and blow torches, I persoanlly have touched up bits of blueing the old school way: heat metal with blow lamp then smear 3-in-1 oil over it, th

Thanks for that Akton, FEO was quiet specific - some kind of bolt, with an eye, or u-bolt that goes through the cabinet, through which a chain or cable can be threaded and then locking the rifles inside the gun safe. Thanks for the thought though.

Hi all, So shotgun licenses on way for me and my girl, however Im applying for FAC also, FEO says she cant have access to the 5 gun safe with no FAC, However he would be happy for me to keep firearms in same safe as shotguns if I were to put some kind of bolt fixing in the gun cabinet that a steel cable can be attached to and hence securing a firearms from being removed by my partner, obvioulsy I could just buy another gunsafe. So has anyone done this and if so what did you use for the fixing and what type of drill bits did you get through trying to drill the gun cabinet. Cheers Mark

Cal BASC and speak to Mike, he will go off his nut when you mention 'mentoring' as its a very contentious issue at the moment!

Need to do some mentored fox shoots for FAC
markha replied to markha's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Nope, If I applied for rimfire - no problem, but he suggested some experience with 223 shooting foxes before putting in application, now I know this is not what the law states, believe me, and a back stop is a back stop, if you can see dirt behind your quarry you have a backstop of sorts, I do agree that the bigger the calibre the more efficient the back stop should be. I dont want to get in to a debate about mentoring conditions that some forces are putting on FAC, the safety of different calibre etc etc as I am fully aware of these things. Im just after the help of some landowners/shoot -
Hi All, I have been informed by my FEO that he will happily put a positive note against an application from me for .22 and 17hmr, However if I want CF for fox , 223, then he suggested that before I put in the application that I get out with a few people and get some foxing done. He would then ring up the 'mentors' for their opinion as to my safety/skills etc and, again would be happy to put that calibre in the application in a positive note. I do have a few friends who shoot CF etc but I am looking for some more people who would be happy to help me out when on shoots using CF. Im in B

North Wales Police will not allow 17hmr for fox and I agree entirely with that. 223 is way to go.

Well done indeed, a cheeky and wiley fox who has used all his instincts to outrun you, and now has met his match.SP buddy

Hey Davey, Si - Are you two on commission or what!

Cheers lads, Im still building a list of permissions before putting the application in, I do have the FEO coming in the morning for SG application for me and my missus and Ill plug him him for info before putting the FAC application in. I went for a walk round the new permission this afternoon, didnt cover all of it just the first couple of big fields. I didnt see a thing on the ground, but did spook a large 'something' in the rushes, took it by surprise and boy did it bolt fast, I just saw this big thing bounding away and at first thought it was a dog it was so big and quick!, I found the

As everyone who has got one says " these are very very quiet" Its only been today that I have managed to get out and see what the diferecne a Twink silencer makes - the only thing you hear on the aa s410 is the twang from the hammer, and if your more than a couple of metres away the rapport is negligable. Everyone should get one

L1A1 Bill? IM sure that they get spooked/canm see IR, a few weeks back I was pinging a rabbit with a laser range finder, not in the visible spectrum for human eyes, however as it was a long way off I must have pressed the laser button quiet a fe times, aimed just in front and just behind, so I could get an average of the distance as I was a bit shaky in the hands, Anyhow, the rabbit was definately spooked by it and did a quick step in to the hedge, Im convinced they can see in the IR range of my rab=nge finder....

Good stuff mate on the shooting comp', Did some stuff at manjarca ranges pre deployment ops for hertzi in late very late 90's. Theres plenty of work as AT instructors all over UK if you can get training credits for career change, get on to jsml scheme, climb, kayak, mountain bike, ski in Norway every year, get a good posting at tri services at HMS Indefatiguable, Anglesey, or even Llanrwst, Capel is OK - but its RA and you know what a bunch of money pinching tsrs they are , Scotland even better. Plus you get to work with the lads on decompression as they come through, give them a helping -
Hi All, Im happy to have a new permission, Ill get some pics up next week once I have been for a mooch around. 65 acres with permission for day and night, air rifle, shotty plus rimmy and centrefire. Rabbits, crows, pigeons, pheasant - yup if they are on his land I have permssion to bag them, plus fox. A great farmer happy for written permission for the FAC application. Chuffed. Ill pop over there next week and see what the lie of the land is etc and get some pics up. Cheers Mark

Nice one Darryl. You guys are very lucky that your 'pests' come in at close ranges, my main permission has very twitchy bunnies and lots of runs for them to pop in to and out to another dimension! they are like 'Sliders' lads Ill tell you. They have bionic vision and hearing, plus the ground is very sandy, Im sure they can hear the lightest footsteps - Si -shape shine shadow sillhouete - seizmic its only the real small kits that get close kills, the rest of the time its proper long range stuff. So Im always zerod at 49yards as that way I can get the most use out of the mildots out to
