  1. I spend all winter mooching about with the ferrets and dog, but in the summer, i love to fish. I have always fished since i was a little kid, tagging a long with my father and grandfather, like they did with theirs. As a kid it was always light rods with a worm, wading up streams, flicking the worm up stream and letting it trickle a long, hoping for a wild brownie from a likely looking spot, some under hang, or eddy. Now i mainly fly fish, either on the river for the browns, or on still waters after rainbows / browns depending. I'm no fan of the really busy ponds, with pegs all around them and
  2. Cracking pictures matey! Just sitting down to do the post and i realised you've saved me a job It was a cracking day and the wee man was spot on, walked for a good 2.5 hours, didn't moan and was funny as hell
  3. Aye if i had to use a collie x in ireland from what i have seen on here it would either be lurcher 330's old dog, or scents old dog. Both are still doing the biz at an old age and look like they know how to catch and kill a fox. Good conformation etc as well. Both dogs a credit to their owners.
  4. Cheers all She has certainly fallen on her feet, from running about a car park, covered in her own piss and shit, to living with a guy who loves her to bits and works for himself outside in woodland, so she is outside all day long running about, gets lots of positive attention and experiance. I've no doubt from watching her that she will be capable of adding some extra meat to his larder if he decides to try. The One - If we had come across something that was right, we'd have given her a slip, but we only saw a couple of bunnys that were a ridiculous distance away and already moving f
  5. To be honest i'm looking for something a long the lines of spaniel x beagle, from good grafting parents.
  6. Cheers lads, she isn't running fit obviously, but she has the makings of a good dog to have about and fill the pot for her owner. To see her now compared to what she was like when found at a couple of months old is great.
  7. Some of you may remember about a year ago i put up a thread about a friend of mine rescuing a pup. It wa found in a car park and was in a bad way, no fur, really thin, and scared. The first folk he showed it to said it was some kind of lurcher, probably collie x, but as soon as i saw it it was obviously bully. We settled on bull x whippet with some collie somewhere. Anyway, that was a year ago, and over the last year, she has gone from a skinny runt, scared of her own shadow, that wouldnt come near you etc, to a nice healthy bitch, really calm and friendly, likes a play with the other dogs and
  8. Aye. . . . have hard can it be to see that's f****d up. Trees produce oxygen. People need oxygen. Number of trees is decreasing. Number of folk producing. f****d! Not to mention the massive habitat destruction etc.
  9. Right - i'm bumping this, as i'm still searching!
  10. Aye . . . pretty much mate.
  11. I don't see the harm in letting her have a little mouth of the rabbits in the net, or on the ground. It's only natural that she is interested and want to explore it with her mouth. If you are bothered by her doing it, put them out of reach so she cant, and you can avoid haveing to chastise her. Although there is nothing wrong with saying 'dead' or 'leave' and taking it off her, i wouldnt scold her too much, shes just a pup and its what pups do.
  12. Well done mate, it's just nice t get out. Pup is looking well, whats in her all together? Looks beddy ish. It's like bloody summer here, too hot, and all ferrets have their minds on other things!
  13. Aye, why dispose of, just cos they are carrying young?
  14. Nice to hear mate, and i bet you are made up. Not sure if i would be out getting my gun dogs to chase live game though? Having said that, i know a lad whos spaniels are steady on pheasants, but will chase a rabbit.
  15. Mine knows the difference between things that could bite and thiings that dont, so rabbits are just paraded around and brought in alive, and rats etc, shaken to feck as soon as he gets hold of them.
  16. Just back from a good walk.

  17. This is how it starts mate! And you laughed at me for having ten!
  18. Just for the record, i wasn't necessarily talking of just collie/grey mix lurchers, but of collie type lurcher x lurcher bred dogs, which might have a good mix of other breeds in it.
  19. Aye, i'd say so. I think the thing is with the dog in question, you pretty much just take her a long and she does what she thinks is best, and you dont really give her any instructions, and it's day work, which i think makes a difference. I just dont take her anywhere and do anything we wouldnt normally do. But it is always still in the back of your mind that something could happen. But she is an old bitch and these are her last few working years, so it's good for her to be able to get out as much as possible.
  20. Not quite the same but i soetimes take Johnnyboy68s old bitch Gem out with me when i go ferreting, and this year she has been as far as yorkshire with me, and spent two nights at mine in the process.
  21. I just spotted this mate, really sorry to hear. Tragic way for a good dog to go. But you got to pick yourself up and keep on going both for yourself and the other dogs. RIP Katie.
  22. I'm glad i started this post! It's had some interesting replies. I'm interested in ANY consistent line of collie based lurcher x lurcher dogs that are doing the biz, regardless of what they are called, who owns them or where they are from. It's all very well saying, they are out there but kept highly secret and spoken of / shown to no one - but lets be honest, that's f**k all use to me, is it??? If there is no way of me finding out about them, then they might a well not exist (for me). After writing this - i realise that tomo has written the same above, so at least someone is on th
  23. Not at all mate, i wasn't suggesting that the ideal dog for me was just collie / grey hound mix, but a lurcher to lurcher line that was throwing collie lurcher types. If that makes sense.
