  1. Lurcher x lurched with a dose of collie. Yer beast she loves getting out and about.
  2. He's brother to my bitch ray :-)
  3. Aye I think you might be right mate.... No idea where that came from ;-)
  4. Looking good mate, he's a cracking pup. Really strong and bold.
  5. Cheers all, the dogs doing nowt for six weeks at least, and will be going to see the bone man and a specialist vet soon.
  6. She was done for parvovirus and distemper at 7, and again at 9 with the all round one, she'll be in a week with the all round one again. I'm not taking her out where other folk go, and the hill was bone dry. :-)
  7. She's a credit to you mate, she was very well reared and socialized, she's been easy to have here. Hopefully i'll do her proud
  8. I know that feeling mate got a couple of farms myself to go on but not much on there ...seems its easy to get permission when theres hardly any game about... Aye I know what you mean. . . . . but when I first had this land, there was a lot more game I'm lucky, i can walk for miles from my house in any direction and pretty much be on permission. It's handy, and there is still enough about to make my daily walks interesting and get some sport. . .
  9. Cheers lads Paul - aye. it's not bad, not so much game though, but it's all permission.
  10. Took the pup out in the sun today, for a wander in the fields around the house. Starting to get her used to sheep now, and gates etc. She's a bright wee thing and real easy company. 10 weeks now.
  11. thats so true and it really fck me off why have ferrets if you only look after them part time would you run about in your sh!t the nead cleaned evry day That's bollocks. They don't need to be cleaned every day, it depends how you house them. My thoughts entirely. Mine are in a 7 x 5 court and shit in 2 corners. Could leave them a fortnight and they wouldnt be treading in it. Obviously I dont, I clean them every other day or every third day. Aye mate, I have 5 jills in a court that is I think 10 foot long by 4.5 foot wide, and 5 foot tall. . . . . . they shit in the far corner
  12. No. . . . and that's where i'm going next, a long with a trip to the bone man. I'm pretty much willing to travel where ever I have to. . . . . so if you have any advice or suggestions on a good specialist vet, i'd really appreciate it. . . . . . .
  13. Cheers for the advice. Basically, it's the outer toe, on the inside of the front foot. Swollen at both joints. Been like it for a good month and a half probably. Went down initially after a week or so rest, then first time out, he knocked a bunny out and ran it, caught it and came back bleeding from nail bed. Rested him for a couple more weeks, and had the same again. Now hes on an enforced 6 week ban from running (although he;s a f****r for trying to play with the pup in the house). . . . . but the vet recons it might be tendon damage or whatever. . . . .and may never come good enough
  14. Cheers Jai. I've seen some belting bushe's over the years.. i prefer a nice trimmed lady garden these days...lol Aye, I'm looking for a lass with alopecia from the neck down. . . . That wee thing seems to have thrown to the cocker, be interesting to see what shape it takes. . .
  15. Depends how many runs you are getting as well. We go to a place up north where the dog is working from 7/8 am until dark, about 5/6 pm, so that's up to about 11 hours. I wouldn't normally count day work the same, but the amount the dog puts up and runs and are bolted for the dog to run, is probably greater than a lot of folk see on the lamp, with constant hunting inbetween. Also the land is very rough and steep.

  18. I was wondering if anyone had any experience of having a dogs toe amputated and how it was to heal / recover and how it affected the dogs performance after? Cheers.
  19. It IS nice to have a walk without having to look over your shoulder, as much as it may make it less 'hardcore' . . . . for some of our more pea brained members
  20. I do know the difference between walking and trotting a dog fit compared. I've never looked at it as lamping fit as most do. The way I look at it is if my bitch is fit & putting game in the bag & working well then i'm a happy bunny. I'm out everyday first thing in the morning & then i'm back out in the evening to it get dark having a mooch around. I had a call from one the farmers that I have permission on asking me to sort the rabbits out which I did cuz I don't want to lose it!! I been sorting them by long netting, snaring & lamping with my dog so far i've took over 70 all so
  21. No you don't. There is a big difference in the fitness required for ferreting, mooching about, general fitness and the kind I fitness needed for a lot of lamping. I've got to agree with ideation ...............rabbitng man have you ever played any sport it's the same as match fitness Also to look at it like this - my old man is pretty fit, he could walk around the park all day, helps me on the shoot fine etc etc. But get him playing a couple of games of squash on the trot and hes f****d!
