I was there on Thursday - gundog day. I know very little about gundog breed standards but as a dog owner, I would have called some of the Labradors on display 'on the fat side'. There was a much more althletic version in the Field Trails display arena - it was able to jump over a hurdle, i'm not sure the specimens in the breed show rings would have though.
  2. Rollin' Stones Album - Bigger Bang Track - Laugh, I nearly died.
  3. My terrier bitch broke her hock when a pup. It was put in a spint (which she successfully removed every few days) and she was pretty much immobilised in a cage for several weeks. She healed very well, I think because she was young and her bones were still growing very actively. She is fine now, sometimes she 'skips' a bit behind, the way some terriers do, so maybe she is a bit arthritic, but generally it does not hold her back. She is five yers old now. Hope your dog does well too.

Is there really any need for that?

Some people have very rude porno-style avatars. Anyone find that more objectionable than the photos of foxes and deer etc?
  6. Try Otex from your local chemist - if it does the job for human ears, surely it's safe enough for the dogs. Never did mine any harm.
  7. To add a positive slant - if you get rid of one you lessen the chance of the mare getting pregnant and then you'll end up with three! Good luck with your decision, I know it's got to be a hard one.
  8. Don't forget that horses are naturally herding animals. If you get rid of one, the other may be very lonely if it was used to having company and may be miserable, especially if you don't, as you say, have much time for them.
  9. I think anybody who dosen't clean up after their dog is a birty B%*#*&! Have you ever been in a public place (most places, we're all members of the public, after all) and seen a child with it's clothes, shoes or hands covered in dog shite while the parents try to calm them down and wipe it off - disgusting! Gives everyone with a dog a bad name in my opinion! Also the people who walk the streets at night with their dogs and think that just because it's dark, their dogs can't be seen fouling the footpath and then just walk away leaving a steaming pile? Sorry to rant about this one
  10. Love the look of those terriers. How do you find all the bitches get on together. My jack russell terrorist bitch is a real sweetheart - 100% with people and most dogs but if there is a 'set-to' it is usually with another bitch.
  11. That looks like a right basket load of mischief!
  12. Great pictures - looks like a good walk out on a crisp day. When the falcon catches the prey is it easy to get it to let go again without the prey getting ripped up? Would there ever be a danger of the falcon getting grabbed by the dogs in all the excitement of the chase? For example does the bird stay on the ground with the catch? If your dog does not respond to your recall could it turn into a disaster for the bird?
  13. Brilliant show - food for thought as they say. After watching this I turned on to BBC3 to see "honey wer'e killing the kids" - the stuff some people are feeding their kids on! Hugh shows where REAL food comes from - not from a packet off the shelf in Tesco. :11:
  14. My dog still has his, a little round bulge on his belly, over time it has never changed in size. It's not that big and has never caused him any problems - he's seven years old now. Hope your is ok - let us know how he got on at the vet.
  15. Please post in readable English with proper spelling, punctuation AND NO TEXT TALK.
  16. Fireworks are very dangerous - isn't it heartbreaking when they blow their fingers off or get blinded? I'm surprised parents give their kids money to buy them, but then again there are enough 12-16 year olds lying drunk around here every weekend so obviously their parents don't give a s*%t!
  17. It's good to hear a positive outcome.
  18. Hi there That's some mixture of a dog collection. How do you find they all get on together? Which one (after yourself, of course,) is the bossiest?

    Cacti

Hi Molly I have a collection of different types of cactus plants. For years they sat on my kitchen window sill - baking in the summer and putting up with whatever in the winter with metal framed draughty windows. I moved them all outdoors three years ago in the summer while I was getting new windows fitted. I didn't want to bring them in to clutter up the new window, plus I thought insect/worms may have got into the soil while they were out and I didn't want dirt/pests in the house. I felt a bit bad about it when autumn approached some of them are over 10 years old, so I went to B&
  20. Good advice Collie/Grey. Why breed pups for this reason alone when there are so many unwanted out there? If he is castrated he should be more settled and able to concentrate on his work instead of making a nuisance of himself. So many Springers seem scaty and excitable, pissing themselves all over the place at the smallest excuse.
  21. The guy entertained and educated us with his style of work. It's unfortunate he died but he knew his job and obviously the dangers involved with the animals he chose to work with at such close quarters. No doubt he will be remembered for his crazy stunts but hey, he'll also always be remembered for his dramatic exit like so many others in public life - A TV legend.
  22. I reckon they are what most people would recognise as a 'traditional' Jack Russell - small dogs bred to be handy no matter if they had pointy ears or bandy legs. Would these photos have been taken before showing working dogs was popular? These days at shows the longer legged Parsons type seem to be popular. How did they all get on together? Did they live and work as a pack?
