Apparently the rules are changing? So vets cannot keep opened vials of the stuff, so would need to charge for the whole vial, therefore making it stupidly expensive?

I know what you are saying Jamie and i agree with you mate, it's like any other litter, you will never get 100% success, i never claimed that, it's just always worth asking if those who are slating the mans dogs have ACTUALLY seen a bad one? And a bad one for their breed, rather than in comparison to other x's or breeds. I just think stating 'there are good and bad in any x' or 'not every dog in the litter will be a world beater' is a pointless thing to say as it's an obvious fact of life / the world. Out of interest were any of the 'bad ones' direct from Mike? I have seen a decent

Yes mate. . . that is true, and kind of stating the obvious don't you think? Where did i say every one was a 'world beater'???? I said, go find one that was / is shit??? You get a lot of folk slating the mans dogs, and those folk usually cannot hold up an example of a shitty dog from him. But will say his dogs are shitty Of course some dogs do not make 'the grade' (?), there will be a variable level of attainment across/amongst pups from him, but as most are bought as rabbiting dogs, most pretty much do 'make the grade', and the pups he produces are very 'consistent' in attitude, prey

Cheers lads, looking forward to next weekend already! Joed - the cover is still bad here mate, but we just mooched about the spots where it wasn't too bad. Some of the land we hunt we can't get on until christmas as the cover is just silly.

Nice pics johnnyboy, didn't realize you had taken them! I notice i managed to avoid getting on camera again! Newkid - young tom is shaping up to be a great ferreter, just turned 14, and started coming a long with us the second half of last season, good company, and a very polite, respectful teenager, he now has his own ferrets (1 from me and 1 from johnnyboy) and kit and fecking loves it.

Cheers guys, the pics are off my phone, so not the best! I had to stick the ikea bag inside a plastic crate so it could go on the back seat of the car. . . . . . i miss the pick up! haha.

Magyar Agar - like anything else mate, there were good and bad ones, i had the pleasure of watching some good ones. Pretty much mainly used for coursing hares, they were great to watch, like decent greyhounds (i.e greyhounds bred to hunt not race). Also saw them kill foxes.

So, today was the first proper day of my ferreting season, and it couldn't have come soon enough! Got up about 6am, jumped in the car and went to get johnnyboy68, two jills sky and poley, and two dogs Gem and Luna. Got back to mine, had a chat, grabbed two of my jills, Boots and Tilly and Finn the whippet and set off to the first spot. Decided to start at some horse paddocks that we had not done before, although i had a quick look end of last season and knew there would be a few about. Pulled the car up, and there were a few sat out and about on the verge, most of which bolted the wron

Magyar Agar - many times. Polski - a good few times.

Before you listen to all the bullshit from the knockers, see if you can find anyone with a dog out of him who says it is / was shit. P.s - i wouldn't part with mine for anything.
-
. . . . . . that and the way folk always try to suggest they are 'better' workers than normal ferrets, and the just describe what a decent ferret should work like.

Just thought i would add a couple of things that i find help - - Set the draw cord as tightly as possible, that way there is no travel when the rabbit hits the net and it will begin pursing as soon as bunny hits it. - Push the extra netting back into the hole, that way it's more likely to wrap around the rabbit. - Stick the bottom ring of the net down the hole and dig the ring into the soil a bit, spread the netting across the floor of the hole evenly, that way the rabbit is running on top of the netting and hitting the middle rather than the bottom edge. - Make sure the draw

AYe matey, see you then! Looking forward to it as ever!

Looks like a pleasant place to spend a winters day mate.
-
Cheers mate, will be nice to have a full day, just been doing the odd hour in the eve last week and a bit to get the dog and couple of the ferrets back in the swing. Still a lot of cover here and very warm, so the rabbits are not really to ground. Roll on winter!

Cheers muddy!

Usual walk out with the mutt this evening. Went a long a scrubby stream. Got a nice mark on a 4 holer, stuck down my smallest jill and all hell broke out, the rabbit decided to face her and much banging later, eventually bolted without it's eyes. Then got another funny kind of mark on a bigger set, netted up and dropped the ferret in, very quiet, eventually got a mark, 3 ft down, dug through and it was a young un, very dead. Went home. Had a curry. Weighed the big bunny, was 1850 gms, ferret weighs 650 gms. Out for the 1st proper day of the season tomorrow with joh

This sounds familiar? I remember a post a good while ago about someone trying to kill a pup with a potato peeler?

IS THERE LACK OF FERRETERS IN CORNWALL OR IS IT ME?
Ideation replied to joehoskin's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
If there are no ferreters in your area and there are bunnies, go knock some doors and get some permission, and get on with it, and then convince a mate to come a long and school him as your partner. -
No such thing as too late mate.

European Ferret - Any ferret born in Europe. European Polecats - An attempted sales pitch whereby very dark ferrets are passed off as far superior to the above by folk who have only ever seen a shit ferret and think it's a revelation when the animal they use goes down the hole and bolts rabbits.

To be honest i wouldn't do it without someone i had seen shooting before hand. As lad says, get a high vis and very clearly mark out where he CANNOT shoot.

A dog is for life not....or am I old fashioned??
Ideation replied to midlands_moocher's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
The internet is to blame for a lot of dogs being passed on or dumped, folk always wanting some kind of super dog like they hear about on the boards ( which is mostly bullshit), not everyone can have the best dog in the world, better than everyone elses. It just doesn't work like that. -
f**k me, pessimistic! The lad has just started her on the lamp, she's taking rabbits daytime and your saying, if she doesn't start bagging them in the next couple of trips, stick her in a pet home! Bit extreme that. She can obviously take them, just needs more practice and experiance, she's 13 month ffs. Maybe try with a rabbit skin dummy on a rope, swinging it about, get her to practice her strike etc. Don't just give up on the dog and move on.
-
Just make sure whoever is shooting doesnt get too excited and shoot at a rabbit running up the hedge and shoot you. They must only shoot away from the hedge at rabbits passing them by / passed by them.
