Thats a great story,,even if the bitch was no where near her season, i would still believe that the fox is a young dog and his sexual desire has over ridden his emotional capacity as a species, meaning hes just got to that age in a canine where they're begining to get a bit frisky and this has a stronger drive in him than his fear of your little bitch,,best of luck with her,,

Sound dont need to be that accurate, with the wind blowing , hopefully not in red's direction, you just need a squeaking noise, to catch his interest, pursed lips on the back of your hand is as good as any,,

He could have needed to let off a bit of steam , usually a dog who takes a bit of a whooping but didn't start the row , will start the next one himself, it may never occur again , was it a young dog, ? the age will make a difference, the younger the dog the more of an impression it will leave in his mind, with an older dog its usually shrugged off very soon, a dog that knows his job doesn't bother with that sort of shite, unless hes frustrated with something,or still learning his trade,,best of luck,

i would try to use the sight of one of those things to treat him, go out with him on the lead somewhere your expecting to see one as soon as one comes into view, give him the most tasty thing you can get your hands on, that way the negative becomes a positive,,it wont change overnight though, it'll take time,, but you will get to a stage where his first reaction on seeing one is to look to you instead of looking for the road,,best of luck

4 month old pup contantly whining
Casso replied to lamping_dave's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
i had a pup like that before, i lot of that whining is learnt behaviour, if it whined before and it got itself some attention from you, it knows whining works,,the best way i found to treat it is, that nothing happens when it whines, that means it dont get taken out, fed, play with or anything until there is silence, 10 seconds at the start, and build up, the dog will twig ,that nothing good happens when i whine so i'll try something else, it defo wont happen overnight,,the pup will learn that whatever its is doing at that particular moment, that is what triggers something to happen, thats how -

some advice please from the lurcher men
Casso replied to calum henderson's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
If your only taking him out to watch,,make sure your mates dog is bang on ,on the lamp, good retrieve, good manners ,friendly,in fact 100% good all round lamping dog,,because your pup will not understand what the fook is going , but he will be watching your mates dog like a hawk,, -
I was wondering lads whats the best time in your life to own a running dog, I kept lurchers while at school,,plenty of spare time, willing ,fit,no stress, keen, plenty of get up and go, The flip side of that was,,no money ,no wheels, lack of experience, When your a little older,,money ,some knowledge, still fit, more settled, good set of wheels, formed a picture of what hunting and what works for you Older still ,experience , settled, less ego driven maybe, knowledge, plenty of connections in the game, wiser, more patience and understanding of dog, knows his/her hunting and prey Flip side of this one

Dan im not asking you to believe me, i've just seem to be defending myself on this thread, im not bothered if no one believes a word,,what i will say is, i dont go round with my eyes wide shut,,i question the why all the time, and never came up with answers till i started looking at things from a different angle,, Debate is great, and different ideas are welcome , if it helps to understand people make their own mind on things ,its all there for everyone to see,,if you got all the answers already dan thats fine, but i dont,, I do know what sheep shit is,,the dog eats enough of it,,but app

ah a big fan of cesar milan i see ... so you reckon dogs have no idea about time ... what about the dog that knows when its best buddy is due home from school and waits by the window at the same time every day ??? i have a funny feeling he has time appreciation and awarnes ... the driving force behind all canine work is to kill ... so guide dogs for the blind want to kill ??? hearing dogs want to kill ??? aes dogs want to kill ??? you are talking about beliefs that are very much in the past my friend the world of canine behavioure has moved on rapidly in the last few years and a great many of

because its been bred out of them,,dan we'll have to agree to disagree,, humans put their own terms on how a canine behaves because its all we can reference, a dogs thinking is not a thinking its a feeling,,its how they operate,,does a cat know what your feeling, does it hell,,but the mutt does, because he can,,and thats how we've get on so well together,, Its that feeling he get when he hungry that causes him to be unsettled in the yard, thats the exact same feeling that wolves get in the wild when its time to hunt,,very same,,its the start of the drive process,,no question,,

The driving force behind all canine work is to kill, certain traits have been taken out, or exploited to suit us,,the canine is an animal that lives totally in the moment, he has no idea of time ,,he has no idea that he will ever be fed again, he doesn't think bout the future, he has no idea whats to come, the only thing that tells him he's hungry is his gut,,so when he hunts he doesn't know its not the last time. What he is totally based on is the feeling he get from us and what his gut is telling him,, Come across a fallen log on a path well used by both of you,,and his gut reaction is f

ok,,best of luck ,

Dan, you know as well as i do that a full dog will not perform as well as a empty one , the reason for that is that the canine feels the world through its stomach an not its brain ,the canine feels its way in life , through its gut,, casso that is a very outdated veiw ... do you think collies work the hill better because they are hungry ??? do you think top class greyhounds chase a mechanical hare because they havnt been fed ??? the truth is that wild animals are driven to hunt through hunger and necesity ... eat or die its as simple as that ... however canis familiaris the domestic dog

Dan, you know as well as i do that a full dog will not perform as well as a empty one , the reason for that is that the canine feels the world through its stomach an not its brain ,the canine feels its way in life , through its gut,, I agree with you that a full dog will not perfrom like and emptied out dog. And while I will agree that to a very small extent there may be some truth to your theory about them feeling the world through its stomach, its still only a very small part of it. So small as to not be worth talkin about. ok dan,,the term "gut feeling"is how early humans su

I wouldn't even feed him that evening, its hunger that drives animals in the wild, wolves might not eat for 3 or 4 days and its the hunger that drives the hunt ,and after running and hunting up to 5 or 6 hours and running possibly 15 miles they might make a kill if lucky, if not they do it next day,,a hungry dog is a must if you want to get the best out of him,,if you think a dog is going to drop after a few runs because hes hungry, their is something serious wrong with his everyday feed,,best of luck,, a wolf in the wild is completely different to a running dog specificaly bred to be

good post, i think as most lurcher are made from (greyhounds) which have (sensetive temps) you have to handle all type xs of lurcher with care. Collies, bulls, saluki, deerhounds ..........) all can have (sensetive) temps. So i think if you are not the calm type person, which i aint myself.I find (all) lurchers xs hard at times to train. Thats why alot get fecked up, because of (bad)handle'n. bad handling no its always the dogs fault mate brought the subject up because young kid local to me got a minshaw lurcher pup bought for him picked he said because it was the biggest and boldest

My question would be iceman, what is the grade, is it just a made up phrase people use talking bout numbers ,is the owners expectation of a dog because he's looking over his shoulder at the next fella and what his dog is doing,,my grade would be, that im contented with the dog , he's got good manners, he dont take off as soon as i let him off the lead, good with the kids, does what he's told, makes a whole hearted attempt to catch whatever im hunting, and minds the house when im away thats my grade,,the rest is ego driven,,Best of luck,,

davey, was the dog started in the day or on the lamp,,just wondering,,

you need to develope a better bond with that pup,,you should be the center of his world at that age,,he only running off because he finds other things more interesting,,forget about all the dominance bullshit , think of it as a partnership, with you pulling the strings,,the thing bout a pup at that age is, he's still making his mind up about you,,but he also just wants to play, so play with him in some form, it might seem a bit mad , but within a week he'll see you as a different person,,
