  1. Took Fishdaughter out and shot a mess of dove last weekend. Methinks you lot might like this for your pigeon. The ingredients speak for themselves. Cream cheese in the tub. Those are hearts seasoned with a little fajita spices. Grilled. Cheers, Mark
  2. When Fishdaughter was very young, she was "helping" me clean a big striped bass. A halfdozen shad came out of the stomach and she squealed "babies!" as she ran off with a fistfull to show her grandmother. Shortly thereafter she was introduced to the concept of bait. Cheers, Mark
  3. Kiwi brand mink oil. Makes leather soft, supple and waterproof.

  5. Go here: Remington brochures Download "Remington Guide to Shotguns" Explains most variables affecting shotgun range (i.e. chokes, shell size/charge, shot size etc...). Cheers, Mark
  6. A big cowboy stopped at a local restaurant following a day of drinking and roaming around in Mexico. While sipping his tequila, he noticed a sizzling, scrumptious looking platter being served at the next table. Not only did it look good, but the smell was wonderful.. He asked the waiter, "What is that you just served?" The waiter replied, "Ah Senor, you have excellent taste! Those are bull's testicles from the bullfight this morning. A delicacy!" The cowboy, undaunted, said, "What the heck, I'm on vacation, I'll have some!" The waiter replied, "I am so sorry Senor. There is only one se
  7. Couple good ideas here: portable ladder stands
  8. Thermacell Lots of bowhunters round these parts use'em and have deer and hogs come within a few yards without spooking at any smell. Cheers, Mark

  11. Fishslayer what lines is your bitch from? Looks just like Kye's bitch Tor Howdy Tiff, February 2007. One of Fishwife's co-workers found a pile of newborn puppies under her car in an apartment complex in Dallas. Only one was still alive. Don't know anything about his breeding. Nothing came of flyers or from the apartment manager. We hand-raised him. Didn't know if he was a poodle, possum or pitbull. Grew into this hairy mutt. Acts like a bitch sometimes but really is a dog (minus his manly bits now). I hunt, but don't know anything about hunting with dogs. I'm here to learn.
  12. Stain. When you are practicing recall in the park you can yell out "COME STAIN"!
  13. I've really enjoyed the stories and pics on this thread! I know SFA about hunting with dogs. This is Grendel, my American Snakehound. Cheers, Mark
  14. Here's his coffin. Already had his name on it.
  15. Rhythmic activity, heart beating, breathing, locomotion, are controlled by groups of pacemaker cells/neurons in various anatomical locations. Hearts continue to beat even when removed from the body. It's these intrinsic pacemakers which make heart transplants possible. Locomotory pacemakers are in the spinal cord. Even after the "thinking bits" have been removed, a head-less animal is still capable of fairly complex locomotory behavoirs. The heart and lungs can keep the body functioning for a while. Still freaks me out even though I understand it. Cheers, Mark
  16. Fishdaughter's first deer. Learning to butcher with a friend's son.
  17. How to catch catfish with my bare hands. How to make a toothpick out of a boar coon.
  18. That is some great music. I really enjoyed listening to those tunes. Thanks for sharing. Cheers, Mark
  19. What Martin said. I've got a Buck Zipper and it slices through the cartilage on either side of the sternum, on axis and whitetails, like butter. Its the pelvis thats tough to split. Cheers, Mark
  20. I was living in Vancouver in 1988 when that report of two cities was published. Having moved there from Dallas in 1986, it gave me quite the chuckle. I like having the right to defend myself and family with deadly force if the need arises and sleep well knowing that I am protected by law..."Castle Law" a bit of Old English jurisprudence we've embraced. Texas Castle Law It's not for everyone and I respect that. Cheers, Mark
  21. Swat a fly. Pull a weed. Take an antibiotic. Life is life is life. Does being warm and fuzzy denote some special status?
  22. Lighter is not always better. I agree with Sage, that fit is most important. Try out as many configurations as possible. I have two Remington 870's - a synthetic stock 12 (heavy) and a wood stock 20 (light). The 20 kicks like a mule. I'm also a fan of interchangeable chokes so that you can adapt to various game/range/loads. Cheers, Mark
