    Although the 7mm-08 is faster than .308, the heavier .308 bullet gives better stopping power. It is highly-regarded as a calibre for wild boar as well as red and sika. Ric

    A further point is that you are very unlikely to get .308 on a first FAC for field use. 7.62 x 51 is purely a military calibre, the civilian version being known as .308", the diameter of the bullet. It is regarded as suitable for large deer, red and sika, and wild boar. Previous posters gave said most of the rest, and I would just add that for field use your best bet is .22lr. With your CCF training you would be welcome as a member at most .22 target clubs as well. You might well get .308 for target use but have to keep gun and ammo at the club where you shoot. ATB, Ric

    There was a guy in NI got 10 stretch for manslaughter when a .22lr carried over and killed a young lad 500 yards away. I don't like grassing but in this case . . . Those morons could easily kill someone. They aren't "fit people to hold" an FAC and likely to get all shooters in deep sh*t.

    What's all this about "Pakis"? Bin Laden was a Saudi Arabian. A lot of people on here don't know one continent from another. Islam is a North African religion and its most extreme form is Wahabbism, the official Saudi state religion. All, repeat all, the Islamic faith schools in the UK preach Wahabbism. We are always nice to the Saudis because they have more oil than the rest of the OPEC countries put together. There's a lot more reason to have a go at the Arabs than the Pakistanis.

    Only one way to find out mate. No two guns are guaranteed to like the same ammo. Buy 200 apiece of every different make you can get and see which suits you and your gun best. Plus when you decide, buy as many rounds from the same batch as you are allowed on your FAC. Even successive batches from a given maker can give different performance. Serious target shooters go for batches of 5-10,000 at a time! ATB, Ric
