  1. Stick it in the bank and you'd only get 25 grand a year to live on. Spend it and it would run out soon enough. Not sure that's enough to retire on early if you still have a mortgage and kids and want to just live on teh interest. You'd have to stick it in a managed fund with all the risks that come with it.

  9. Each planet will have huge resources of metals. Also and more importantly is finding a supply of water and hydrocarbons (oil). It is certain that there was water on Mars so the question is whether it supported life. It's possible there is oil on Mars although so far unlikely.
  10. Hard to say BH. The papers are saying there was a marked increase from 2005 but you can read anything in to that, probably that's when they started collecting data.

    Insurance

Seems like insurance has gone down this year, for the first time I can remember my quote for Feb is going to be less than the previous year. 41 years old, not had a point for 14 years, not had a claim for even longer and don't drive to work (restricted mileage) and last year it was still 460 quid
  14. They're just the kind of people that know full well they don't do anything useful so spend most of the day generating paperwork. I wouldn't mind if they actually got involved in the more dangerous operations to make sure they went safely but when ever the crane is out or things getting offloaded they're never to be seen because they're typing in all the useless safety crap in to their computer. We used to have to do these STOP cards, basically we were expected to have to make observations of unsafe acts (doing their jobs for them) and because it was a load of crap and we were forced to do
  15. When I worked on the rigs in the North Sea we used to get safety audits all the time because it was warm and dry in our cabin and they didn't have to deal with the p**staking from the roughnecks and roustabouts. Worked on a Shell rig where they decided to ban all knives, they confiscated everything like leathermans etc. We used to have to splice paper logs together and we we forced to have to go to the companyman to ask for a 'cutting tool' every time we wanted to do this. When someone was spotted cutting a bread roll towards his hand with a bread knife they put out a tannoy saying if this
  16. I wouldn't trust the human food industry as far as I could throw it and that is supposed to be regulated. The dog food industry isn't regulated at all so just because the absolute values of protein, fat etc sound right there is no way to tell what exactly those fats and proteins are. The skinners my dog was on was costing £25 a month and so far it looks like the raw will cost around £15 so I'm saving money and know exactly what the mutt is eatting. Also the smaller stools are so much easier to pick up and deal with bonus!
  17. Wonder if some kind of heat relief would be better. You can get knee supports that you put in the microwave and then wear over joints which are supposed to be pretty good. If cold sets it off might be worth looking in to.
  18. Do you know it is arthritis? I thought the copper bracelets were only for that. Might have an issue with you cartilage or ligaments that could be fixed with keyhole surgery.
  19. Think there's a lot of info on this site about making Jerky. Also there's a good smoking post in the cooking on the wildeside section above. I think the potted meat should last a couple of months at least.
  20. What's the odds the law will come crashing down on them ten times heavier than the other lot.
