  1. One added point - a stock broken dog that has never seen a lamb isn't necessarily 100% broken to lambs. If that makes sense? Because they move different, are smaller and make wierd sounds (to a dog).
  2. But how many folk look back and realize that the dogs they had as young uns were a lot better than they realized at the time and were some of the best they ever had? Also for me it's not a linear line in terms of quarry size or difficulty, i think i get a different but equal pleasure from all kinds of quarry taken in all kinds of ways.
  3. It's bollocks mate - imagine the way they got the figures for that? They probably did it through pet food sales, which immediately eliminates those who flesh feed from ever being asked. I'd say pet ferrets in this country are 'relatively' rare in comparison to say the U.S.A. Whereas workers are probably more commonly found here than any other country.
  4. Since the ban, lamping foxes became 'cool' Didn't you get the memo?
  5. Don't think the ban comes into it that much. It was same before. A man who's lurcher takes/took fox/deer would think his dog a better dog than the dog who only took rabbits. Like with terriers - folk who work below ground consider their animals, themselves and their form of hunting to be superior to those who just hunt rats/rabbits above ground. I think the thing is - either way, you shouldnt be worrying what the other mans dogs are doing, but just be content being out doing a bit.
  6. I'm a loner and the solitude, being a lone in nature, just you and the animals is a big part of why i hunt. It keeps me sane. So mostly a lone, but through here i have met a couple of decent folk, one of which i go out with every sunday and the odd nights lamping through the week, and i do enjoy the company on those outings.
  7. All rounder should learn - sit, stay, fetch, go, come, make a cuppa, get the beers in, f**k off, cook dinner, do the dishes and can i have a loan? the average lurcher will probably survive with sit (stay), come and fetch (go find).
  8. Another one to the pup!!!!!!!!

  9. If you have never trained a spaniel or are new to dogs i would not recommend a cocker as they are mental and very hard work and do not calm down untill they are about 3.
  10. your on a role tonight mate what dog do you use just a idea ye see on what im looking at Currently go out with a whippet and a collie x grey. Beddy x whips are also very handy if bred right.
  11. Try going down first light and you might find a few feeding that run into those holes. Failing that go down with a lamp and put it on them and see where they run.
  12. Some kind of small lurcher / whippet - exact breed is unimportant just go for what you like and then look for a well reared litter out of parents doing exactly what you want. The litter you pick is more important than the breed in my opinion.
  13. Too fecking right, Brother... But, on Motorway and Rail Track jobs,.it is the only safe way,. BUT,.it makes for a LONG, BORING day....
  14. Those are stop over burrows maybe and the big ones are else where. Rabbits just use them to hide when spooked etc. Also son probably shoots the easiest bits.
  15. Sorry to hear about the wee fella. Vets are a f*****g joke.
  16. I started my hunting life when i was in my mums belly. She was out until 8 month pregnant. Soon after i was born and all safe to go out i was strapped into a sling and went along like that. KIlled my first rabbit under 10, carried dead game, ate it, never ever once thought about it or questioned it until i was older and folk pointed out it wasn't normal - not that i cared by then! I suppose it's all down to the individual kid. One funny thing tho - there are very very very few pics of just me when i was a little kid, but there are tons of me in the background of photos of dogs! So you can se

  18. Cheers everyone! It was a good couple of hours, couldn't really have gone better
  19. I hate stupid people. And i REALLY hate stupid people in positions of authority.
  20. Is that the kid or the pup? The kid is a convert, never touched a ferret before today or seen a running dog. The pup is coming a long great, he's a little f****r and very hard headed, but at 9 month he's doing well enough for me, and i think with time will make a solid ferreting partner
  21. We've had some nice weather recently, clear skys, sunshine but still cold, so with the days getting a bit longer i've been out most days after work doing a bit and on my days off. As a result i've taken the pup and ferrets out nearly everyday this week and taken some decent bags here and there. Anyway, with the usual dawn till dusk trip planned for tomorrow with johnnyboy68 and our young (13) apprentice 'Young Tom' i decided today would be a day of rest - check over all the animals, relax and definitely no ferreting! The gods however had other plans. After waking the dogs and having a cup
