  1. I remember him now, he didn't post after that did he? Even some of the non soldiers who knew their history were able to trip him up if I remember rightly. I was half way through a book about the conflict at the time if I remember and knew a bit about 3Cdo. So I searched for this phantom commando unit as I was quite surprised/suspicious that I hadn't heard of it. I didn't say owt as it wasn't my place being non military. If I remember he managed to dream up a unit that was never even in existence during WWII when there were dozens of commando units! LOL. Either that or I had to go back as far
  2. Okay, my point was that the entire UK Commando force falls within 3Cdo, so if THL Walt's unit was real it would've be found listed as a part of 3Cdo. Forget I said 3Cdo Brigade or 33Cdo, basically he claimed to have served in a fantasy unit in the Falklands and got found out! LOL

  4. There was a fella on here a year or two back that tried to claim he was a Royal and served in the Falklands. Claimed he was in 33Cdo or some such non existent Commando unit. Either Socks, Deerman or Stiffy called him on it. LOL
  5. Because a banking crises would kill the country, it would affect every one of us badly. A crises in any other minor industry not so much. It's not fair, it's not supposed to be, but it's the way it is. Strategic decisions have to be ruthless. I work in an industry that's not exactly healthy right now and my old man is being laid off as a result of the collapsing steel industry, shit happens unfortunately.... With all due respect mate (and I am a lifelong capitalist) the so called banking "crisis" wasn't a crisis at all, it was a fraud. The people at the top of all the major investment b
  6. If that's how you see it then fair enough, but I don't agree at all. Some industries are more important to this country than others, somebody has to make those decisions. Some industries aren't competitive in their modern market place. It's shit but that's business. I'm living with it and trying not to let my judgements get clouded with emotion.
  7. A f***ing hard pill to swallow! Look at how the defence and nuclear industries have reduced in size over the past 50 years, these are industries people with a similar background to me would quite naturally fall into and do with a bit of nationalistic pride. To the man on the street it all seems so obvious, but to the man at the top making strategic decisions while trying to appease the electorate it all looks very different I'm sure.

  9. Nice write up Sussex. You're one of the few that keep this site about actual hunting. Do you ever get to stalk much other than Fallow?
  10. No worries, I hope I didn't come across as a wanker. Just wanted to clarify it and my own understanding.
  11. Like the US SEALs, it seems every f****r that has been in the SAS writes a book about it! LOL There are other lesser known units that shout a lot less.
  12. Okay, but aren't I right in saying that CITES do not classify as endangered, vulnerable etc? They classify by their appendices system, of which there are three. Any reference to endangered or vulnerable is a reference to the IUCN classification. The two systems are for two different ends. The African Elephant for the most part falls under Appendix I, which means CITES considers them threatened with extinction. But any IUCN classified animal can be threatened with extinction, so it's not something that alone should be cause for environmentalist excitement or mean they are endangered. Wh
  13. No probs, but the only CITES info I can find follows the guidance of the IUCN......? It's my understanding that CITES are very closely linked to the IUCN also, but with a more specific mandate. Edit; This might be out of date? https://cites.org/eng/com/sc/61/E61-44-02-A1.pdf CITES listing status and IUCN Red List status All populations of African elephant have been listed on CITES Appendix I since 1989, except for four national populations that were transferred to Appendix II (Botswana, Namibia and Zimbabwe in 1997, and South Africa in 2000). The African elephant is currently l
  14. Can we at least get one thing straight, the African Elephant is NOT classified as endangered. That's by the IUCN! They classify it as Vulnerable, which means it is considered at risk of becoming endangered but NOT endangered. And even if it was, sport hunting has literally brought species from very sorry states of endangerment to much healthier population status! Everybody goes on about how it makes them 'feel', it's apparently the way to think in the 21stC.... we've completely forgotten how to be sensible and objective.
  15. Out of interest, how exactly did you get the stock? They're $129, right? Boyds won't export stocks to the UK with a value of over $100 without you having a federal export license. As you can see from my thread, I had a bit of bother with this! So how the feck did you get hold of it? LOL
  16. A lot of what you are saying is exactly the same as what friends of mine say who have kept the breed. They keep spaniels now but their daughter has an Akita bitch. Her bitch is just a big pup really, soft as grease but very aloof with strangers. The dog weighs more than she does but is under complete control by her. The dog doesn't have an aggressive bone in it but that's not to say their old dogs didn't.....
  17. Quick update. Bought the walnut stock off of eBay and fitted it this weekend. A little heavier on my wallet but I'm happy with the end result. Old... and new... Now to kill something, lol.
  18. That's hard to read Lukey, hopefully he dies soon giving your family and particularly your sister some sort of closure.
  19. the only part that disagree born mate is the anyone can plug a nonce statement . I don't think anyone can as if it was that easy it would happen a lot more . No? Maybe just me then, I imagine killing such people, the abuser of your child, would come very easily to most. I think what stops most people is that they don't want to f**k their lives up anymore for a simple act of revenge, they want to be their for their family knowing what evils are out there and the troubles that they are living with as a result of such an evil act. It's just revenge, it's selfish and emotionally driven,
  20. Doing that isn't for the protection of your kids, it's a selfish act of revenge. In fact, I'd consider it counter to protecting your kids, you've willingly put yourself in a position where you will very likely be taken away from your kids. It's completely understandable but it's not something I consider particularly admirable. Anybody can plug a nonce, not everybody can put their anger and pride behind them for the sake of their families future.
  21. There's a famous akita called Hachiko, even made a film about the dog. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hachik%C5%8D In 1924, Hidesaburō Ueno, a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo, took Hachikō, a golden brown Akita, as a pet. During his owner's life, Hachikō greeted him at the end of each day at the nearby Shibuya Station. The pair continued their daily routine until May 1925, when Professor Ueno did not return. The professor had suffered a cerebral hemorrhage and died, never returning to the train station where Hachikō was waiting. Each day for the next n
  22. My thoughts exactly...
  23. Only Akita I've ever known is the softest heap of fat and fur I've ever met. Soft as a f***ing brush. Big, lazy dog that would make a cracking rug but that's about it. I don't think this bitch is particularly representative of the breed though.....
