  1. Yes! Excellent way to access waters that shore-bound and motor boat anglers cannot. Good for float trips and camping. Cheers, Mark
  2. Those are some really good pics.....for a hoser! Glad to see you and the sprogs thriving. Cheers, Mark
  3. Stain. When you're out training him you can call out, "Come Stain!"
  4. I am licensed to carry a concealed handgun and do so every day. They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. -Benjamin Franklin
  5. Congratulations. Your family will dine well this season!
  6. 10 pages of lively discussion: .223 - Deer Hunting Round
  7. Damn, that sounds good! I will definately try that recipe out this week.
  8. Wood pigeon are a relative to our dove. This is the traditional way we do dove round our parts. A previous post in this forum: jalepeno, cheese, onion, bacon wrapped dove Night before last I used this recipe: dove in madeira sauce A bit labor intensive but unbelievably good! I used 1/2 the recommended amount of butter. The second half of our split dove season has just started and I hope to get a few more. Cheers, Mark
  9. Hope your new rifle shoots as good as it looks! Can you get a matching bayonet?
  10. Those are very nice pics. Enjoy these innocent times while you can. Before you know it you're standing around a campfire with your little angel, drinking beers and discussing the best method to gut a deer. Cheers, Mark
  11. Thanks for everyone's kind comments. I very much enjoy reading your accounts of deer hunts and seeing the pics. Corn feeder used to bait them in for selective/humane harvest. Illegal in some areas of TX and other states. We stuff a 20lb bag of ice in the body cavity and wrap'em in a tarp until we get to the processor. A couple things: 1. This hunt was more about management and meat than sporting. We've got a lot of deer here. The farmer down the road has two miles of deer fencing to keep them out of his wheat and cotton. My annual hunting/fishing license ($68) allows
  12. A lot of those old military rifles are really a nice piece of history. You hold it and wonder about where it's been and about the soldier using it to defend your country. What are you going to use it for? Post a pic for us. Cheers, Mark
  13. Olympic Arms AR15 - 5.56 NATO Remington 788 - .243 Remington 700 - .308
  14. Dine well! A similar scene will be unfolding here in the colonies.
  15. Fishdaughter and I go on a couple hunts each year. These were from last weekend. A little more than 100 yards from her blind. She does her own field dressing. Deer weighed 125 lbs. You can see the exit hole there behind the shoulder. Entrance (left), exit (right). .243 is a very good deer round. 100 grain Remington Core-Lokt. It was a very successful weekend. Cheers, Mark
  16. New additions: M96 Swedish mauser (1912) in 6.5x55. Remington 700 Special Varmint in .308 topped with Leuopold 4-12x40. Headed to South Texas with both rifles next weekend to a private ranch for a chance at a whitetail buck and doe. Cheers, Mark
  17. How about these choices: Marlin lever action .410 Saiga 12 ga semiauto Safir Arms AR 15 .410 Cheers, Mark
  18. Fishdaughter has been shooting .243 since age 15. It works. (Remington model 788 w/Leuopold 3-9X scope) The 7mm.08 has an excellent reputation. The .243 offers more variety of bullet weights, is more available and (for practice) is cheaper to shoot. Let us know what you end up with. You really cannot go too far wrong with most modern firearms. Cheers, Mark
  19. Hey man, I'm in Arlington. I hunt, but don't know much about doing it with dogs. Got a lurcher (pet) but do most of our running about in the dog parks. PM me. I'm off on a Brazos float trip this weekend but would like to meet up as I don't know anyone round here that hunts with dogs. Cheers, Mark
  20. Enjoyed those pics. Been wanting to go to the Loomis event. Thayer is this weekend but I just don't have the time. Perhaps next year. Cheers, Mark
  21. Romany52 got it right. Independent segregation of chromosomes (Mendel's 2nd law of inheritance) is random. A 50/50 cross could produce gametes (eggs or sperm) 100% maternal, 100% paternal or any percentage in between. The percentage cross is not predictable and is not maintained through generations. Anything past a 1st cross is a total crap-shoot. Cheers, Mark
  22. An old one, but I still pee myself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eejOVDd6I7c
