  1. Anyone who has had a 'fenton moment', in a very public place would probably see the handyness
  2. RD - It's obviously very early days, but i would say, from watching her that she is shaping up well for the day work side of things, she knows what her nose is for, follows scents, and has entered cover and bolted rabbits, and marks. She is agile like a cat. With regard to night work, ive no idea, but i will say, she has endless stamina, and is fast as feck.
  3. Cheers all! Jay - I've been meanng to call you for weeks lol! The pup is mad, she is long all over. What's impressive is her abilty to over come obstacles, no fence, gate or anything stops her, she is over or through it, no probs, same with thick cover, no problem, and she is marking, and hunting scent all ready. Retrievng s going well, and recall is great. If she would just leave the other dogs a lone for 5 mins we would be all good!
  4. Mind you, unlike most others on here, i wouldnt mnd having a dog that could be called off mid chase at all, as long is its working ability was good, as in todays climate it could be handy, as i realy love day work, and thats often leads to 'issues' haha.,
  5. To be honest, i have enough trouble getting my dog to hear my voice when he is in even vague proximity to game, let a lone, once it's sighted. Although its a good test,if he has his noseto the ground and totally ignoresme when i call him, chances are within the next 5 mns you will see a run. But once it's up, he just completely goes deaf and dumb to anything else. Only dogs i could imagne being able to do it without it hidering would be collie x's. I'm sure it could be done, but only to the detrement of the dogs working ability, as it will always ben half waiting to hear the command to stop.
  6. Had a walk today, same as every day, a couple of hours spent in the rain / over cast conditions, scaring pheasants and running the odd bunny to ground. Had my lad, and two kennel guests with me today. Not many photos as the conditions were shit. Two old dogs ran something to ground that they decided to trench out as well, but i pulled them away before they got more than a couple of feet down. Atb, Ideation.
  7. If you fancy shipping them down ths way, we will take all you can give
  8. Bonny lookng pups, what is in the dams make up, the pups seem to have thrown heavier coats and body then either sire or dam.
  9. Nice photos mate. I've got a thing for old buildings, i love having a scamper about.
  10. I have travelled all over the country, catching rabbits in many different counties, on many different types of land. Over the last couple of seasons especially, everyone, every where, has noticed a drop in rabbits. Either, put down to disease etc, or to lads coming from areas with depleted stocks, to grab what they can from areas that seem better. If you speak to anyone who has been in the game long, they say the same thing. The only lads who think it looks good, are those who have only been in it a few years, and have gone from permissions with feck all, to have decent bits of land.
  11. Been meaning to say, the fences are up, railway carraige is almost fixed up, and holding number is on it's way. Looks like i will be getting some pigs soon, probably saddle backs.
  12. You say they are fading out, almost half the topics on the first page of this section are bull x related.
  13. Pest control blah blah blah. Same old story. Half the folk on here are poaching anyway, so it's just bollocks
  14. You poor poor poor b*****d, going to uni in Newport
  15. Aye, makes me laugh. Saw an offer of some permission on here the other day at a golf course with 'millions' of rabbits I lose count of the number of times i've been called to come look at some land with a 'serious' rabbit problem, and its been maybe a few dozen rabbits doing the damage. When you see a serious rabbit problem, you know it, and even then, these days, you are lucky to be able to take 50 + in a sitting regular off even the most highly populated areas. WIth the combination of disease, and predation, and hunting, i think in years to come we will really struggle to find rabbits.
  16. I'm sure he may well be mate, like i said, i just haven't looked.
  17. Sire is a dog called 'Foxer something or other' and the Dam is called "Rabbit Catcher something" lol, i've got them on his ped. The bitch was out of Mike Browns Glen, over a bitch sired by Sooty Sam., the Sire was out of a dog sired by Lord of the night, over a Laguna bitch, stuck over another bitch sired by sooty sam. If that makes any sense. He does for me.
  18. I hope bull x's become less popular, i don't have one, but i respect them and quite like them, and maybe if the popularity falls, then the quality will rise. In fact, i would say that i wish ALL lurchers became less popular, as popularity in any thing, leads to muppets getting involved and standards falling. J.porter - You keep going on about that pup and it looks nice, but you have only had it 5 mins and bought it in, so i'd hush your gums until you actually know, rather than think, its decent. By saying that it is as game or able as a well bred bull x is total nonsense.
  19. same as the fox thread the other day if the aint causing no harm then theres no reason to bother them Aye, too true. It's amazing how many folk shoot them in summer, and say they have to to keep the land, and yet shoot feck all, over winter. So their land owners, must be pretty relaxed about it all.
