In the beating line....
Born Hunter replied to Born Hunter's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
That was my motive for it, nice to get a bit of discussion going. I think the bigger shoots (consistently 100+ bird days) will have the ability to do things 'more traditionally' compared to the smaller DIY shoots where trying different things and adapting to the less than perfect shoot layout is often the order of the day. -
I'm inclined to agree wilth Molly, unless someone could put his quote into precise context. I like him because hes not affraid to speak his mind, not to mention the fact the top gear lads are all pro hunting/shooting. I do feel in recent years though that they are getting a bit desperate for good tv and are putting on a bit of an act. As for the strikes, I don't really know the ins and outs and don't particularly care but from the little I do know I'm inclined to say "welcome to the real world now stop whining". Fair play to em for making a stand though, rightly or wrongly.

The Fell huntsman I spent a week in the company of recently wears meindl, his fell boots were sat in the corner unused, never even mentioned em when we were talking about boots. Many others were wearing similar. Mine did me alright up there as they have the past 3 years but I think after this season I'll be after a new pair.

Forgive my ignorance on all this, am I right in the belief that individuals savings are covered by the FSCS for up to £85k per financial institution? So the majority of us need not worry about our savings and those that have over the 85k threshold just need to spread their savings about abit? Have I simplified it all abit too much?

gerfalcon.. Do you want to continue using this forum? Its a wonder If its full of people who you wish to rise above...why not head over to one of the upperclass stalking forums... OR maybe you could shut up being a complete pompous fuckwit and post something beneficial for everyone, instead of the drivel...excuse the French.. Ian he might but I don't ,In all honesty its not a place I want to be, having seen first hand and having to endure shite remarks from a certain individual . I bit my tongue long enough . Is always been my philosophy in life to help others , just as i was helpe

In the beating line....

Its not hard..... Flag when a bird gets up and looks like its heading away from the guns, dont flag like a mad man non stop.......stop tapping if theres a flush......and stop walking when everybody else does..... Simples... It really is that simple! That said we've had some right f**k ups this year and every one of them can be put down to people not listening and as a result the plan for that drive going out of the window. One thing that genuinely pisses me off is people not being able to take being told what their specific job is or to keep the line etc etc no matter how nicely it -

Thanks for your input people. -
You have both raised interesting points. What happens when the methogoly is deemed to be unethical and the justification judged to be non-existent? Where does the sporting aspect go? Stalking/ Deer control is not immune from these criticisms. Take the recent mass culls of Scotlands red deer herds in the name of Caledonia Forest preservation for instance. Judged/deemed by who? The courts? The League? Fellow hunters? Myself? Any judgement would be subjective, hence the only one that matters to me is my own, derived through my conscience and many hours of thought on my own mora

Gentlemen Sorry to but in but may I just add a line or two to your discussion. "On the point of hunting deer with hounds, be they long dogs or scent hounds, do you not feel that it is a more natural means of managing a wild population than shooting? I understand that there is 'usually' alot of thought that goes into which beasts to cull but surely man can not really know if that particular animal was the 'fittest' as it would in the natural world hunted by a natural predator?" The natural aspect of dogs hunting deer is almost negligible in our modern, man made and managed, and crow

I think you find that Lord Burns only supported the hunts not the coursers. Unlike some I do, do my research. The inquiry findings did have an impact on the vote, some in a positive way some in a negative way. Did I say savaged? I said I have witnessed the results of deer being coursed and the injuries caused. As for shit being talked.................. I leave that to others. Perhaps you could write a book about it? Yes it is illegal ad some look back to history whilst other persist. But not for long.aye! As I have witnessed countless shots taken at quarry with an unsuitable

Feck off the graveyard for somewhere safer. Get a lurcher! It's well known fact you don't need permission to hunt with a lurcher.

is it illegal to hunt and kill fox?
Born Hunter replied to bob fulcher's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
It's worth pointing out that foxing with a terrier for the protection of livestock is very much illegal. You can only bolt/dig fox with a terrier to protect game birds. Everyone should have this straight if ever the authorities turn up when you're on permission. If off permission then you are fecked no matter the reason. if thats the case, how do hunt terreir men go on then The professional terrierman is effectively redundant. Unless of course asked by landowners/gamekeepers to protect game birds.... The law is retarded, but it is the law. -

Wow they're big and ugly. Rats give me the willies, If I ever saw one of them I would be rattling off the auto behind me while running and screeming like a girl!

You're all sunshine and rainbows arn't ya! LOL

Bad news sells! Simple as that.

Fingers crossed they get nicked, the hunting world could do without them!

I read that this morning. They have my full support and respect. Having a couple of gurkhas guarding ya business would certainly deter scallys better than half the idiots with SIA badges these days. I wonder if they carry their Kukri with them while on duty? lol

Nothing quite like a terrier working a thick hedge, putting a strong cock bird up and standing stock still watching it as it rises, still motionless as the bird is shot. Then cast off to find the fallen bird, taking a good line and using its nose to find it's prize. Alls perfect and guns look on in amazement................. untill the little f****r finds it's bird and rags f**k out of it! lol

That tends to be the way we do things ideation. A bit of noise generally, not too much, and if the guns would benefit a call of 'forward', 'over', 'partridge' or 'woodcock' and a name if possible. On a much bigger shoot I don't think either are neccessary?
