  1. Thats a fine looking animal del, whats his form like,,
  2. Hows the pup bred, collie, whippet or what, Will she pick up at all, or is it the action of putting her teeth into something that she wont do, work on her conifidence, get her something to tug on , a furry toy or tug toy, encourage her to bite and tug on it, its the biting action that she is withholding,, think about a timid dog , not wanting to do any harm, she needs to learn to let go a little, Dont whatever you do , go anywhere near rats with that bitch,, best of luck,,
  3. wouldn't worry too much about it , might disappear as quick as it arrived, my terrier was the same,,
  4. The main reason i wouldn't put a young dog to stud even if he's shit hot, is because once he gets a taste for it , he becomes a right pain in the arse after, looking for bitches, if hes never had it , he dont know what he's missing,,i would only use him for stud when , he's proven , and alot more settled in himself which usually comes with age,, 4 or 5 if ya want a number
  5. If you've told the pup off for shitting somewhere before, he going to remember that, maybe hes shitting in a place he thinks is safe from you, the thing is to make it worthwhile for him to shit else where, if you can keep him out long enough to treat him for shitting in the right place , he'll soon cop on ,,pups can be a pain in the f*****g arse, whatever you do stick with it , you'll get there in the end, best of luck,,
  6. Well daryl, i got a feeling , your gonna fit right in here young man,,best of luck,,
  7. Balance is the key, a working dog needs a balanced diet not excesses one way or another,, the canine body has a marvelous escape chanel for what is termed excesses,, too much protein and the body converts it to nitogen waste and eliminates it in its urine,, other signs of excesses in the diet are runny eyes or tear stains, extreme shedding and itchy skin, chewing its feet is another one, So its not just the physical appearance of the animal , look for other signs as well , a chubby pup does not mean a bad diet, ,A full protein diet can produce fast growth in bone . which can leave the rest of
  8. I'll second that,,sounds like its just a phase you were going through,,
  9. Puppy fat is just a phrase, its just that pups are conditioned to eat huge amounts of grub, its in there nature, its whether they get a chance to balance that intake with exercise , if not , you'll get a pup carrying a bit, walking on its own wont shift it , playing and free running with another pup and work will burn up huge reserves of fat, in saying that its completly natural for a pup to be carrying a bit at that age , i would go as far as say, well done sounds like you've done a good job with the pup,,best of luck with her,,
  10. Bud you've loads and loads of time, give your head peace and dont worry bout it,,in saying that what are ya doing with the dummy when its retrieved,, if your taking it off her , she'll cop on sharp to hold on to it,,you need to make it worth her while to bring it back,,
  11. Not sure when all those fractions arrived into the lurcher world, never heard of it before till this site, wrecks my f*****g head, like bloody stamp collecting fitting everything in its correct order, seems lads just wont except ,,its a collie lurcher or its saluki with a bit of bull in there,,half bred or 3/4 is straight forward enough,,anything else is stamp collecting,,,There are no surefire fractions in the animal world, you pay your money and you make your choice, after that its 100% up to you,,
  12. Bitch wont piss on the ferret box soon as you put it down,, in all honesty,, depends what else you have kenneled too and how you can manage that situation,,and if i have a choice , the drive in the animal, dog or bitch dont matter what sex,,
  13. Shes big into the raw stuff because nothing else tastes as good, think bout it, if you were fed steak all the time you wouldn't really want to eat dried shite instead, hunger is the best sauce, she'll eat if shes hungry, it all depends who breaks first,,you or her, best of luck,,
  14. What would you class as a game dog? and why would they be on the other side of the pond and not this? So your saying its impossible to have game dogs here because we dont have the stuff to test them? Id go as far as saying, your the one who hasnt got a clue, sorry Thats not aimed at you bud,,when i said in all honesty they havent got a clue, if their dog is game or not,
  15. I know what your saying Dan, but im talking about GAME dogs here ok (not mine). Now, I work running dogs myself have done all my life of various breeding. I enter them based on the individual dog, I try to show them a good taste of what their life will be about by about 10-12 months old, after this first time I will decide wether or not the dog will need holding back or seeing a bit more. I run various game, and like an all round lurcher, some fail to make my standard, but im prepared to wait until 2 possibly even 3 for the finished article if I belive its in the dog. I wouldnt call any of my
  16. dont worry yourself bout it, craig, he's just not ready, bide your time, he'll come good, its the movement of prey that motivates the chase, dead rabbits dont do it, Have a certain word or sound to use for sending the dog like in a retrieve , he'll figure it out, seen pics of him on here , he certainly looks the part, best of luck,,
  17. i cant claim i have much knowledge , but what do you want the dog to do, it sounds a bit heavy for an all rounder ,good luck with it,,
  18. 100%, if your not happy with her , why breed from her,,You'll pick up a pup handy now and you dont have to wait for the bitch to come, after you've found the right dog, talking f*****g years before a pup from your bitch will work properly,,pick a pup now and it might be doing a bit at the end of this winter,,
  19. i can understand a pup jacking after taking a hammering if started a bit too young on certain quarry, but there are running dogs out there , who were probably entered a bit young , took a bit of stick first time out and probably didn't look that promising , who then went on to excell in the game, In Saying that, I believe that some dogs will either do, certain quarry, or not , whatever the initial encounter was like, ??, Any experiences for or against this argument,,
  20. The more work they get , the cleverer they seem, that includes the chase, every dog is different , some learn to pick quick , usually explosive fast dogs,, some will sit tight and put pressure on nearer the hedge , forcing bunnies to try to get in somewhere it cant, had a bitch before, caught most in the hedge not outside. Your probably hyper when your out the bitch, chill out a bit , she'll be picking up on that as well, do you lamp, lamping is the easiest way of developing a dog who figures out the way a rabbit runs
  21. The ad reflects the mentality of the magazine, its for easy influenced people with little or no experience in the field,
  22. Lash the food into her, 4 - 7 months are very important for growth in a pup, if their underweight during this period , they may not reach their full potential,,
  23. If he keeps wanting to play,, use that to help with the recall , if everytime he comes to you , play with him for a while,,, sounds like a high energy dog, you can put it to use, take a look online on how service dogs are trained, most of them work just to play , it makes high drive dogs very motivated to learn,,
  24. Thanks poacherman,,that sounds straight forward enough, and makes a lot of sense,,
