Blackbird, now there's a properly quick jet.
-
So there IS an answer? Thank goodness for that Ive wondered for why for years. Mind you I suppose I could have googled it, BUT I promise I wont I want to hear what you and others have for a theory. Nice try BH not sure that quite works though Well, it might have worked but it misses the fact that operationally the Vulcan would fly very low so as to keep out of radar view. I stupidly assumed a similar approach would be taken as what the yanks took when bombing Japan, very high altitude, but they did that simply because the Japs had nothing that could touch them at that height
-
Huh, just read the real reason and I was completely wrong. Quite the opposite in fact......
-
Good question, maybe because as a strategic bomber it would operate from high altitude so making camo on it's belly insignificant. Whereas a lower altitude tactical bomber would be far more visible and so benefit from a sky coloured belly...... maybe? LOL

In the 80's a number of Hawks were modified to carry sidewinders to operate in an actual wartime interceptor role. I believe it was done to bolster fighter numbers to repel a large scale Soviet strike. Although they lacked the sophisticated systems a proper fighter would have, the intention was that they would be guided by Tornadoes enabling them to act as close range fighters. I thought that was quite interesting myself, how a cheap jet could still be used in a modern wartime role.

Modern warfare aircraft for a pure out and out fighter, the English Electric Lightning for me There used to be one of those in an old yard by the A1 at Newark. It was there for years, covered in graffiti, on show for everyone that drove by. Then a few years ago it had to be scrapped, I think it was in a dangerous state or something.

Hope For Briton Facing 350 Lashes In Saudi.
Born Hunter replied to stealthy1's topic in General Talk
Silly twat. If Cameron takes a hard stance with the Saudi's on this he may well end up costing the UK business. 'So what' I hear folks say, well that will cost good folks jobs and all because some daft twat thought he was above the law of the land. Fortunately I think Dave has more sense than that..... -
what was the latest model/upgrade of the tornado ? when they due to retire any idea mate? they seem to be around a long time to me for some reason I think of them as bit old, that's not say I don't think they served the RAF well and the pilots seem to love them. It seems they are finally ironing out the f35 problems out maybe we will get a plane to match them big tubs just a shame they didn't put arrester wires on I think EDIT just seen you put last 30/40 years lol I'm not sure but they are equipping the Typhoon to fulfil the same role that the Tornado does now, once the F-35 is operat

Tornado for me, flying low and fast. A plane designed for high risk missions, playing right into the strengths of the RAF pilots. For the last 30-40 years when a NATO force has needed recon or something bombing deep into enemy territory with strong air defences, they have looked to the RAF and the Tonka. Be another sad day when that fleet is finally retired.

Quite looking forward to seeing the F-35 in action myself. Fully intend to go down to see HMS QE with her air group in a few years. Never been to a naval base so might as well wait for a good one.

Where my parents live, where I grew up, we were quite privileged really. They've probably seen the Vulcan a dozen times this summer, over the years obviously many more times. A couple of months back my dad saw it point it's nose up and floor it, climbing like feck and making a hell of a racket, right over the village. He'll take that memory to his deathbed I'm sure. It's not uncommon to see Spitfires, Hurricanes, The Lancaster, even Wellingtons and Dakotas. As well as modern aircraft obviously. Seeing a couple of F-15s real high, having what looked like a mock dogfight was cool. Th

I think there's a bit of history and rivalry between the IAF and RAF. Simply, the Su-30 has better manoeuvrability but the Typhoon has better systems. Superior missiles and systems beat manoeuvrability anyway, the Falklands proved that. But war games will never really show who can do what and everybody wants to bluff and bullshit for national pride. The Typhoon seems to be one of, if not, the most effective 4th generation air superiority fighter out there. I think even some 5th gen fighters would be a little twitchy having to face a Typhoon.

Fair play learning such a skill but 30 quid for 21 hours work is f***ing sickening! Even as an apprentice. Good luck. I'd be looking for a better paying full time apprenticeship in the same trade, using your current experience as a step up from all the other applicants.

The Lotto should look after it. it's an icon. as for spares there was a few used as gate guards, waddington had one Still do, you can see it on google maps...... as well obviously from the A15, lol.

Sat in my folks garden this afternoon having a coffee with the old man on what has been a beautiful autumn day... ...heard that familiar roar and looked up to see the Vulcan going home. It's been a common site in the sky's around there. I believe today was her last flight. Something I'll definitely miss seeing...

Oh to have such freedom... I'd be after a 300winmag and be getting on to some elk and bear myself! And obviously a pistol, just because.

If it ain't right Mal it ain't right, but you'll know when the time comes. Imo It just ain't worth the hassle unless they're something special. But I'm something of an expert in being hassle free! LOL Genuinely wish you all the best matey. You'll figure out whatever you need to and 12 months down the road look back and be happier for it.
-
Good luck, on both counts. Let us know if you see owt.

Just to point out, modern day humans are already a subspecies, all of our sister subspecies having become extinct. So to reclassify all the separately identifiable people's (races) today would require a sub-subspecies classification or the reclassification of the modern human as a species and no longer a subspecies. That's a mouth full! LOL
-
There wouldn't be a dominant one mate, either a species is completely made up by two or more subspecies or it doesn't have any and is just ranked as a species.
-
If humans were any other animal or bird they would be reclassified as subspecies without a shadow of a doubt. There are so many differences across the globe. I didn't want to wade into this emotional debate, on an otherwise harmless issue, but I would have to agree with you. Taxonomy, on this level at least, seems very subjective. My non-expert opinion is that, for the human case politics has too much of an influence. To start using the terms sub-species and hybrids etc in relation to the human species would cause a lot of people headaches so it's just avoided.

Putin Checkmates Obama On New World Order Wwlll
Born Hunter replied to swg dave's topic in General Talk
So strategically it's easier to overthrow Assad in favour of a pro US government than it is to just run the pipeline through Iraq? -
I've got a blue one, I use it for travelling through space and time.
