    And at the end of the day, us dog folk are f****d, as it's seen as 'so much less cruel' just to shoot everything. We will end up like some european countries, where all dog work is banned pretty much but shooting is very popular!

    Unfortunatly the average man in the street only sees the idiots, as the rest of us go unnoticed, and based upon that, i don't blame them for thinking we are all scum.

    O yes and it would be very handy if it spoke on scent, in fact almost a must.

    Good questions BH, i will try to answer them. The dog would need to be comfortable hunting at a distance with the other dogs, and out of sight sometimes, but at the same time, needs to know to work with the other dogs and myself, rather than run a line off on it's own as a pure hound would. It would be hunting 'mixed quarry', mainly rabbits and fox, although it would have the chance of pushing other game. The land would be everything from open mountainside / top with bracken and gorse covering, to woodland and forestry, to bramble patches and ditches. So a mix of wider ranging stuf

    Stan - at the moment im thinking spaniel / beagle or beagle / russel type. Ideally not too much beagle lol, as i want it to be hunting in the same county a me.

    I know what you are saying about the springers, but that's my old mans thing. He spent a long time breeding, working and trailing them and had some very top dogs, but i like a catch dog as well as a hunting dog, and the idea of a spaniel grabbing game makes me feel funny lol.

    Best two knives in the world and only two you need are - an Opinel. and - A Mora. f**k the rest, you can do ANYTHING you could want to with a dead animal with these bad boys.

    I find best bet if you get any kind of suggestion of permission, to drop everything and go asap and show them a result, usually nails it down for you. You are right about the permission thing - with folk collecting too much. I've had it a few times, especially it seems, lads with air rifles. They get a load of land and love having a wander about and a lie down near the warrens etc, but it just isnt very efficient. One good day with the ferrets, and you have done what they do in a month, and the land is yours. And i fecking HATE sharing land, it's a pain in the arse.

    I wasn't sure where to put this, the lurcher, hound or terrier section. . . . . But i am looking for someone who is breeding / breeds / keeps a decent line of cover dogs, maybe some kind of hound / terrier mix. I am looking for a pup to bring on and use to work cover for the runners. Ideally, not a pure terrier as i have an abundance of the wrong kind of holes around here. Any help and suggestions appreciated! Atb.

    VHD is leathal, kills the population off quick, they usually die underground.

    I think this one has been put to bed numerous times, and the answer was, they are not and never will be fox dogs, but plenty should be able to take the odd fox here and there, although against some, they will take a bit of stick.

    Like most places, it's not too bad if you are in the right place, most fok will leave you to it. Best place i been in Europe for it was Hungary, lots of hares, huge huge huge flat land and you are allowed to walk where you please to run them, the farmers don't mind.
