  1. Shit loads down south and they are starting here as well. Pray for a cold snap in the next couple of weeks and they will re-absorb them, if not we're in for some hard work next month.
  2. Cheers Rake Never a dull day in the woods with my mutt matey You are right about the chest, he's pretty much just back legs and lungs He's one driven little b*****d, hits cover hard and works through like a terrier. He's learning the lamp well also, just had him out now and and he made some great catches, but then hit a piece of metal sheeting in the hedge flat out and cut his face a bit, so we're back home. In the house, he is the best dog i have ever had, loyal as hell, loving, quiet, good gaurd etc. He's my best mate
  3. DAMMIT. Thought Bear Twat had died and was about to break out the party cannon.
  4. More scars for the dog.

  5. Cant beat that can you matey
  6. Well done matey the thing with mink, is that a dog broken to ferrets is often a wee bit confused i guess. Just took finn out back and had a couple of runs, which he caught, then he half kncoked himself out crashing into a metal sheet in the hedge
  7. Well done matey, i never tire of reading your posts or looking at your photos. I'd love to meet your old man, i bet he is one of lifes true characters
  8. Vin - that is my exact ethos mate, and very true words indeed! Teg - Cheers matey, but its on the cards. I have already decided what to do next though and will get the relevant training needed done before my current job ends, so hopefully i should be able to step straight across, and funnily enough the new job leaves me even more ferreting time
  9. Well done matey If you ever need a hand, i'm not a million mile away from Somerset and would take a trip down for a day
  10. For the record, it's not my dog, as much as i would like to claim her She is owned by my hunting partner, johnnyboy68, and for her age she is shaping up to be a cracking dog both day and night and i have never met a dog with such a barmy personality!
  11. It was I thought when I am not in work meant I am out of work I know its fairly poor for work in your neck off the woods and know a fair few mates struggling for work your way as use to work as instrustor in surival in around your area . ATB Cookie No i just meant that my time is divided into being in work or being out hunting, as currently i live a lone and have no mates Well, at least none that i dont see on a days ferreting / hunting. I'm fairly lucky in that respect mate, i have had a decent job for the last couple of years, which pays pretty well and allows me to be flex
  12. Good write up and nice dog Proper fox control on a dairy farm?
  13. Good mooch planned for tomo with johnnyboy68.

  14. Cheers guys! Whin - aye i love the woods and its where i seem to spend most of my days. They are my favourite place to hunt, along with the mountains. Cookie - Was that directed at me? I actually work Mon/Tue/Thurs/Fri daytime and some evenings and so have wednesdays off.
  15. dont you like trying new places cookie or is it the driving a long way ?? The time is one factor dont mind driving but the huge cost of fuel 400 mile round trip £ notes I guess Hunting in diffrent areas yes great but at the end of the day for ME hunting a coney in oxfordshire or scotlands highlands the actual act of the ferretting is excatly the same the thrill . Its like women we all want to have a diffrent bird but once you shut your eyes the feeling the same no matter what she looks like. ATB Cookie I take your point mate. It cost about £40, which to be fair,

  17. 2.5 - 3 hours in the car, flies by, once you get the tunes on, the flask out and bite into a beef and stilton sandwich (with caramalised onion relish). And it is a small price to pay for walking fresh land you dont know like the back of your hand, and meeting a sound bloke. Will be doing it all over again in a couple of weeks I'll drive anywhere for a bit of sport and something different
  18. Well done mate, and well done Tilly, she is shaping up well for you now mate!
  19. It's land dependant for me, different land, different times. Was down south wed and pretty much every doe was full of young and i was passing places where the badgers had been digging up nests. The higher and colder you are the longer you get. Will probably be done and dusted sometime in march. Although i do like to get a day on my birthday, which is the 29th.
  20. Cheers mate, if i had been taking it seriously, and having a days 'ferreting' rather than a mooch and explore, i reckon i'd have hit the 30 mark.
  21. 2 more things - You asked about time of day - in my opinion it's important, avoid milking time if its a dairy area, and generally avoid tea time etc, and sundays, as most farmers just want to put their feet up and be left a lone. I usually go either mid morning / lunch time / mid afternoon. I also make sure i have some cards, and if they are busy, just drop a card and say call me if you ever have a problem. or i wll pop back in a few days and see if i can catch you etc. 99% of my permission has come through word of mouth or being able to name drop. Finally - you say you are surpris
  22. I have not read it all, but at the end of the day, most of the time it's who you know and not what you know. There is a HUGE number of folk all competing for a reletivly small amount of land and game / vermin. And in some areas you might as well try knitting snot, as its all estate land etc. Finally - i know you say that this is a logical place to ask for permission . . . . how so, it is a sight FULL to the brim of folk WANTING permission, so it's unlikely any will come up. However, i have enjoyed many many days hunting out on different land, through folk i have met on here
  23. Your obviously young, so here is a bit of advice, some things are best kept to your self, especially thing which are illegal and involve what some would see as baiting. But good luck tomorrow, and i hope the pup does you proud.
