  1. choclate and dogs are a bad combination,,dont give your dogs any of that shite,,
  2. all i would do with a pup that age is play,,the more you play , the bigger the bond, i usually dont worry bout training until we have an understanding,,get the bond right first and the training falls into place on its own,, not the other way round, ,do to much training too young , and its all going to fall to bits once her drive kicks in,, Don,t agree,I,ve had a couple of pups this type from 7/8 weeks of age,had them sitting and retrieving in a couple of days, the trick is not to overdo it,if you see the pup losing interest stop and leave it untill the next day yeah pups at that a

  4. if i was you i'd try to figure out more the nature of canine's before you ball's up another one bud,, what a cock you are,the mans looking for advise if you have none..dont post your right,,just move on to the next one, hope everything will be ok , and even if its not, dont matter,,alot of folk seem to spend alot of time wondering what different crosses are like,,and not understanding every litter even of the same type will be different, but what wont be different is the fact that they are all progammed to do the same by nature and instinct ,,Dogs are social by nature,,,,
  5. if i was you i'd try to figure out more the nature of canine's before you ball's up another one bud,,
  6. The way i focus a dog on an area is point,,i play fetch using a ball, before i throw the ball i point in the direction im going to throw and always throw in that direction,,in no time the mutt will pick up on what your doing, a canine is one of the only animals to understand pointing or the projection of your gaze, its instinctive,,, after a while you will have to plant the ball or a couple of balls round a field or garden, point in the direction and encourage the dog on,,dont make too difficult at first , using the same phrase every time, he will get the knack , keep it a fun game , and he'
  7. im not sure what you expected from him bud, daylight is when dogs are most active, bringing a strange dog in to your home and expecting him to act like ai angel was a non starter, you need to condition him to understand your comings and goings,,the dog dont understand your ever coming back, how could he, think bout it , you leave the house, he totally on his own, he panics, the only way he can relieve his stress is orally,,barking ripping , tearing,,generally redecoration the place ,given time he will begin to understand your time table, try tiring him out physically but i dont think their is
  8. dogs are orally fixated, they use chewing , tearing , ragging, as way of reducing stress, no matter where in or out of the home, free running will tire him physically, but he needs to release stress through biting , watch terriers when they're full of tension, they will get their teeth into anything, branches, clumps of grass, each other, dont matter, when stress builds up it needs to be reduced, orally,, i would use a tug toy with him in the morning ,10 -15 mins tug play,he might not be interested at first, but tease him with it and he'll get the idea,,best of luck ,,
  9. when was the last time she got to mouth and retrieve something,,she sounds very driven,,is she getting out regular,,
  10. up to your old tricks again,,turny,,
  11. i would get the bond right between youbefore you do much more hunting, your only going to get frustrated with the dog out,,take him out and just play ball with him, 2 tennis balls, throw one , then get him excited bout the other in your hand but dont throw it til he brings the other in , but dont take it off him just let him drop it, then sling the other one, this play does 2 things it informs the dog that when he brings something to you your not going to claim it off him, and will open a channel of understanding between you 2, i would also call him by name when he's coming towards you for
  12. just me and the mutt, thats what my hunting is about, no photos taken , no talking, no noise, no need to impress anybody, call of the wild is a solitary sound,,
  13. one of the most usefull commands i find is Wait,,if the mutt is off lead, and we're coming up to a gate or gap in a hedge,, the reason been i want to see whats in the next field before the mutt does,,
  14. personally i like at least a year between pups, enough time that the pup understands and trusts me in every situation, training a group of pups is 4 times the work, depends what you intend doing with them of course, but to get a group of pups who will only be interested in playing between themselves for their first year on the same wavelenght as the handler is a mighty task , then again it dedends what standard you expect from your mutt,,best of luck
  15. Wait whilst your dog gets big and old enough and get yerself out with the lamp,,, easy as that.. Not all dogs can just do that though, that's why I'm asking, I'm not having a dig or out, I would love it to be as easy as that. why cant dogs do it ??thats what the fuckers are bred for,,is this for real,,
  16. plenty of info if you search on here,,point lamp at bunny, slip mutt,,
  17. anytime Looks like the start of a beautiful relationship,, but who will be the taker??? my moneys on DottyDoo not sure bout dotty, but whin dont put out on first night,,

  20. Interesting reply. How should a handler be the focus for a dogs drive ? Cheers. the way i see it a pup dont know what he was born to do, but their all born with prey drive and its got to come out and in a lot of cases thats what get the dog into trouble i focus the pup on me as a way of using his drive from early, play tug , get him crazy bout a ball, all that stuff,,after a while pup will start bring stuff to you to play with but, this is the thing ,i always let the pup win in tug and never take a ball off him when he retrieves, all that bullshit bout not letting a dog win wh

  22. droppers are a throw back from the old greyhound men, whose expensive dogs would never have been allowed course in fear of injury, why any lurcher owner feels the need for it , i'll never know, no lurcher needs to get a kill, all it needs is to course and retrieve , thats all ,and when the time is right they all will, people who use droppers are clueless amatures in my book,,, the confidence people talk about ,is the dog finally realising he can get to use his drive on something ,which in my book is wrong because the handler should be the focus for his drive first,,
  23. i would be looking for a forward pup, confident , outgoing, its a lot easier to get the best out of a pup who looking for work than a less outgoing one, a driven pup would be the one i'd choose in a litter of pups you will find the full spectrum like the rainbow, from dominant traits right down to shy ones, they are developed like this so they can fill different niches in the hunt like a wild pack , they cant all be born with the same traits or there would be too much conflict in the pack ,likewise too many shy pups would produce not enough leaders, if you know what your doing pick the le
  24. spot on bud,,high drive is a huge emotional pull in a dog is get to the very essence of his prey,,this can vary in dogs ,,what you think is brains is actually lower drive,,if you've experienced high drive in a dog , its hard to go back to a dog with low drive they just seem not to be giving 100%,,
