So you dont bother gutting your rabbits in the field ? Its ok carrying them with guts still in if youve only got 1 or 2 but when you start catching a few it all helps bring the wieght down and preserve the qaulity of the meat. The only trouble with feeding rabbit with fur on is when the dog is left in the boot with a few and he eats them. Me and another member off this site were out a couple of weeks ago and we left some bunnys in the car with a lurcher pup. By the time we came back she mustve eaten her wieght in rabbit !!!

I like a dog to hit cover like theres nothing there. Not only is this more exciting to watch it will catch more rabbits as most hit cover and just sit there. But theres more chance of injury.

depend entirely on several factors, how well its entered, the man behind it, and it could just come plain down to if the dog wants to or not, if it dont, it wont, and i am not having a dig at collie x's, but there is more specialized crosses out there for foxes The only factors it depends on are whether or not the dog has it or not. No matter how you enter them or how long you hold them back the dogs that have it have it. But most dogs wouldve taken the odd fox you bump into.

some of the best fox dogs i seen had deerhound in them. THE best fox dog ive ever seen had deerhound in its makeup. The second best ive ever seen was a staff/whippet/greyhound. It all depends on the dog but most will take the odd fox. And ive heard of a few people that prefer collie crosses because of the land they work they need a dog that will get out and find there runs. Ive never had a problem the ferrets seem to just want to get on and work same as the dogs ....

I give my dogs raw rabbit with head feet and pelt still on most of the time. Dont bother boiling it unless its been shot to take the lead out.

Surely a headshot rabbit is just as edible whether its shot with a .22lr or a 308 ? Thats if you only want a couple for the pot ?

hows the season started off for everyone ??
fitchet replied to jcm's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
My seasons started bad with both my dogs getting injured. But as soon as they healed up they have done well so far and i have picked up a load of permission. Its gearing up to be one of my best seasons yet. -
The owner needs to consider his options i personally would never terminate a litter due to the fact you may get pups that are deformed. If you had the right ground they could be handy little mutts. Atb with whatever is decided.

I personally think its down to a dogs instinct withdeer and fox (pre-ban) ive seen dogs leave a rabbit and go on to deer. I think its because deer represent a good investment in energy used compared to what energy they get back from the kill who knows ? As for fox i think dogs are keen on them for the same reason wild wolves kill coyotes and leave them. Does the dog run after the rabbit if it jumps ?

dark ages and witchcraft are back , stick with known medicines and your only in preston i will give you some if you ask I think it was more for putting in the nest boxes to kill mites, but some do use it for worming fowl, not sure if it works, but some swear by it. They chew it up to about a pea sized ball, and give it to there fowl, they reckon its the nicotine that kills the worm's. I have always used ivomec, by using an eye drop, i administer a drop under each wing, one at the base of the neck, and one above the vent, kills worms, lice and mites. My grandad once told me that the

I just take my lamp, battery, dog, knife, blue nylon string, and a bag for game, filters, and water for the dog. Nothing else is needed apart from a handfull of soda crystals incase the dog swallows sommat.

Exactly dogs need rest just as much as they need work. Muscle fibres tear and joints need time to recover. Alot of people talk about keeping a dog fit and conditioned constantley. This just aint good for the dog. In the summer my dogs get double the food they get through the season. Most people keep there dogs fit and feed down all year round ....

Like the pic of trakker as a pup mate.

I hadn't thought of that! I haven't seen any up top on that farm but there are a lot of foxes around there so they probably get snapped up pretty much straight away. That would make sense actually because the dog would mark, the jill would go down for 10 mins or so and then come back out, and as I'm picking the nets up the dog is still marking the warren. I've had quite a few rabbits out of there in the past week and none of them have shown any signs of mixi though Or could be vhd rabbits dead in holes and the ferrets ragging them getting bored and moving ? If it happens again get the

The false marking is Probabley due to mixy rabbits in the sets mate. The ferrets kill them so quick they soon lose interest.

border x russell pup wont drink

Get him to a vet mate. -
You dont need to rub them down just a steady walk after trotting is enough.
-
Wtf ? Seriously mate read that and think about what youve wrote. I personally like to have a good salection of filters. It could mean the difference between catching a poultry killer or not. Especially on keepered land an amber or green filter can make a real diference. ATB

In this country i dont think a ferret would last more than a month. Theres roads predaters gamekeepers cold weather and ticks.

Bloody hell theres a fair few who run there dogs behind the bike on here. I used to do it aswell as running them beside the motor but tbh never really found much difference with the exception of hare dogs). Aslong as they get plenty of excersise on varying ground plenty of rest and good qaulity food there should be no problem.atb
