So young folks should leave the country in search of a house to buy in cash.... Is that what you're saying? You did, well done, but for the majority that's not an option or desire. So a mortgage makes financial sense. Which was my point.

The marinade makes all the difference and with the rabbit the wrapping of pancetta largely protects it from the drying heat. Give it a go mate. I wouldn't BBQ any game without a marinade now, imo it's essential with such lean meat. It's not melt in your mouth tender, but it's a million miles away from tough. It's firm and juicey, full of flavour!

There are, some properties around the 40k mark, in pretty rough areas but nonetheless affordable. You find me a stone cottage for that money in the UK within 20 miles of an industrial hub though... Then consider how long it'd take a young person to save up enough to buy that property in cash and do it up to liveable.... it'd take your average young professional at least 5 years of living under mum and dads roof and saving almost every penny... Now consider a more realistic scenario where you have a young apprentice/skilled worker on a lower wage and having higher living costs with no parental

His recipe specifically says "rabbit, preferably wild" The folks I fed that evening are certainly not strangers to fine cuisine and they were very impressed, like you they were sceptical when they heard what was on the barby. LOL.

Lol yes, but word of advice dont 'book' this kind of holiday in North America/Canada, you can buy visitor hunting tickets from most local wal-marts etc and crack on... millions of hectares of crown land to hunt over Yeah but surely you need some sort of guide initially? Without that you're a bit fecked. I wouldn't have a clue what I'm doing... One day though, I'd love to hunt in North America. For some Africa is the ultimate but for me N.America has the greatest appeal.

Absolutely! It was an Autumn BBQ, right at the end of September, weather had been gorgeous all day. The ducks were Mallard from a few early driven days and the rabbit I had shot flushed over my terrier which is great early season shooting imo. Role on September! Just don't treat them like bangers and burn the shit out of them! lol. The duck breasts were sliced into 3-4" chunky strips. Really suprising how well they go with a nutty dipping sauce! I'll try to find the duck recipe too, it was from a youtube vid...

This was the rabbit recipe I think. http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/game-recipes/grilled-and-marinated-rabbit-coniglio-marinato-alla-griglia Dead simple to do and great. Had a couple of rabbit virgins that were rabbit whores by the end of it.

Rabbit is excellent BBQed! I did it last year for a friends family along with duck and it was sublime! I can't remember exactly what I did but there was a olive oil, thyme, garlic and a few other things for a marinade which the loins were soaked in for a good hour. Then each loin was wrapped in I think panchetta and skewered. The duck was done in a spicy soy sauce based marinade with a soy and peanut butter dipping sauce. Deffo doing it again this year after duck season has started!

Hypothetical Situation...................
Born Hunter replied to Blackbriar's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
Is it not basically poaching/theft? You wouldn't be allowed to take fowl off the same water so why would you be allowed to take crays from under it? -
Which one is based on you Gnash?

Did you throw you're mortar board lol It was tradition at our place that only post grads wore those silly things. I bought a house for 94k in 2008 to live in and put 10% down on it. In 2011 the same houses were selling for 50-60k. I lived in an army pad for nearly 5 years letting the house out. Left the army and still have it rented out. Thats what im saying I was very very lucky I was in the army with steady job and low rent or I would have walked away from the house and took the hit. In 20 years you'll have a different opinion I bet. I'm still struggling to get my head around your figures but whatever. In 20 years you will have spent little if anything more than you would have done on a rent

Themoocher, if I understand correctly, how can you get a buy to let mortgage to be able to let your property and be in negative equity? I thought most mortgage lenders required 20% equity for a buy to let mortgage?

That's well and good mate but in todays climate you would have to save 10 mortgage deposits to buy that pile of stone. Borrowing money is perfectly safe, just use a bit of common.

Strange then that my .22 hornet was quieter than my pals .17hmr 35grain bullet@ 3100fps @ the muzzle, compared with a 17 grain bullet @ 2550 fps @ the muzzle, and that was with the same moderator on each rifle, curious eh ? Curious yeah but without a precision measurement it's difficult to tell what is actually louder. Were the circumstances exactly the same for the 'listener' in both cases, ie position relative to the muzzle and environment? Also is the Hornet mod actually efficient with a hmr? How does the geometry of the 22 hornet compare to the 17 hmr aerodynamically? Too many fac -

The rapidly expanding gases should be contained by a decent moderator. The magnitude of the shock wave generated with a supersonic projectile should be dependant on projectile geometry and velocity I'd of thought. All things being equal, a higher velocity projectile will create a larger shock wave and appear louder. -
Use fibers in my AL390 all the time, no issues.

Vid worked for me, my little black fecker does the same.... not on gravel though! Proper little commando crawl. -
TBH mate, I'd gladly stick one in that 2x1 and two in that 2x1.5. But that's just me, I'm sure folks will let me know if I'm a cruel b*****d. LOL

1.5 x 2 sounds fine for a spaniel. They don't need a fecking paddock to run about in. lol

If you've paid 40k in 5 years on a 90k loan you're being done mate, or it's a short term mortgage. My sons paying less than 4k on a 70k loan over 30 years. Thats at lthe very least 1k less than the same house would cost to rent each year so even if rents stayed the same for 30 years and the house didn't increase in value he would be 30 grand plus the value of the house better off by buying. do you think I dont relise that. That is the point some people on this topic are trying to make. Thats the differnce a couple % rise in a mortgage makes it criples people. Bought house in 200

Part Time Keepers Help Angus
Born Hunter replied to themightybuck's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
Sounds a nice little deal for somebody with the experience and motivation for it. DIY shoots are run like that the length and breadth of the country. I'd sack off the driven day in favour of more walked up but that's just me. I'm sure once you get to know and trust each other new opportunities can be discussed and negotiated.
