  1. If you want more interest in the comp, put it pinned in the general section, that way you will get other folk entering than just the air rifle lads. And the voting will be fairer, as this section is quite 'tight knit'.
  2. Doesn't really seem to stop them bolting, but make sure you trust yourself or the person shooting 100%, no shooting too close to the holes, no shooting through the hedge etc, only taking shots at the rabbits that break into the open, and have nothing behind them. It's a very easy way to have an accident in all the excitment.
  3. because daytime dogs are required to less runs for longer, whereas lamping dogs are required to do more runs for less time. so with lamping dogs i like to do sought of interval training, whereas daytime dogs i focus more on endurance training Fair point matey, i would have thought though, that endurance training would also benefit a lamping dog, for long nights? And interval training cannot harm a daytime dog. As the man said though - just do both for your 'all rounder'.
  4. I don't stalk, but would agree that it would be nice to actually read about peoples hunting rather than private arguments.
  5. Do you fancy explaining why an 'allrounder' will require different conditioning and fitness than a lamping or daytime dog?
  6. So, decided as it was September 1st yesterday i should go out for my usual wander with the dog and ferret , but maybe put a wee bit more effort in, even if it was only for a few hours. Walked down the lane at the back of the house through the woods, and could hear a woo woo woo woo, getting steadily louder, just then, as i came to a gate, a hound went belting past. Looked out across the field and could see a good few folk ringing a maize crop, while the local hunt chased some trails. So that was my ferreting forgotten about, went and joined the farmer and his missus and watched for a g
  7. I would never take a ferret out round the streets on a lead. No chance, too much chance of picking something up.
  8. So i guess e.u poley are sooo last season, and now it's marble polecats? Where did your mate get them from?
  9. It's this pish that gets me. A decent normal ferret - will not enter if there is nowt at home. - won't bite if well handled. - won't come out till there are no rabbits left below ground. - is fast as feck. - will work all day everyday if well looked after. . . . . so stop with all this "they are the best workers you will ever have", as it just makes it sound like you have always experienced shit ferrets to be honest.

    Myxomatosis

Just woke up, can't remember off top of my head, but think it was meant to be 'invented' initially by a french doctor?
  11. Alright mate, try feeding her something like wood pigeon, it has a much higher fat content than rabbit, see if that makes a difference? I have a jill here and she is really skinny as well, i think it's just her body type.
  12. Aye mate, it happens to us all, it's just part of the game, especially at this time of year. lamping crazy - long time no speak, I sent you a pm mate.
  13. Same old same old, just wishing the summer away. Pm who you are.
  14. Had another long day in work. Took the dog out for his walk, with a jill and a few nets along as usual. Had a nice walk a long some hedge rows, getting marks here and there, but still too much cover to be bothering with them this time. Then decided to let Finn have a hunt about a piece of scrubby woodland, that i know holds a few, and has some clear patches, as wel some horrible thick bits. There was a fair bit of scent about, mostly in the cover, but then got a decent mark on a set half at the top of a stream bank and half on the vertical side of the banking, dog marked three sepa
  15. Getting rid of ferrets, but wanting a breeding pair of dark e.u's. FUNNY THAT!
  16. Greek Phil - every time you write / speak, you just confirm what a total and utter cun.t you are. Please die.
  17. Well done rob, and well done TIlly!, Sounds like a good night on all accounts mate. One word of warning with the cows, while the dog may be broke to them, just remember they are not broke to the dog, getting too close can lead to some very bad things, especially at night.
  18. It's just like EVERYTHING else, it's not black and white, there is a good way and a bad way of doing the same thing. Some folk are just wankers and whatever they do they manage to act like a fecking knob and cause problems for everyone else, and others can do pretty much the same thing and not cause any . . . .
  19. Ah shit mate, that's not good, but it's more likely to heal in a young dog. I'd PM Skycat, she knows her shit about injuries etc.
  20. Either a heart attack from too much ferret loving, or the jill took umbrage to the hobs advances. . . . .
  21. Cheers guys! And thanks PJ - that's a really sound thing to say mate!
  22. Jasper, that's one beautiful bird! And BB - well done mate, the kids lucky to have an Uncle like you, i can just imagine him telling the other kids in school about his owl when he goes back! Out of interest, can you lamp an Owl?
  23. id prob participate in that mate, sadly there hardly a flapping track around these days, wonder if you could rent a fileld from a farmer for the day, just for a laugh and let the dogs have a run.even a wee bet on the side.maybe on to something there. With this many folk with lurchers on here, it could be done?
