agree with what your saying , there are some very fleet footed runners bred to catch, to take your line straight back to a hound just to inject speed is crazy, because no greyhound is bred to catch,, anything, there are some very fast running dogs out there with some great qualities in their breeding, who have proved themselves as great catchers of all game, thats my tuppence worth,, -
its something go to do with potential energy in their system that cant be expressed at that moment,, eg a car when its turned on but in neutral , vibrates through the energy in the motor,,

you could be right on both counts im moving back home soon so will have alot of time on my hands and will give her another year before i make my mind up she will be nearly 4 themn if no improvment ill have to make a decision then its a hard one as she is also a bloodbank from her sire i think you should be completely honest with yourself before you decide to breed from that bitch,,not having a go bud , but she dont sound like ideal material ,,by 4 a dog should have the whole thing sussed and more,,it would be either shit or get off the pan for me,,best of luck ,,

its all about association, she associates that chain of events with her working , had an old dog years ago ,who could tell if it was the right night for lamping by the sound of the wind in the trees and would whine accordingly,, might be a bit late for her but i like to get young lurchers out in fields just walking not hunting, that way fields become a relaxing place for a young dog before he does anything, so by the time he enters, he chilled in his envoirment, you need to break the chain of events often enough, so that she dont know whats coming next,,take her in the car other places and

was told by an old poacher before that nights with moon up but with cloud cover, were his best nights for taking big numbers he put it down to the fact that bunnies are more comfortable to travel further out from home because its brighter and not as intimidating for them as a pitch black night,,
-
what im getting at more is say every bunny caught had a value say 4 quid, not selling just a value would that value over a year be greater or lesser than what he cost to keep him for that year,, i know its not why we keep runners, just interested,,
-
yeah i was thinking bout keeping themselves fed, its nice to be able to pull a few out of the freezer, and not have to dip into your pocket, feck you got some big chickens over there bird,,
-
yeah a lot of folk pay a lot of money for that rush or buzz in other forms, id rather watch the dogs run than jump out of a plane any day, maybe because i've never felt the need to jump out of one

Your a contented man john, im pleased for ya,,simple pleasures in life are always the most heart warming,,best of luck

Does your runner earn his keep over a year, Say a bunny is worth maybe 4/5 quid ,you dont need to be to specific bout anything else,,, would your mutt earn enough to off set the cost of what it costs to keep him ? That includes feeding in the off season, vet , general maintenance, Or if not , is the excitment the dog/dogs brings when out , i know some lads live in better areas with access to more game , worth the cost of keeping him ,, is the value of a good day/night worth every penny,, Any comments welcome,,that includes the bullshitter,,

it comes down to genetics, both codes of hounds will produce dogs with high and low drives, you breed from the right line of track dogs with proven genes the result will be as good as anything from average coursing bred lines a lot of coursing bred lines tend to be powerhouses of dogs with plenty of muscle mass, bred to give maximum speed over a relativly short distance, ideal for what it does, but may not be as supple a animal as what is needed to breed into something expected to run a bunny 20 or 30 times a night,,But for running bigger stuff maybe what you need,, remember they have be -

why would ya need to ask that question,,

no i have been lamping for nearly 10 years and have lamping dogs for the job.i got the two pups offered very cheap. salukis and saluki crosses have always been my favourite breed but never actualy owned a pure bred it was something i have always wanted and finally got.i have had them from 12 weeks old the dog is coming on great but the bitch does not seem to be making progress at all im trying to train her with live stock but seems to be a bad listener wat would be the answer to train to stock for a lad who's been in the game nearly a decade, your asking very novice questions,,that

your problem now is everytime she goes into a field her drive kicks in, and unless the two of you have got some sort of bond that also relates to her drive, its very hard to make yourself more interesting than chasing bunnies round even in the dark,, if ya do any training with her , do it in the field, your probably the most interesting thing at home for her, only because theres no bunnies there and she knows that,,
-
what have ya been doing with her up til now? hunting wise
-
have you had her since she was a pup, or bought her in ?
