  1. troutfly is spot on 21 long by 15 wide will give you a 3'6" net but you won't get many from a kit unless you shape the net . ATB
  2. Yes mate...one alternative is to buy bright yellow nets from me...pm me or as you are a net maker, contact agouti who sells spun poly in various colours at a very reasonable price (£7.50 I think) ATB
  3. I get pleny of bad luck without the help of any black rabbits ATB
  4. Thats how we all did it when I was a lad, in the middle of the last century. kin hell I feel old. Yeah, me too
  5. That takes me back, when I was a kid there was an old lad in our village (Essex) who had a huge pocket sewn into his coat just like yours . He seemed to keep everything in it including ,ocassioanaly, his ferets which if I remember correctly were nasty little Thanks for the memory, mate ATB
  6. Any reason you dont work them? Sorry mate I was a bit slow there Most of my ferreting is finishing up now anyway - there weather is cr5p - the jills aren't in season yet but by the time they 'come in' ferreting will be finished altogether so it's more to do with timing than anything elseand I don't like summer time ferreting - to much like hard work ATB
  7. Only one of my hobs hasn't been castrated going to get him vasectomised instead to look after my two jills which aren't in season yet . But generally speaking I don't work them when they're in season . ATB
  8. Yep, good luck mate . Perhaps a few pics when you've done ? ATB
  9. Hullo mate, yes no problem with sheet netting from Brian Brinded In fact most commercially made long nets and purse nets are made from this stuff ATB
  10. Never had a fox in my nets but I have had a hedgehog....what a ATB

    Help?

I wouldn't go to the expense of leaded foot lines either but i use quick set nets where both lines are attached to the pegs so leaded lines are unnecessary . I set up my own nets and fitted pegs at around eight yards which seems to work well for me . ATB
  12. £25 posted is cheap, probably wouldn't cost a lot less to make one . Simon Whitehead sells good boxes about the same price but you would have to catch him at a game fair ATB
  13. That's a very generous offer mate, I think you deserve a Brownie point for that
  14. Interesting how peoples experiences differ, I've been long netting for over twenty years now and honestly can't remember a running line ever being chewed through . I can see the problem with hanking a 3mm line onto an end pin though, but I use a quick set basket ATB
  15. Locator collar is compulsory dress for my ferrets, I won't work my ferrets without a locator, why take the risk ?
  16. Go to the site Giuld of British Mole Catchers they have a help section to put prospective customers in touch with experienced mole catchers ATB
  17. I use 3mm never had a problem with lines wearing or being bitten through I suppose you can use whar you're comfortable with ATB
  18. I'll be getting round the game fairs doing judging and PR with the ferrets & selling me nets & coarse fishing ATB
  19. Looks good from here, well done
  20. Well done mate, good pics, nice country and a good bag as well
  21. Apart from when I was netting traditional style I've only ever used the Brinded quickset system and I've got to say that's probably as good as your going to get . Having said that it's worth trawling through old posts I'm sure I see a lad making these baskets and they were pretty good and cheap . As for the net I'd go for a 6z and buy a quick set style ready set up or a trad. net and set it up yourself (instructions at the top of this forum) where to buy Net Loft, Arthur Carters, Ian Hodge, Brinded, Bridport the list is endless Net Loft Brinded and Bridport are pretty good tho. ATB
  22. I'd go for a box every time - ferrets are safer, warmer and dryer and you've always got something to sit on . Nowadays you can get small bow backed boxes for the occassional afternoons mooch right up to the larger jobs for a days graft . I always make my own but I'm seriously tempted by one of those so called poachers boxes for the odd couple of hours with a few nets in my pocket. ATB
  23. Good advice that, mate Take your time it always comes right in the end it's just that some ferrets are slower on the up take than others, that's all . ATB
