I buy big bags of frozen mixed veg from the likes of Tesco and Iceland about £1 for 1-2kg and just throw a handful of it into each dogs meat when i am in a rush or i don't have handy fresh veg (defrosted first, it does not take long to defrost) That way it is easy, clean and cheap. But you can always see the bits of sweetcorn ha ha!

The above post states that the livestock were being worried.
-
I think you'll find a farmer does have the right to shoot the dogs if they are worrying his livestock, like it or not.
-
I would definitely put a roof on that. Imagine if those hounds spotted a cat on that wall............up, up and away they would go!
-
Just my opinion - but if they were able to shoot four dogs (without the fear of shooting the person supposed to be in contol of them (because then they would really have been in trouble with the law), it makes me think that these four dogs were running loose and at a distance from the handler. Surely anybody with any sense of responsibilty would not let four dogs run like that near sheep for twho hours regardless of whether they were 'stockbroken' or not - that is just asking for trouble?

Hmmm.... questions that come to mind immediately:- 1. What sex are they? That will play an important part - boy and girl? Two girls? Related? 2. Are they part of your family, ie live indoors with you or out in kennels? 3. What did you do when she bit? 4. Are you having her spayed - was she in season at the time? They can go very odd during their season? 5. What game was the child playing with the dog? What were the rules? Was it a game of dominance or I'll have that toy? 6. How does she behave on a lead when she meets other dogs. 7. What is her position in the family? D

I feel for you Kay. I was in a similar situation at the weekend only my terriers (who were on leads) were approached by a Rottweiler. I repeatedly called to the little man who was walking a long way behind his dog with his hands in his pockets to call his dog as it approached mine. 'He's not causing any trouble' the prick replied. It walked right up to me and stuck his face down into the middle of my dogs - i tried to carefully shoo it away but my dogs went at it. Luckily it turned and ran away but i tell you it could have turned nasty for my dogs and perhaps me in the middle of it. I fel

I don't see much wrong in that. If you haven't been drinking then you have nothing to fear from the breathylzer. Any one on here had a friend or relative killed or maimed by a drunk driver?

My bitch used to pull the blanket out of the bed and wet on it then lie on it despite having lots of time outside everyday. It was just a little habit. Some dogs might just like the smell of it - just like they like to roll on all sorts of stinking things. Mine stopped when i took the blankets away and she just lay on a plastic bed - it was still up off the cold floor and i think they do get an amount of heat back of the plastic - mine are kept in the house by the way. She grew out of it in the end.

Nice dogs manipulus. They look like' real' healthy dogs that have the physical ability to do a days work. Not like the UK Kennel Club types with little stunnted legs who look like freaks, hardly able to carry their bellies above the floor. I like the look of the fawn/ginger one. Please keep the posts coming.

Oh yes they can..........they can achieve injuries!

My dogs are small Jack Russells. I often feed them on chicken wings - one chicken wing would be quite a substantial feed for each of my dogs but i notice if i don't feed them on veg as well they seem to have difficult passing dung after a few days. I buy bags of frozen veg in Iceland where it costs a pound for quite a big bag. I let it thaw and mix it with whatever meaty stuff they are having. They get vegetables of some sort most days - garden peas, brussell sprouts, carrotts, tomatoes or cabbage, usually i just lift out a bit extra of whatever veg i am going to cook for myself. Does any

need help on working my mastiff x greyhound
littlefish replied to adskibullus's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Good luck with him. It might be a good idea to work on training him not to chase horses. -
How do you go on when the bitch is in season ?? I'm not interested in breeding my dogs so..............the bitch is speyed. Good point also in Skycat's post about using a cage. Not all visitors like dogs - putting them in a cage is a good way of keeping them safely out of the way - less stress for the visitors and the dogs.

Cheers for the recipe for tomato chutney. I had a go at making it but i left out the raisins - i hate raisins but put in some celery to bulk it up as i had some handy. It tastes good in sandwiches - especially as i know what went into it..........but it looks a bit ugly, never mind, it tastes good and it has used up all the wee green tomatoes - i kept the larger ones to ripen on the kitchen window sill. Better luck next year, eh?

What about the ones that hide in hedges and jump out to bite the wheels of passing cars and biles?

I have one dog and one bitch and they get on very well as long as the dog remembers that the bitch is the boss! The bitch seems to naturally get on better with male dogs. I know they all have different personalities but i think i was always be swayed to keeping one of each sex after seeing they way these two get on. It is quite harmonious - important i think especially if they are living in your house with family etc. Good luck with whatever you choose.

Hopefully as she is so young and light and her bones have a lot of growing still to do she can make a good recovery. My terrier pup had a broken back leg at about 12 weeks and it was splinted and she recovered well. I believe keeping her as quiet and still as possible (as you can with a young pup) (immobilized in a cage moslty) helped. Good luck. Keep us posted on her progress.

My tomatoes did not do so well this year - perhaps due to too much rain and not enough sun? The plants have had a right battering in the last few days and they are ready to be scrapped now. There is still quite a lot of small green tomatoes on them and i was thinking of having a go at making chutney. I have never made chutney before so if anyone has any simple recipies i would be grateful if you could put them up. Cheers

I have been feeding mine raw now for about 3 months - i was worried about the change to their digestive systems but have only seen changes for the better. The bitch has had no diarrhoea and the dog has a much healthier waxy coat, also he smells a lot better and never seems to fart now. Both their teeth were coated in hard brown plaque but they have very clean white teeth now. I give mine marrow bones to chew as well as chicken wings, legs, ribs, whatever i can get really. They love the veg too, they were almost pulling lumps out of each other last week over..........brussell sprouts! The

Thanks for the replies. I still have some more left, so i will leave them for a while to see what happens. I have some carrots growing now, so hopefully they will grow downwards and not outwards. The carrots are in tubs about 18 inches deep. I grew the parsnips in compost from B&Q, maybe this is why they were squat, maybe a rougher soil might have got a better result? Thanks for your advice so far. The parsnips tasted ok by the way, just looked a bit rare.

I have pulled up some parsnips today. It was my first attempt at growing them. They grew loads of big green healthy leaves but the roots were quite small and round, like sort of stunted Anyways, i scraped them and chopped them into cubes. They are roasting in the oven now with a few home grown onions and some herbs.........they smell delicious, can't wait til they are cooked. Has anyone else had parsnips grow like this before?
