I loved seeing a good dog after deer no matter what the species. Ironic really that out of all the deer ive ran the smallest is the only one thats given my dogs any serious injuries. The best run ive ever seen was on a nice roebuck around mid april. The dust flying up behind them and the sound of the dogs feet smashing the rock hard cround still makes me cringe but its something ill never forget. These days im my area the muntjac have outnumbered the roe by far. I do abit on an old railway bank and the deer often get stuck in the metal fencing. There a pain in the arse when out bram

Seems more folks are interested since the ban. As for the lamb thing depends on the land and circumstances. Foxes were always better pre ban for my money. The game dealer don't buy them though lol. Then again never been much in the way of deer around here aside the odd muntjac lol. Karpman muntjack are like bloodey rabbits mate, breed all year around after 8 months old, Muntjac dont breed all year round mate.

Nice one mate. I never used to think much of whippets but ive seen a few work and theyve proved me wrong. Next dog i get will have to be 3/4 whippet 1/4 terrier. Have you tried her on the lamp ?

I remember when i first started ferreting there where a few rockpiles on my permission never had longnets and my dog wernt much cop. Used to net there nearest warrens and try and backnet em. Like you said gets you thinking outside the box. Even tried propping up purse nets with sticks in the holes in rabbit proof fencing lol.

Sorry to hear that mate hope you get your stuff back. Did they take all your ferrets ? -
One of my dogs is a b*****d for cats looks under every car we go past and the amount of times ive found him under a tree howling and yapping at moggies. I personnally wouldnt intetionally let my dogs kill a cat feral or not. If there are ferals that need controling its job for a rifle or trap imo.

Sorry mate but disagree with you there. A dog that gives 100% is allways gonna run the risk of not reaching retirement. Thats allpart of the game. Dogs that are not afraid of cover are supior to dogs that wont face it. End of. Its all upto personal choice but i dont go lamping to lose rabbits that have reached cover. ATB you must of lost a good few dogs then mate a dog thats clever and knows its job will give 100% but not kill its self its no good with a hedge smasher and losing it to a hedge i dont go lamping to lose a dog i go to catch rabbits atb Never lost a dog while out lamping

Kelpie x greyhound, pictures and opinions on this cross
fitchet replied to JoePadge's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
You have the advantage of getting proper working kelpie stock though , not sure if there is much working kelpie stock over here or if the show men have them I know one landowner with a working kelpie nice dog why dont people use them more for herding and farmwork ? and its a real good gaurd dog. -

I used to ferret under some stables with good results. Just do them early in the day so if the ferret gets one in a stop youve got plenty of time to wait. ATB

The prettiest fish in this country is a linear in full winter colours. My mate had one yesterday was a proper stunner. Spicy sausage sounds good im on snowberry from blakes ATM with custom rolled hookbaits. Weve only been using it for a fortnight and its claimed 4 different thirties aswell as a few 20s.

So you dont bother gutting your rabbits in the field ? Its ok carrying them with guts still in if youve only got 1 or 2 but when you start catching a few it all helps bring the wieght down and preserve the qaulity of the meat. The only trouble with feeding rabbit with fur on is when the dog is left in the boot with a few and he eats them. Me and another member off this site were out a couple of weeks ago and we left some bunnys in the car with a lurcher pup. By the time we came back she mustve eaten her wieght in rabbit !!! nope dont gut them in the field as a good night on the rabbits
