  1.  And a lot of legs running like hell for the nearest trees! Haha................. I'm wondering where I can 'borrow' an angry boar from now to liven shoot days up a bit!
  2. Thanks for that quote RD. But it doesn't define what a badger sett is or mention anything about being ocupied or otherwise. My interpretation would be that it is only classed as a badger sett if actively being used by them? If a sett has been inactive for a prolonged period then it would no longer be classed as a 'badger sett' and so loose its protected status? Be interesting to see if the law does define its use of the term 'badger sett'.... I haven't a clue where to look?
  3. I'm sure you are right but how could anybody prove it is a badger sett if a badger hasn't used it in 5... 6... 10 years? Is it still classed as a badger sett? What is the deffinition of an unocupied sett? Badgers have been known to use drains, artificials, rabbit warrens, fox earths etc etc. are all these then protected as setts? I suppose my question is, what defines a badger sett?
  4. exactly! surely if it had been inactive for decades it wouldn't even be classed as a set any more would it? surely they don't protect empty holes? That's my understanding. But if someone found evidence to suggest otherwise, no matter how inconclusive, I would'nt like to be the man responsible for messing with it! If it was inactive then I can understand why a landowner would 'fill it in'. Most farmers want rid (legally of course), never mind encouraging them back with nice big vacant setts!
  5. How do you know the sett was still active? If the sett had been inactive for a period of time then I'm not sure if it would still be protected.
  6. Looking forward to the day they find their way to the midlands! I can just imagine one breaking from cover infront a line of beaters on a game shoot, that would get the pulse racing!
  7. Very rarely use a vehicle for actually hunting but for work on the shoot we use a yamaha kodiac quad and a polaris truck, possibly the ranger but not 100% sure. The polaris is a god send and makes the big jobs alot easier, but I love the quad, it's faster and smaller which means you can ride up the side of fields without leveling the edge of the crop.
  8. We net over what pens we can. It obviously isn't practical for some and doesn't help the poults outside the pen but it does seem to work. As proven by the fact that we have had to release the odd buzzard that has gotten it's self tangled in the net. The biggest problem is, as lab says, the constant stress the birds are under from the buzzards just hunting the pen sites. I'm gona see if leaving rabbits/pigeons/squirrels etc about has any effect in keeping them away this year, but i somehow doubt it. Oh well, time to crack on with the vermin we are aloud to kill.
  9. I can't imagine what I would be driven to commit if constantly being threatened and attacked like that. His familys lives are literally at risk! It's a damn fact that the very least I would do would be to have a couple of handy alsations in the yard 24/7.
  10. I wonder how many of them went unsold and how many of them unsold were just dumped in the nearest field on the way home? What a f*****g shame.
  11. Have you considered a proffession in the oil industry?...................................................
  12. Getting ours out this Saturday. Plenty of magpies about! The hard work starts again.... lol.
  13. Interesting Nik, I'm a Physicist in the Oil industry. I work with Geoscience guys. Im a gamekeeper in the gamekeeping industry one of my syndicate guns sell oil, dont ask me where or anything like that but put it this way, he has a full wallet, always new cars with the first 3 letters of the registration plates being OIL plus a very expencive to keep wife really nice chap may i add Well unfortunately I'm just one of the many cogs in a big machine that fill his wallet! LOL. R&D aint that bad but if the gamekeeping industry ever needed a Physicist I would be at the fron

  15. 38lb 1oz!!!! The bloke holding it is 5'7"! It's about the size of a bloody farm collie ffs, never mind lambs, that thing could pull down a bloody tup, lol. Would love to see one that big alive. It would be really interesting to see how their behaviour and hunting changes with such size if at all? Do they prey on larger quarry?
  16. What does that prove? And how does it go against anything that Sandy said? Nobody is denying that genetics can be manipulated artificially in a lab. That however is a long way from what Painless is suggesting.
  17. Good hunting mates are harder come by than good dogs. Never let the fuckers down and hope you find some that are as keen and honest as yourself. But don't have to rely on anyone either... get out there on ya own..... put in the miles and the hours and get results off ya own back. I've spent many hours waiting on others and feeling utterly sick with them. People get asked once now and f**k em if they're not there on time.
  18. That is one hell of a question! If you have the answer let me know and I'll get the Noble prize garunteed! To even begin to answer it you need to understand General relativity, Quantum mechanics with it's many sub catagories and theories, gravitons and quite possibly the theoretical higgs boson. It's a big question.
  19. How is gravity a can of worms? Without it we would all be floating about lol. Theres no denying gravity The vast majority of the scientific community feel the same about evolution, that's the point. All of science as we know it is theory, theorys to fit observable facts. That's where people get confused, they read evolution theory and think that it's unproven. But by definition all of science is theory. Newton's theory of gravity, Einstein's theory of special relativity etc etc. Do people doubt these scientific 'theories'? Of course a small minority do, but not because any scrap of fact
  20. Not always the case no, but I think it's fair to say that there are some impressive crosses out there, hence their success in the field at a few specialist jobs. But like I said, just another line of thought somewhat off topic. Interesting to hear of those problems though.
  21. We park our cars in the same lot .......I cant speak for greyhounds as i dont have much experience with them......but as regards the apbt,i would rather they simply died out and no longer exist as a breed rather than watch them end up a fashion statement or a piece of home furniture like some breeds......... When a person has seen such perfection to watch it deteriorate feels like a sin. Fortunately the Greyhound is of no interest to those that don't strive for that perfection. Likewise I have little to no experience with the apbt but I can see it's sad times for another canine athlete
  22. Any reasonable person would draw that same conclusion Charts. Though I admit, it isn't proof of evolution it certainly makes evolution plausible. Far more plausible than any other competing theory. I think I'll stand in the corner of the academics with this one...
  23. Can't dissagree with any of that. The impression I am getting from the news is that we are to feel sorry for these people and shocked at the poor conditions they are forced to live in in our super 1st world country. I don't blame them at all, I would quite happily take advantage of another country if it improved my own families quality of life. But that doesn't give me any sympathy for them or compassion. Like I said, they came here to take advantage of our country at a atime of national hardship and they copped out. Screw em, if only the authorities would take a harder a stance on such things
  24. We,re not talking about retired racers.....i totally agree with you, hence ive donated to the retired greyhound trust many times....... We,re talking about a performance bred dog being used as a pet INSTEAD of a racer.............as far as im aware theres not a retired pit bull trust where ex fighters live out a happy life in the home................there is for greyhounds and thats great..............but it still doesnt excuse putting any performance bred dog into the family home from day 1 to cope with the strains and stresses of being a family pet IN PREFERENCE to being where that dog reall
  25. Probably better accomodation than where they came from. They come here illegally to take advantage of our country at a time of hardship, f**k em. I hope the authorities deal with them apropriately, both the illegal imigrants and the landlords. Unfortunately the media in the countries where they all originate probably wont be covering this very much.
