  1. try to manage her so she not chewing on something shes not ment to, and if she does, distract her with something the two of you can play with you dont want her to see you as a block to her blossoming drive , chewing and ragging are the first elements of drive a pup will show she will begin to see you as a part of her drive process if you engage her in play, dont worry bout dominating her, manage her as best you can , best of luck with her
  2. one thing that is painfully obvious from this thread is how little people understand bout the nature of the canine no pup was ever born with a chip on its shoulder, they were put there by the sack load by misguided fools,,
  3. its partly an expression of his drive, when he starts working he'll get out of it , , puppies do it to each when in kennel together, its a way of starting play with litter mates,,
  4. what does she retrieve for,,praise,,food or for it to be thrown again,,try not taking the item off her when she retrieves,,also i would work on your bond with her, she seems a little possessive,, praise no food. she is very possive she isnt normally aggresive but if shes out ferreting shell sit buy the rabbit pile and if another dog approaches "her catch" shell have a go. i think thats part of your prob bud, if she that possessive go back to the tennis ball and skin for a few weeks in spare time and dont take them off her when she retrieves use 2 , let her drop one to chase t

  6. he seems to have somewhat of a grasp of the energy in dogs, but its not realistic the ask some folk to walk their dogs up to 5 miles aday, just to use up the mutt's energy also seems to have very little grasp of drive in dogs and how that effects their nature,,problem dogs are just subdued on camera the prob will certainly arise when he gone I would be interested to know how many dogs in his compound are not castrated,,
  7. i never use a single skin or tennis ball or whatever i want the mutt to retrieve use 2 , that way the possessive element of its instinct wont kick in, he wants the skin and the grub, and thats the way the pups nature is, ,,throw 1 as soon as he lifts it get him excited bout the other one, that way hopefully he'll run up to you with the other item in his mouth, tease him for a few seconds with the second one , he will drop the first one , then throw the second , repeat this over weeks a little at a time, until you become the focus of attention not the skin ,,you will end up with a fast ret
  8. That's a serious statement there Casso. Come on explain why 3 Turns is fake, I'm sure lot's would like to know an ounce more. its not that serious artic, he's on here to have a bit of fun and if thats how he gets his kicks so be it ,he harmless enough really , but the poor sod knows nothing bout hunting and everything he puts on here is recycled off other threads or the internet, look over his posts, sad really ,,
  9. 3 turns is a complete fake, how he has got away with it so far says more about the internet than anything,,
  10. your getting a lot of advice there bud,,but 1 thing i would say to ya, biting and tugging and those actions which are common with bull breeds are how a dog releases stress from his system a direct natured dog such as yours needs to be able let his prey drive flow through regular bite work can become a calm and trusted mutt not just exercise like running round , dogs are really orally fixated, especially terriers, running round will only tire him physically it wont destress him and if you become the channel through which he gets to become high in drive, your bond with the dog will increase
  11. wouldn,t be worth a shit,,all instinct ,no drive,,
  12. knew a chap years ago who bred a foxhound lurcher for running heavy quarry that was clipped with a shot first then lamped , he wanted something that would stay , track at night , and hold ,,not sure how the dog turned out, but the foxhound sire was top dog in the local hunt , he was the meanest, ugliest, most unforgiven animal i have ever seen, head like a bucket, shoulders like a mastiff, who could run all day, very impressive beast,,
  13. its not possible for a dog to be too fast for the lamp then, to be honest ,blinding speed wouldn,t be at the top of list when it comes to a lamping dog, thanks bud,
  14. I,ve heard it mentioned a few times on here, can a dog be too fast for the lamp ,or is it a dog that hasn,t yet learned to run clever ,,or do some never learn??
  15. That problem is completly fixable bud , 100% , the thing is people are hung up on dominating their mutt seems to be the thing to do, you know he a good dog trust your feelings ,as you say he's 99% spot on, its just that little block somewhere in your relationship, ending his life will be failing him and you will still be left wondering where it all went wrong,,PM me if ya need anymore advice,,best of luck
  16. a dog is by his very nature a social animal, the growling is a defensive behavour not an aggressive move, he seems to be in fear of you which is why he's scared when you raise your voice to him , giving him a telling off or a dig when he growls is only driving the problem deeper, its not going away , its only shutting him down and pushing more stress into his system Find out what turns him on the most, chasing a ball , playing tug , whatever gets his drive up, a dog who gets to drain his drive regular, is a happy contented and social animal, but he must see you as the way of using his drive
  17. i think beddy's with the right bottle are harder to find these days, worked a first cross beddy grey in the past and she could draw with any strong dogs we had,but she lacked pace and never throw pups with anything near the same ability,,personally i prefare a dog with a bit of weight if im considering big stuff,,
  18. Not sure what advice your looking for bud,,you seem to have it all worked out,,one thing is, once you start him at stud he will go looking for bitchs anywhere he can, they turn into real horn dogs,,
  19. Castration will effect his zest for life, its not just his sexuallity , or course his will not understand what has happened, but if you watch a castrated dog around entire dogs will see his behavour has changed, and the other dogs can sense the difference in him, his drive is not just in his head, I believe this push to castrate dogs in society is generated from a misunderstanding of their very nature, Alot of pet owners turn to the vet for advice with a problem dog , and the vet aint going to turn down a few quid which also may solve certain traits in dogs, but whatever the problem was the
  20. sounds like a smart dog, you,ve done well with him,,give yourself a pat on the back, and dont be worrying what anyone else is doing,, enjoy him, they dont last for ever, best of luck with him..
  21. Some wise words already spoken on this thread,,her temper as you call it, is she way of defending herself, if the bitch lacks confidence she will appear to see danger everywhere and that includes strange canines, as already mentioned some breeding lines of dog include a nervous gene, but unless the dog is a complete basket case you can help her by building on her confidence bit by bit, if you are her master most likely you have installed a certain amount of tension in your relationship with her,,Start there , play with her , get 2 tennis balls , get her drive worked up, throw one and leg it,
  22. Probably right: nothing is ever more than 50 yards from thick cover on most of my permission, but it could also be cos I've got rubbish dogs LOL Hand on heart, I haven't got the line I used to have, and they were better generally speaking, just didn't live as long Got fed up with burying youngish dogs killed in action. honest answer,,i,ve found the more dogs i have , the worse they seem to be, years ago when i was starting out with only one dog with plenty of time to invest, the dog turned out to be shit hot, looking back on it now maybe it wasn,t just the dog itself, but the u
  23. so how do you start them off? sure you must start on rabbits? so per ban you would only run your dog on fox and never rabbits????? i think what the man is saying is that , some dogs seem to have an inbred dislike for charlie, and may not be effected the same way by bunnies,,i can understand that,,
  24. Maybe its where your running your dogs but i have never found any quarry more difficult on the lamp compared to day time,,
  25. you need to give the pup someway of relieving his stress, you leaving him is freaking him out If ya got to keep a dog inside like that, get one of those crates,,it will do a numbers of things it will help with house breaking also gives the pup somewhere it feels safe,,it will help cut down on the little fecker having a panic attack everytime you leave the room, it gets him used to his own company if you leave in chews and things , he will happly release stress by way of chewing instead of crying ,you got to introduce it nice and handy though, feed him in it , let him play in it
