1. smart pups bud, look after them, one thing i would say,,its 3 times the work getting two pups, to a decent standard, said it on here before and got attacked for it, I would offload one, and put all your effort onto the other, some lads say hold on to them as some are slow to mature and you should let them run on til over a year old,,, but i think by that then , you've lost valuable learning and trusting time together, watch them like a hawk for a few weeks and one will apeal to you more than the other, thats what i would do , if your happy enough with taking on the training of both of then
2. Cats don't come under the law for damage to property as they are not legally classed as property, whatever the owner might think. The law regarding property and animals dates back to the times when all 'pets' were working animals upon which a value could be put and therefore a loss incurred. However, cats were never working animals, therefore had no working or legal value and are not included in the property laws. The only thing you can be done for is if you allowed an animal (unless a pest or hunted animal) to suffer unnecessarily. Mind you, you can get out of that one by proving it died
3. Thats perfect bud, get him playing with ya, get down on the ground and roll round like a gobshite with him, play will increase his attachment to you, its all pups want to do really, best of luck with him
4. myself i like a dog well mongerized, dont really want to see a bred in it,a lurcher that is bred to type , with ability in the thought behind the breeding, last dog was 3\4 and lost him to a twisted gut, a feature i have never come across in a well bred mongrel,,
5. Lurchers are generally an intelligent dog with fair amount of drive, so are most other dogs bred to work with man, those traits can be channeled into different elements of work whatever it is,, saying that , once those traits are present, it falls to the owner and his ability with dogs , and thats where the real answer lies, in the handler,,not the dog,
6. how far can she take it, let her take it where she wants, does she want the dog brought in for questioning??
7. didn't think they could spare that amount of water over there,,
8. if thats what yea call it thats what it is but this man has being doing it for years and gets regular visits from the dog warden and the ispca and they have no complants edited to say when i was their a few weeks back think their was about 50 dogs in total as he said everythings for sale at the right money Well as an ex dog warden i can safely say we had f**k all authority on kennels unless they are boarding. Wasn't picking an argument and my original comment was about 10 dogs, now he has 50 Why would anybody need 50 dogs unless its to make some coin would he be a peddler or a
9. From what i hear, they can fight their corner and its the survival of the fittest. They get the best of feeding too. Left a dog with him years ago to run it on a bit, when i got it back it had been well fed and all that, but had completly reverted into a pack animal, like a hound, no responce from it at all, it really is dog eat dog ,any disagreements between animal are sorted by the alpha male, they gotta be tough, a question for yea when yea left this dog their did yea see all the dogs he had and if so what did yea expect that he was going to take your dog into the house and loo

11. your not the first man that said it could do with a clean but in my experience more often than not if the dog is not made right or look the part he is no good their exceptions to that of course maybe you got a point there bud, but heart cant be seen on the outside,,
12. i would also add that the dog is working completely on instinct, its instincts are controlling how the dog behaves in your circumstance, and instinct is totally based on fear, a dog cannot control its instincts without a group trigger, a group trigger (you and dog) turns fear into desire through play ,tug toys would be great, you can work on getting the fear out through biting and tugging, when fear is converted into desire a want becomes available to serve as a group trigger which in turn makes the dog want to be with you, and a want gives the dog purpose that allows it to contro
13. as the man said earlier, play, play and more play, hand feed her but dont stroke while feeding , this can panic nervous dogs, dont reach in and pet her when she lying down either, let her make all the approachs, she may only want her hindquaters rubbed,(what female doesn't), because face to face may be too much emotional interaction at this point in time,, bounce a ball and try to get a responce from her might be just short eye contact or putting her paws up on you, but its positive ,,
14. always been a runner knocking round the house, grandfather hunted and likewise my father, grew up listening to stories of dogs and hunts, nothing like the excitement of putting up a good hare in the right field, with a fit dog, takes my breath away still , after all these years,,
15. Hmmmmmmm......so what your saying is if you've put in hours and hours on your dog and got it trained to a high standard and the dog just decides 1 day to say "f**k you, i'm doing it my way today" you cant hit the dog because its not the dogs fault its the owners........please explain that 1 too me please?... what i call a highly trained dog is one where i know whats going on in his mind , i know what motivates him, and i know his distractions, at no stage does a kick in the arse come into my thinking, it wont help me solve any problem i have between him and i, hope that helps,,
16. management is always a much better option with dogs and is without a doubt the way to go with pups, the prob with correction is, the dog dont always associate it with the crime, an overly corrected dog will begin to see corrections in everything , a raised tone, a cough, loud noise, and in different situations will begin to shut down when any problem is encountered incompletly different circumstances, hitting as far as i can see , is a frustration reflex, an inability to control an animal properly, its never the dogs fault, a dog is a dog, he dont know jack shit, and so need to be m
17.

good topic,,i like a bold dog,a dog thats brave not just with quarry but general outlook , found i can get more out of the dog ,a dog that can deal with situations an still remain calm under pressure without shutting down is what i prefare,

found that with keeping 2 dogs together before each have matured, 1 becomes the polar opposite of the other, one likes travel in the car the other hates it, one is more excitable than the other, one will be more shy, they will each be possive over different things, thats the way it has to be for the pack to work, with
18. A dog is programmed by his nature to respond to his inner pull to make contact with quarry through drive , its one of the strongest pulls in the animal kingdom, its worth £1,oooooo to the dog, a treat is worth about £1000, making a fuss about £500, When a dog is out sniffing round doing his own thing, what it is looking for is a scent that collates back to some scent is the past that triggered drive , scent of bunnies, fox, whatever has stimulated his drive in the past, because that ''s where he want to be , in DRIVE , When your mutt weights up the £1000 and the £500 treat VERSUS the
19. im never sure whether bringing a pup out to watch another dog is good or bad, for one thing the other dog needs to be shit hot with a1 retrieve if i were to take him out, it also builds a lot of excitment in pup which is not ideal , when learing the game, i prefare to take a pup out cold, if you know what i mean, when hes in a calm frame of mind, and not bursting at the seems , not fond of another dog there when trying to work on retrieve either, when starting a pup i try not to focus too much on the catch ,which will come but start as you mean to go on as far as walking to heel, doing wh
20. yes mate hes lay in front the fireplace buy my feet as i am writing this, hes just over 6 1/2 yrs old. born sept 14th 2004 got him at 8 weeks old done took him out lamping straight away hes done plenty of work. ive always gone lamping with a bloke thats always taken his dogs out from 8 weeks since ive been a young lad. seen the results and what it does to the dogs time and time again. it puts a old head on young shoulders. you sound like a man who's thought bout all this walking with the pup and think its going to pay off in the long run,,and when you see improvements in the mutt
21. Very good answer Also, don't forget that a dog which has been bred to kill stuff, if not killing stuff on a regular basis, has that unburned energy and prey drive just bubbling away under the surface. I've always noticed how mine tend to get a bit edgy during the spring, still very fit, but not hunting and catching as they would in the winter months. It takes a while for them to unwind and settle down. There are also certain dogs who I never let run with other dogs; if the others are having a mad play around, those dogs stay on the lead. They are allowed to run on their own to burn off some e
22. Sorry ive just read that she roughs up the pup as well out, i still think shes stressed in her envoirment at present, and her actions are a release of stress in the her system, i could never figure out why terriers who could be kenneled together on a daily basis, could suddenly want to kill each other when tied up at a dig, the sights and sounds of the dig and because they cant get at quarry yet ,builds stress which in turn , turns to drive, the release of drive in terriers is mostly orally ,barking biting , pulling , tearing, its how they ground themselves, they cant control it, and when lev
23. It might seem a round about way but its probably got something to do with the new dog, if it started shortly after the pup arrived i would think its almost certain, look at your routine , is there less time spent with the older bitch now, she is expressing behavior that has developed in her envoirment, You may have put her in her place for roughing up the pup at some stage, a behavior she has repressed until she feels free enough to express herself in the right envoirment , but just not against the pup because she knows better,,she seems to be storing a lot of stress thats been built up at h
24. a good dog man generally knows what breeding he's after for what purpose and that makes life a lot easier for both of them, but also have seen very keen young lads with not much experience of dogs but have done their time with more seasoned men, get their first dog and basicially hunted 24/7 and produced decent animals,,but at the end of the day a dog will only be as good as it can, hunting is just about catching game for the pot for me, far to many words like world beater and best of the best branded round , lads end up striving for the wrong things in the lurcher world, and when they
