  1. Depends on the circumstances pal. If your ferrets have never seen rat before you cant garuntee they will do the job. The hobs probably the best choice but may have trouble working the tight spots. Sure you cant nock up a smoker? Or dig them out if possible. Where abouts are you? Possibly someone could come along with a smoker to help you out. We have had some great fun with a chainsaw smoker in and around outbuildings using various methods of despatch depending on the circumstances. If theres a few of you just use a decent ratting stick, often more productive than shooting, and safer.
  2. From this; to this; to the first success; The land i run is bloody hard for a pup to kill on but every night out shes noticeably sharper.
  3. rabbit nets have a precise mesh size for a reason folks
  4. hells teeth! Be a decent days ferreting that, never mind a bloody mooch bushing! Terriers of lurcher catching mostly?
  5. Really had my heart set on this jacket! Ill be f*****g gutted if I cnt get a size to fit and I dont know of any shops that stock it so I can go try a few diff sizes on.
  6. Im 5'9" and 40" chest so usually a medium in clothing yet I tried on a harkilla 38" chest and it seemed very big on me. I particularly want the harkila pro hunter light because i want a jacket that fits quite well and not too baggy. Are harkila and seeland jackets particularly big for the sizes they are meant to be? Im sick of shite jackets so want the best but this size thing is really f*****g me off, HELP!
  7. Too much macho bollocks in our small dog world. Why 2 lads that keep different stock cant go out for a night on the lamp and be honest about each others dogs i dont know. Keep the money in ya fecking pockets, leave ya piss taking mates at home and just enjoy the crack and watching another type work along side your own prefered type.
  8. makes a change to have a look at a decent thread on terrier work.
  9. Im affraid i would most probably have the dog pts as i wouldnt feel it would have quality of life. very much depends on the dog and my situation at the time mind.
  10. Few years beating, then asked by the keeper to feed for a week for him, then helped out on work days, when i was out of work he sorted me part time work keepering for him and everything that goes with it. Only a DIY shoot mind you but still learnt a hell of a lot and that was how i got there.
  11. In many cases it isnt important weather or not there is a god but is important weather or not their is the belief in a god. The concept of a god gives people hope/strength. I dont/cant believe in a god/religion, but doesnt mean im right. For those people that blame all war/bad stuff on religion, grow the f**k up, if we werent fighting over religion we would be fighting over some other beliefs. Its just human nature to form groups and argue and fight.
  12. How did the fight go? Ive been eagerly waiting for a post on it. Might have missed it
  13. cheers buddy, might be worth looking into if he pays a fair price and isn't taking the piss with what he offers. Dunno if the numbers ill be getting (last season was very poor, hopefully better this season) are worth it for him but certainly keep him in mind for the future.
  14. Agree to an extent with what your saying bird. But surely this issue would be reduced with a good/experienced dog man behind the breeding, knowing what type of bullx to put to what type of colliex to get the desired attributes in the pups. Also, surely a line bred lurcher that has both collie and bull blood would reduce the issues you mention as with line breeding bull crosses or collie crosses. I think the bullx colliex mix has potential because of the fact they are two specialists (as with the salukix bullx mix), but as you say has the potential to go the other way to.
  15. I bet he doesn't lose sleep over it....
  16. collie/grey x wheaton/grey, im hopeing the wheaton blood in her shows when needed
  17. cheers buddy shes gradually getting there
  18. cheers fellas Shes certainly caused me a few headaches over the past year! I found it really hard to bond with her untill she turned 12 months old really, she was just such a independant, stubborn f****r. But we have a mutual understanding now and have a much better bond. I think shes one of them dogs that 'works with ya, not for ya'. Its all a learning curve for us both though, the seasons just around the corner and I cant bloody wait...
  19. From this little pain in the arse... to this bigger pain in the arse... she has her faults but she a tryer thats for sure and still very much a young up and coming pup.
  20. good port this time of year when its a pain in the arse to set nets
  21. Dont need many ferrets to have an enjoyable days ferreting, not everyone is out to kill thousands. Only last season a lad put up a post, 30 rabbits with one hob! Although it is very nice being able to do those massive warrens that can take all morning and result in a very gud bag and they only really happen with a sack full of stinkers
  22. I work in chesterfield and everybody seems to have a lurcher/running dog, bet theres quite a few lads hammering the bunnies.
