  1. I used to use dried rice to clean mine , now I use a bottle brush. Have the same problem with them going green tho and the cages are in a shed Two bottles per cage change them morning and night seems to be the only way to keep them clean and stop them freezing/becoming tepid (in summer) ATB

  4. I'm with tiercel with the rubber bands, I know they're a bit Fred J Taylor but they've worked for me for about the same amount of time .I'm not strictly opposed to bright coloured nets, just don't like 'em - old fashioned I suppose . I make and sell a lot of purse nets, bright yella as well but I would worry about the ferreter that asked for pink nets ATB
  5. Got a question here lads (before a punchup starts ) If hemp is as someone says the devils twine and I've also seen it described as farmers twine can someone please tell me why so many people buy and use and insist on nothing else but hemp purse nets ATB
  6. You need to find your local ferret welfare society mate they'll know a good ferret vet in your area - I'm not sure if North Notts Ferrets are still going - just google ferret welfare societies there's loads of them . ATB
  7. To tell the truth Daveo you are going to have to buy a spool of whatever you choose suppliers don't usually sell it in less than a spool and probably 50 or 100yds of drawstring too but rings can be bought singly if you wanted just one the real killer is the postage by the time you've bought spool, drawstring and rings plus postage you're going to be paying the thick end of twenty quid anyway...I'd go for the kit if I was you and don't worry about this hemp vs flax business too many people buy and use this sttuff for it to be THAT bad ATB There you go mate get onto Agouti straight a
  8. Excellent post mate, very good pics . That's more or less how the pro net makers (Liam Brinded,Bridport etc) make 'em . Personally, I can't be bothered to do them myself and just buy ready made longnets and set them up on fibre glass pegs for quickset . But for anyone just starting that's first rate advice, well done .

  12. Hi C K you need to get yourself a copy of Howard Glynn's Net Making for Sport it's one of the best books on net making and inexpensive too > It is ,I thnk, out of print but most of the countrysports books sellers seem to stock it still ATB
  13. Don't worry they'll get used to it in time...ALL my ferrets are rescues...I've had pets, show ferrets the lot and they all work eventually...it's just a matter of time and patience...good luck
  14. Well done mate....according to your measurements (hole = cylinder, 9ft wide, 6ft deep = 1 fecked ferreter)
  15. I make and sell loads of 10z nets cut from sheet netting (3 1/2 foot £1 each) they're very popular because they're cheap, maintenance free and they work as well as almost any other net . The letter z means that you should multiply the first figure by ten to get the breaking strain of the material i.e 4z is 40lb 6z is 60lb and so on. In the case of purse nets providing it's strong enough the breaking strain doesn't matter, it's the thickness of the material that counts and 10z is no thicker that spun poly or even four ply hemp . But it is limp, doesn't move in the wind and doesn't collect s
  16. I feed complete cat food, my ferrets seem to get fed up with complete ferret but always eat the cat stuff...I always give 'em meat in the evening when there are fewer flies
  17. Sorry about your loss mate, there really are some shite bags about hope you catch up with them!
  18. I think netriggers right, you'd be better of with spun poly or spun nylon 6Z twine must be double knotted and it's murder on your fingers . If I had to make a net from 6Z I'd buy a sheet and cut the net from that (I make and sell loads of purse nets made like this) sounds like cheating (well it is) but it'll work just as well as a hand tied 6Z net atb
  19. A disgraceful display of blatant racism, shouldn't be allowed !!!!
  20. 3' 6" for me I make all my own..got a few 4' but don't use them much just that bit too long...certainly wouldn't start out with 4' will cost you a f**king fortune !!! In a few weeks I'll be selling a few nets watch out in the for sale/wanted/swap section
  21. It sounds like he hasn't worked before mate, so you've got to give it the benifit of the doubt . If it's any consolation all my ferrets are rescues and some, most in fact come from pet homes some pick it up quicker than others...to be fair you've got to give it a season at least then if he still doesn't work give him to a pet home but all mine came round eventually.....it just drives you nuts getting there Don't ever let yourself run out of nets even if you only keep one or two in your pocket...you can bet your life that while you're standing there untangling a net rabbits will stream o
