So far, I have really enjoyed reading all your different opinions. No body knows everything, and certainly not without prior experience be that on the job, the written word or just advice from others.....theres always something crops up that you didnt know. Anyone who thinks they just naturally know whats what is deluded IMHO So I will continue to read all your good input and hopefully a few of you will teach me something new along the way.

Why do we train Lurchers and various other types early in their life and yet not train gundogs or manwork dogs until later in their life?.........

My kids have been around all these things since they were babies....my girls were helping to gut rabbits at 2 and my boy was elbow deep in gralloch at 18 months.....its normal to us and I never made any type of deal about it, so its no big thing to them either. As I explained to them, its more "weird" to eat iradiated food that comes in plastic bags than it is to kill, gut and skin game.

Given the fact that the farmer gets the grass and it needs to be kept in good condition for him, coupled with the fact that its really not that big, I would say the best thing is to give him a token rent every year and use the barn and land for your own enjoyment......maybe keep a few animals, grow a bit of veg, put some birds down for yourself......that type of thing. Put some artificials in for wildlife purposes....just enjoy it. If in theory you could do as you like, then I would have it as a horse retirement place .......
