  1. See i hit the head / neck, rather than neck / shoulders. So no bruised meat. Usually they just bleed out the nose, like the brain has been mushed.
  2. As lab says, if done properly its all the same. I genuinly think i can dispatch a rabbit in a net with a chop, as quickly and discretly as others chin them, and drop them to put a new net on. Quite funny, but i noticed the other day i have a callous and an over developed muscle in my one hand where i chop them. From whacking the same point of my hand so many times.
  3. Some good replies. Not aware of the warrener thing? Never seen any of his dvds, but firing catapults when ferreting does sound daft, but thats common sense. As for the rabbit punch, it doesnt need to be done out of the net, most of the time i find it as quick as chinning, i just hold them behind the shoulders and give them a sharp tap on the back of the neck / skull, and its night nght, a reverse chin i guess.
  4. Tomo is a good bloke to ask. But i think the simple answer is, bury the box a long a fence / wall line at a good crossing point and make sure the rest is well fenced.
  5. Both correct, in general its very poor these days, although there are the odd good articles. However, this is just something i was thinking about when reading that article, it goes on just as much on here sometimes, and in general life.
  6. I'm not sure why, but i quite often buy the countrymans weekly, it's something to read in work, where they have now blocked the hunting life on the computer. I can usually guarentee that there will be something annoying in it, something that pisses me off, usually some kind of arrogance, or one sided opinion. Such classics as "of course, all poachers are criminals, and will think nothing of stealing farm machinery". Anyhow, i was reading the copy that i picked up today, and noticed an article about how "Ferreting for a living is jolly hard work". Now while i don't argue, that doing anythin
  7. If you drop lucky you will be ok, but most dogs are sold for a reason. Being honest though, if its just about dropping rabbit numbers quick, a dog isnt the answer, and if you want a dog as a ferreting and lamping buddy etc, then start from a pup. P.S Why is air rifle not an option, a lamp at night, with an air rifle, on a golf buggy, will drop more bunnys than a dog on a golf course, they are a fecking nightmare to catch on with a dog, turbo charged rabbits and lots of hazards.
  8. Better than we did mate, feck all about, apart from nests!
  9. I've got 4 hobs housed together in agood sized court, apart from a bit of a scuffle the odd times, it's all good. Used to have 5, but one was super dominant and kicked feck into the others.
  10. Aye. . . . there were no druggies or wierdos in the 60's, 70's or 's . . . . . and that's a fact folks
  11. I'm in the same boat dotty, but we can only try. Chances are i will be chasing it over hill and dale. The idea was that the half spaniel would off set the half hound. . . . or something like that. Skycat - Sorry, it's got space now!
  12. Pretty much mate, should be interesting.Although i'm not adverse to a spaniel x terrier if its the right litter. Finding well bred dogs of such breeding though . ... . seems to be a nightmare!
  13. I thought i may as well stick it up here as well! I'm still searching for a good cover dog - ideally a hound x spaniel, from good working parents on both sides. Any help, much appreciated!
  14. I think they also worry the dog will get broken. It's just silly prejudice.
  15. Got open sights on the old HW. Very handy in barns etc in low light and in woodland.
  16. My grandfather kept one that lived in his sock drawer when he lived in India. Killed snakes.
  17. No mate, highly illegal, and you should make it your lifes mission to bring the cads that do so to justice!
  18. THinking of taking the mutt to see a bone man, as he has a niggling minor foot problem, but it has not gone away for months and is possibly tendon related, The vets are next to fecking useless and i've had it with them these days, they dont know much more than me, or google. So any advise on where to take him and roughly how much??? Cheers, Jai.
  19. I'm confused, about what you are confused about?
  20. Aye, letting your dogs have a run about off the lead is really lazy Did you just learn what lazy meant or something, this is your second pointless / dumb thread using the word.
  21. THe swelling is between his outside two toes, where the toes become foot, if that makes sense. It's not swollen that much and as he is black, it doesnt show up on a photo. It's not really causing him any pain to walk on it etc. Any chance of it healing up with sufficient rest? Or is it just one of those things that once it goes, its gone, and he will just have to cope with it? Just wondering about its effect long term on his working / running?
  22. Scot - what i meant mate, is that what we are facing for the large part are a bunch of angry nutters whohave got most of their ideas from watching you tube. Not, some kind of Dr Evil style 'empire of evil' shit. Well there is that, but they aren't reallt the ones sticking bombs on buses etc. At the higher level, i'm a scared of our government as any other, or not even the government, but those who pull the strings. But f**k it let nuclear war and ze end come. Where i live should be ok, i'll just chill out here with my ferrets and start a new civilization, i will start by getting 12 followe
