Beaters required
Born Hunter replied to teal man's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Yes but as you say its because you have build up a bond of trust with your keeper, you wouldn't expect a team of 10-12 beaters and 3/4 pickers up to have free riegn on the ground out of season..... Its 30 quid up here with lunch and cock shoot at the end of the year, you cant ask fairer than that. I agree, my position is beyond fair. But then I do more than just beat now, but all earnt through beating. However for a worthy beater I personally feel abit of ferreting or pigeon shooting is more than fair, under control of course. I just think that 20-30 quid a day isnt really fair on a -
Beaters required
Born Hunter replied to teal man's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Keepers need to learn that to keep good beaters youve got to be willing to give them a bit back, more than just 20 quid and a bacon cob! Beaters are becoming harder and harder to find these days for these exact reasons. No body should expect to get anything much before they have proven themselves worthy but oportunities should be made available to worthy beaters. Through beating I have free roam of the shoot anytime of year, pigeon shooting, dog work, all sorts. Because I earnt it and the keeper sees the benefits from a trusting relationship between beaters and keepers. Not knocking yo -
Ill keep you in mind, thanks.

Anybody breeding ferrets from good PROVEN ratters? Im looking to get another couple of jills this summer specifically for ratting as well as alot of rabbiting obviously.

So Ireland isnt completeley devoid of hares then jiggy, lol. Great write up, always nice to read something a bit different. That kelpie lurcher sounds a great allround hunting companion. atb

Go and bleat about it to people that give a shit. That man made a stand for what he believed in and the b*****d antis murdered him. If the hunting community had our way the pilot and anyone else behind his death would be swinging from a f*****g rope!

Sounds like a recipe for carnage, unless in the hands of a sensible and experienced dog owner. I bet there are gangster wannabes out there wanking themselves silly over these. Probably got a bulldog bitch ready to be lined to produce the ultimate chav penis extentions! I do like the dark one on the right mind you. Handsome lad he is A friend of mines got an akita, softest dog I know, real gentle giant.

I would love to run a proper strong red stag in the north with no more than a brace of good running dogs that know the game. Probably more of a dream than a reality...

lurcher and terrier together in same kennel
Born Hunter replied to mrmen16's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I shouldnt worry about it pal, but im no dog behaviourist. As long as the lurcher doesnt have to sit in its kennel watching and listening to you playing/feeding the terrier there shouldnt be jealousy issues. Why cant you knock up another small terrier kennel? Tbh if ones gotta be in the house and one kenneled I would probably do it the other way round, just because terriers can be scutty dirty little fuckers when out and about, imo a running dog makes a better 'house' dog. Kennel em both if ya can though, no rush while pups. -
lurcher and terrier together in same kennel
Born Hunter replied to mrmen16's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Seriously lads, just search the pages of the forum and there are a number of threads where Terriers have been killed in kennell fights or seriously mauled in the back of a car. The threads all go the same way, "They have been kennelled together for years from pup and never had a disagreement..." blah blah. Everyone says the same they have said here and a another lesson has been learned the hard way. Only a few months back my lamping partener lost a terrier to a bull lurcher he was looking after while he was with the dogs in the yard, the terrier decided to start and in a flash the lurcher -
lurcher and terrier together in same kennel
Born Hunter replied to mrmen16's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Give it time. With more than 2 dogs kennelled together its not uncommon when a disagreement occurs that you end up with 2 on 1 and then you do get a mess. You may think they are the best of mates but shit happens, especially when terriers are involved! -
Whats wrong with scruffing? I agree that a picture of a dog being scruffed doesnt do the dog much justice but its hardly disrespectfull. Most terriers I know are quite happy being scruft. And as for pictures of dogs being scruft portraying terriermen in a poor light. Theres SHITE LOADS of worse pics on the net, for a start pics of dogs smashed to shit, now they dont do anyone any favours. I really dont get this 'scrufing is disrespectfull' thing that people seem to go on about...

2 terriers free to working home
Born Hunter replied to rabbit.slayer.no.1's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Your mate sounds like a right arse. He buys a couple of pet terriers and then decides his wallets a bit light so decides to get shot of them any way he can so he can buy in more stock just to breed, quite frankly, shite dogs! FFS keep him away from working terriers! -
tbh I dont see what all the fuss is about. I took Scots post in the light hearted humour it was intended. I think there has just been a bit of a missunderstanding between rfyl and scot. Keep up the posts rfyl, you enjoy posting and the majority of us enjoy reading them and looking at them. Dont take this internet lark too seriously, youll live longer, lol.

Lurcher and Terrier Dilemma
Born Hunter replied to Gaz_1989's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Terriers tend to start fights, Lurchers tend to finish them. Doesnt matter how good a friends they are, it can all explode over a silly little thing with terriers. Separate kennels imo, seen too many terriers killed because they fired up with a bigger dog! -
Wheres the macho bull cross lads when ya need em

you would think this is the truth but its not. i got pulled in my van on my way hunting i was searched and they found a 3 and a quater inch locknife ,the french wooden handled type designed for hunting ,in my van were three dogs my lamp rucksack and some fishing gear ,i was then arrested for carrying a bladed article in a public place and van impounded even though it was fully legal i got my van back and went to court i was fined 400 pounds and 120hours community service because it was a lock knife and over 3 inchs and even though they had stopped me i was in a public place the pavement ,the a

FFS! Don't set the lads off about Moslems again!

I know who you mean, they have a few racoons, meerkets, skunks etc. A racoon was caught near Lincoln a few years back...... My eyes almost popped out my head! I was running too the bloody lurcher to get her on a lead like a loon, I hadnt a clue what she would have made of it and really didnt want my dog ragging a bloody coon infront of all the sunday walkers. The little bugger was biting the bloke as he was putting it back on its harness, nothing serious, just like a ferret does when its playing. Im not a million miles away from lincoln, have to keep my eyes peeled...

Why do some lads thinks hes shite? Too hard or summat? Good result by the way, keep at it.

wont be long till their breeding in the wild in my opinion. soons as people get bored of them they will realease them into the wild. Well, it is a shame for the yanks to have all the fun with their staghounds! Im sure the terrier lads and keepers will sort them if and when their population does start increasing.
