  1. holding a SGC for urban fox control, does not mean they have to be dispatched in an urban enviroment, they could be driven anywhere, it was more the "having to rely on others" also, and I dont know if Im correct or not, something I will ask FAO when they come around, Im sure using a shotgun in an urban area would be illegal, but using a silenced 410 single short for a legitamate humane dispatch in someones garden, is that still in the same class, Im sure if you could prove the reason, then would a "blind eye, be turned" plus the fact, Im not joe bloggs, but a fully quailified pestie Fa
  2. I may be teaching my gran to suck eggs here, but you state "urban fox control". The fuzz usually say use a sub12 air-rifle in town. Using the .410 would be illegal, surely? Ric
  3. Your Doctor and Counsellor are required to inform the Police IF AND ONLY IF they think you represent a risk to yourself or others. They are FORBIDDEN BY MEDICAL ETHICS to say anything to anyone if you are not such a risk. I believe you are an ambulance driver? You might want to tell your union. A mate of mine is a fireman and he developed PTSD for reasons like yours. The union were a great help to him. RIC
  4. To carry this on as a chat . . .As far as I can make out, the 270 is on the same order of power as the 30-06, .308, or 303 military calibres. If you are shooting in England & Wales you only need it if you are shooting wild boar. If you are shooting in Scotland for large deer - red, sitka, fallow . . . then you can claim to need it. But then why bother? Go for 30-06 and get the bullet weight! Ric
  5. Put up or shut up. Stop talking. Start shooting. Ric RicW if you havent noticed this is a forum....people chat on forums...that's the idea! Fair cop. Ric

  7. Griff - Whoops. Sorry, I assumed that cos you live with your parents you are in your teens I stand by my remarks tho. Given your age, your sense and your level headed approach you should get your FAC. Think about a CZ bolt action as an alternative to the Ruger. Slower but more accurate. RicW
  8. According to Chuck Hawks the recoil is a lot more than the 30-06, but if you can handle that 9.3x74 the 300 WSM will be a pussycat. Google in "300 WSM recoil" and you'll find some links that may help. RicW
  9. Griff - I'd guess you're about 16. If you show the same level of common sense and awareness about shooting when your FEO visits that you show in your post you are in with a damn good chance. We need people like you. Fingers crossed for you bruv. RicW
  10. And yer arm off! There's a guy in the States makes .700 NE pistols. 14000ft.lbf me? Sod that for a game of one eyed Egyptians! RicW
  11. Home Office guidance for Police states that 9mm rimfire and 410 shot pistols are allowable for humane dispatch. In practice only keepers, ghillies and deer wardens get them. Ask by all means but you'll be lucky if you get the variation. You are more likely to be told to use a sub-12 air rifle. Ric
  12. Somebody's got to be joking round here. When the Army was using 7.62x51 they didn't give ear muffs to the likkle boys who didn't like the horrid noise of the gun going off bang. Try putting 10 through a 7.7x57/.303 Lee-Enfield in one minute. Then imagine all yer oppo's up and down the line doing the same for hour on hour in the trenches . . . RicW that's why the "likkle boys" who survived were all deaf as posts, poor sods...not to be advised surely? With your obvious knowledge, shouldn't you be encouraging what is mostly young men to protect their hearing, not talk down to them???

  14. The Home Office guidance for FEOs states that .22 Hornet and Remington .17 centrefire are the only calibres recommended for both. Ammo is bl**dy pricey tho' so you'd want to handload. Ric
  15. there are all sorts of different types of push in ear defenders available the ones that are made custom are very good not sure where you can go to do it but look out for them at game fairs as they will do it and you can pick it up later once there set. there are also ones that you squeeze push in and they expand and mould into your ears these are very good and very cheap. so i would say look out for one of these types. hope this helps. gossy It really comes down to two questions 1) Is money more important than your future hearing? 2) Is your hearing more important than mon
  16. Not a silly question at all. Me and my big mouth. ATB bruv.
  17. Fair enough but another contributor to this forum asked about getting a 308 for fox and was told NO. If this guy with the new FAC is legal for deer then why is he asking damn fool questions about sniper rifles? One or t'other but not both. You ought to realise that Mr L. Long range target rifle = 26" heavy barrel. Deer stalking gun = 21-22" barrel max. Anyway whatever let's not fall out! ATB to y'all Ric I feel the need to go and shoot a deer with my target rifle... If you ask for a 308 JUST for fox, you will be told no. If you ask for a 308 for DEER and fox, you will be told yes, accordi

  19. He's just got his FAC for 22lr, 223, 308 - he says. No mention of DSC. 308 will not be conditioned for fox only, though you can use it for fox if you are conditioned for deer. The obvious conclusion is that he's got it for range use. The fuzz can get really arsey about people using target guns in the field. That's all bruv. Just don't want the guy to drop himself in it through ignorance of the law. Ric
  20. If you are only conditioned to use 308 for target then don't even think about taking it out in the field. Even if you don't get banged up you'll be banned from possessing any firearm ever again. And if you shoot deer without a DSC and permission you'll land yourself in deep s**t. Frankly sunshine you should get a life.
  21. SS - Thanks for the pic. You'ld get a few funny looks with a pair of those on a grouse moor methinks
  22. The Greener GP had a falling block action. The french Darne was more of a sliding breech action. Darne sounds right for the name. Thanks! It's been bugging me for about ten years!
