  1. Then its not a whippet. You really are a miserable b*****d. I think he was showing his small lurcher as the lad who originally posted was asking about small lurchers instead of whippets . . .
  2. I can't work out if that's sarcasm. . . . i'm tired. What I meant. . . is that on such places as the wornderfull world of THL. . . . . some folk look down on the humble whippet and their owners. As in. . . . it's not a proper working running dog. . . . because it ain't a lurcher. . . . . And i didn't say I agreed Lee. I keep lurchers,have owned and worked whippets,i really,really like whippets,id never have another,does that make me a Whippet knocker or a realist?. I don't know mate. . . . and I don't really care I have one of each
  3. I bet bakery products means they use old bread to bulk it out, or similar.
  4. I got mine direct off mb. As has been said, not all lurchers are big. Seen plenty smaller than my whippet. And the same size. And plenty are just used for rabbits. But equally whippets make great bunny dogs, and I that's your game, they will do the job well. Edited to add - I paid a lot less than 500!!! And for ferreting a good whippet is very hard to beat.
  5. No signs of young and only one dig. . . . the ferreting gods must have been smiling on us, as I know there are young about still. . . . N.L - Didnt have a camera so used my i-phone and can't get the fecking things off it! Was gong to head out today, but got side tracked. . . . There's always tomorrow!

  8. Go and find something for it to hunt / chase. . . . see what it does. . . .and report back.
  9. No doubt a few eager folk will end up with some broken dogs. . . .
  10. That was kinda how I went about it . . . . You have to Jai, most of the Whippets you will find on sale, are waay too fragile for me, and there are plenty on here who own them that will confirm that. I struggle to understand why anyone who is looking for a working dog, rules out lurchers cause they want to be a "whippet man" Get the dog that does the job you want, and if thats a whippet, then get a whippet that can stand up to the job. To be honest Rake. . . . I did. . . just 'fancy' a whippet. Which was probably totally illogical. I did my research, spoke to lots of
  11. If it's anything like here. . . . it's going to take a lot of consistent rain to soften anything up . . . .

  13. Apart from a couple of bits in gardens, and sorting out a brace of bunnies last week for that kids camp, our ferreting season proper has not got underway, which is unusual. We're usually out on the 1st of September as a bit of a ritual. But with it being like June, Johnnyboy and I have struggled to get motivated. But with the weather turning a little this weekend, we thought it was time to rectify that. We planned today, to go and check out a couple of new bits of land, and have a wee mooch about some other spots, and gauge what was what. I loaded up Gwen and a pair of jills this morning a
  14. Yes mate, it's a nightmare. But such is life with dogs i suppose. Johnnyboy and I are out tomorrow to check out some new farms, I got some to do Sunday, and we're out Wed on what was a good spot in previous seasons. Should have some decent sport, and we'll have Gwen, Bron and Gem with us. But I will miss the whippet a lot, and he'll be a nightmare left at home. . .
  15. thats spot on, just the sort of thing i needed to hear. I'd say it's an accurate appraisal. . .
  16. Hancock has pups and older dogs available at anytime. Mike doesn't even have a litter every year. Aye he breeds dogs, for money. But he actually charges less than I've seen most other whippets go for. He also doesn't lie about his dogs, and all litters tend to be booked way before they hit the deck.
  17. Pot kettle black! Not everyone is looking for an argument mate..... I was just giving my opinion.
  18. This is just a guess. And I may be way off the mark here.... But I reckon he's after a whippet stud. If I had to have a gamble. I would say he was after one in the west Wales area... Edited to add I'm only pulling your leg mate. I couldn't resist. I got that. . . . I meant more a long the lines, of what does he want to add to the bitch, is it for another whippet, for a lurcher? Is he racing, or working it? Is he looking to add pace, stamina, bone, size? Does he want a big strapping 22" dog, or would be rather an 18" speed machine? etc. . . . . .
  19. It's funny, whenever someone asks or talks about Mike Browns whippets. . . . . . there are always the same folk desperate to point out that they are not the be all and end all, that there are other good lines etc out there. Isn't that pretty damn obvious? Same as any breed or x of dog, there are always more than one person, who can manage to breed some handy specimens of that breed or x. As for speed, size, weight etc. While some folk may not like the bigger whippets, they suit others down to the ground. I know that my dog is bigger than a lot of whippets, and probably slower than a lot as
  20. Measured him the other day, he's about 22". And normally weighs about 40lb fit. Although he's a fat b*****d at the moment, with being laid up. I'd love to see what came out of Finn and Keith's nell, but alas no.... I was hoping to test him hard again this year and then put him to a small lurcher after this winter or the next, but I'm going to have to wait and see how his injury pans out, if he comes good, and if so how long he's off for.... But I genuinely think he has something to add to a lurcher. I'd love to put him across a half x collie / grey.
