  1. Heres my best tip - Rabbit can taste a bit shit to be honest, it's the urea in the blood, so get a big pan and boil some water in it, and dissolve a load of salt in it, then joint your bunny (s) and when the water has cooled, stick them in it and leave them to soak over night. The salt water will draw the urea out of the blood / meat and will greatly improve the taste. Then cook however you want. You can use it like any other meat, spag bol, pie, casserole, sandwiches, chilli, curry, burgers etc etc etc If making burgers or something like that then you will need to add some por
  2. Alright mate, sounds good, i will pm you details of the place i am talking about, i'll get my missus to tell me exactly what it's called, but seriously there are rabbits fecking everywhere, and i reckon you could be well into double figures with a dog during the daytime! So even if no ferreting is forthcoming it's probably worth a mooch. Thing is a can't seem to find who owns it! Always the way with the bitch ,mate, best laid plans and all that . . . . Speak soon, jai.
  3. To be fair, r.e what are they going to do? I guess a cat could claw one through the wire, might lose an eye? Borrow a terrier and leave it out in the yard over night.
  4. Aye the ferret was a bit miffed i think. KR - Aye mate, if bunny heaven is inside the 8 stinkers in the main court then aye it's there. Isa - I've not forgot about that PM mate, and there were def no more in that set, as the ferret came out and the dog was no longer interested.
  5. Call shootamatt and borrow one of his hobs . . . . .

Gun. Larson. Catty. Any of the above.
  7. They look well made matey, the rifle bolt holsters look like they would make good knife holders / sheaths as well.
  8. The only issue is watching you dog chase rabbit number 1 off down the field as rabbit 2-6 casually f**k off the other direction.
  9. Course a cat could catch a hare, just not by chasing it. . . . .
  10. Alright matey! Good to hear from you. How you doing. My missus moves to Germany next week, so if i'm coming to sussex it's to visit you guys. I also have a particular spot that i would really really like to ferret down there and don't think there would be an one complaining (other than passers by) and the place is literally over run with rabbits, i counted over 130 sat out in the time it took me to smoke a ciggy. So aye, i'd like to make a trip!
  11. It's funny mate, it's never crossed my mind, but i might just do that now! Need to give it some new straps, the current one, is a piece of an old barbour jacket that has been on it longer than i been on this planet. Was thinking of putting two webbing straps on, so i can wear it back pack style, i swear it's the heaviest box ever!
  12. Well done matey, and nice to see your nets working their magic!
  13. Well done mate, sounds like the dog will make a useful ferreting partner!
  14. Was walking the dog today along some lanes, and was passing a large garden. The owner was out mowing his lawn and i saw him watching me walk by. I could see he was getting ready to say something to me . . . . . . and it was more pleasant than i expected! Apparently his garden is rabbit fenced, but someone had let a bunny in, and said bunny had set up it's new home on his lawn. He asked if i could sort it out (now why would he possibly think that?). Went in and Finn confirmed that bunny was home. Anyway, popped home and got Socks, a kit from last year, bred by my ferreting par
  15. He's just big boned mate. Haha, naaaaw he's a little chubby at the moment, but shhhhhh or you will give him a complex!
  16. TO be fair, on a flat out run, open country, day time, i'd be surprised if he caught one. However, plenty of dogs, if they have the inclination, will catch them around or in cover. I used to have a corder collie who would do it and was a handy ferreting dog. Marked well, caught bolters at the mouth, held bunnies in the net etc. Depends on the individual dog, but it's worth persevering, even if just for his fitness. If you get him marking he will make your ferreting much easier! You could even try him on the lamp and he would probably catch a few there.
  17. Happy Birthday wee man! Hope you have a good day mate!
  18. SR - Hope you do mate! KR - Aye, i can't wait for the snow, everything is to ground then and the occupied looking warrens usually hold bunnies. Right now, i'm always seeing very fresh looking holes, lots of fresh shit, red earth etc, and then dog says no! If i didn't have the dog i'd forever be netting up empty holes.
  19. Hahahaha priceless! And there was me digging the cat pit in the back garden. . . . .
  20. I agree there are going to be pretty much no working wolfhounds, but then the aussies use them and danes (what the f**k?) to make some pretty tough pig dogs.
  21. If you want to believe a lad that says hes done nothing with his dogs but in the next breathe he says his lurcher and blood hound killed a 200lb puma you craic on fella I didn't say i believed this lad, i just think it's funny how many experts you get on here on stuff they have never encountered in their lives. It's the old, i have not seen it / i don't THINK it could happen. . . . . therefore it is 'impossible'. Also i don't think he said it was his dogs did he.
  22. Bad luck kittle! Without finn marking, i'd be fecked to be fair. There are a lot more sets here than rabbits to ground (especially at this time of year). I couldn't ferret without a dog, the thought of laying all those nets only to have the ferret go half a foot down then turn round and come out is not a pleasant one.
  23. I always like the way that you get a load of folks that have never even seen a cougar telling a bloke that lives in a country over run with them, where they are regularly hunted with dogs, that it is impossible that a dog killed one. blah blah blah IMO . . . . . . well your opinion ain't worth shit buddy!
