  1. Cheers matey, he does me. He's a f****r sometimes, but handy. I was only out an hour tops, nice to stretch the legs and i hate blanking on any walk. . . . . and sorry i'm not up for a swap. haha.
  2. Went to see a farmer this evening and after a lengthy chat, got given permission on a decent sized arable farm and some woodland. I have to go back early next week and meet the neighbors who own the property a long the one edge, as apparently this is where most of the rabbits are, and one of them is a rather important person and anyone skulking about her boundaries is likely to get jumped on by a security detail. . . . joy. Anyway, went for a walk when i got back to stretch the dogs legs (and mine), it was raining and the light was fading, but i managed two, from different sets, before i g
  3. Aye, i was thinking, lower horse fields, bit behind eddies quickly, tank mans, and if that all drys up, this new place is on way back to you.
  4. Cheers guys, glad you enjoyed them! DOn't worry johnnyboy, i'm keeping away from the proper land, which i'll tell you is hard, i just know there are rabbits in them lower horse fields, but we'll hit them on sat is it? Also going to look at another farm later mate, so fingers crossed, lots of bunnies and little cover!
  5. Could be mange mate. Looks like a kind of reddy/brown rust on the skin when you part the hair. Can be sorted with ivermectin. When i had it i used xeno mini 50 for the smaller ferrets and xeno 450 for the larger hobs. Just a thought.
  6. If it weren't for farmers/keepers. . . . .where the f**k would we all work our dogs? Tescos carpark? Get real, we need them, a lot more than they need us.
  7. Meant to be set in tunnels, and if set in warrens i prefer to stick a couple of sticks in to narrow the entrance (if it's wide) to stop any dog or anything getting it's head in. Issue is probably more, snares set by idiots in cover or in hedges, and your dog hitting one while out of sight and choking before you got to it. As scott said, i'd be waiting and hanging the c**t by their own snare.

A man says - here is my banned breed, please come and put him down. Why? Even if it aint what it's meant to be.
  9. Just for the record, no one can 'legally' shoot a dog for trespassing. Only for actively worrying stock, with 'proof', however, like has been said, in a 'their word and yours' situation, it's unlikely you will be believed, especially seeing as you cannot prove a dead dog is stock broken. Threatening to shoot a dog however, if reported, (and they activly did some gun pointing) will see them answering some serious questions. . . .
  10. It's a case of the decent folk ending up getting the treatment that the scum probably deserve. . . . . not that i'm advocating any one shooting any dogs. But it's certainly a minority ruining it for others. Well to be fair it's probably a majority now!
  11. Does it look kind of like red/brown rust on their skin?
  12. Took the dog out for his walk, with a jill and some nets, into the woods behind the house. It never holds much, but you can often find the odd one. Anyway, put a couple up, but they went to ground in the cover, so f**k that. Eventually got a mark on a fairly spread out set, netted it all up, and dropped the ferret in, was quiet for a fair bit, and then bunny bolted from the furthest hole from where i was, and one that was fairly poorly netted due to being surrounded by cover. The rabbit made it half way out the net and was about to make his escape, but the dog was quicker than him. Ano
  13. Glad everyone enjoyed the read! As for Finn, i don't think he will ever stop hunting up totally if he doesn't know where the rabbit has gone, but if it's gone to ground, then i think he will learn to give it up, the issue is when it gets into cover and he knows it's still in there, i.e woodland, as far as he is concerned, light or no light the hunt is still on, his nose is phenomenal, so he doesn't really need to be able to see. You shut the lamp off and he just keeps going, but runs into more stuff haha. Malc - i'd be well up for a trip up with the ferrets, anytime, just give us a sho
  14. Cheers guys! Adam - i am pretty lucky where i live, plenty of land, just unfortunately not huge amounts of game, and hitting it every season obviously has something to do with that, still it keeps me busy. Muddy - that jill is a star mate, she is only young, would have been two this summer. She is probably my second best jill, out of five. I have been using her a lot at the start of this season to get her back into the swing, and because my best jill has been at the tail end of a phantom pregnancy. I think i need to give her some time off though, as in the last week she has had some ep
  15. Cheers folks, ORT bitch is a real pleasure to watch, and i thought it worth a post. CG - Aye i was happy with him, but to be honest, i'm not sure if he will ever make a true 'lamp dog' as that just isn't his main occupation, he;s worked pretty much 7 days a week in the season, day time. But if i can have the odd night out with him, for a laugh and a bit of fitness, i'll be happy. Only problem, is if the quarry isn't caught and doesn't go to ground but hits cover, or goes into a wood, he will stick his nose down and plough on and on, as that's what is usually expected of him. He also has n
  16. O yer, Dan says you can bring dogs instead of guns if you want!
  17. There has been a photography comp going on in the air rifle section (but open to all), and obviously there have been very few entries or votes by non air rifle lads, which i don't think is fair, and so i thought i would stick the info here so that it was more open to all. The prize is a cracking one and donated by the legend that is danw. Now get entering! Below is what was written about the comp! "ok folks, heres the photograph of the year competition, running from now til the end of may 2012, which will give us enough time to vote an overall winner and get the calender out in tim
  18. Good thinking, It would definitely get more people interested. Plus a massive well done to Danw for the main prize on offer, top drawer Too right I know I've said this before, but I really am very suprised that this hasn't had a lot more interest than it has so far and the more folks who know about it the better. If it does come good and turns into a calender that sells well with the proceeds going to Help For Heros, as was mentioned when Wurz first posted about this, then it has to be a good thing. I'm not being funny mate, but a lot of folk i have spoken to haven't both
  19. Still no chance of putting something about it in the general or photo section in the name of fairness??????
  20. Cheers guys! FSM - no mate, i know you didn't, it's just kind of funny, i really don't have much of a life these days, outside of spending time with my ferrets and dogs and my missus when she is about.
  21. Got a call last night, last minute, from Oldrealtree off here, asking if i fancied a quick walk for an hour (as we both had work today). We decided to visit one of my bits of land which is a a short drive for both of us and fairly small. We met up at 10, ORT bringing his saluki/grey x whippet bitch Milly and me taking a long my whippet Finn. I mainly took Finn for the walk, as he is a ferreting/mooching dog and has never really been on the lamp, i think he's had 3 runs in his life but i thought i would give him a run if the right rabbit came up, just to see how he did. Anyway, typical,
  22. WHEN DO YOU STOP THIS METHOD 2,3,4 OR MAYBE 5 YEAROLD .NOT BEING FUNNY JUST WONDERING. After the couple of days it takes for the dog to click, genius. If it doesn't, it doesn't. By the way, the dog in question started catching bunnies a couple of nights later. We really need a clear up on here, it's just getting boring now, no hunting posts and lots of wind up merchants, whats the point of the place any more?
  23. What i said was, if the dog is having difficulty striking, then maybe take it out with a dead bunny on a rope or rabbit skin dummy and give it a bit of practice striking to help it a long, i don't think i would be a lone in suggesting this. What exactly have you contributed you fuckwit?
