  1. Yeah. I guess a lot of whiter than white do everything by the book types would have a right time tearing the man down for lack of standards or whatever but to me I think his attitude is great. He loves what he does and just cracks on, not afraid to show his mistakes or say non PC things. His country looks f***ing fantastic! Mountain hunting is one of my dream rifle hunts and his Tahr hunts look great!
  2. Anybody follow this chap on YouTube? I really like him, dead grounded and matter of fact. Good sense of humour. Basically earns his living from hunting, trapping and rafting. Hell of a life. Makes me wonder what the f**k I'm playing at, LOL.
  3. That's fair enough, you're right. I couldn't see how velocity would have no effect, but I was wrong about the direction of that effect. Makes sense when you think about it, the energy in the shock wave becomes less dense due to being stretched out by the increased velocity. Soooooooo now we have decided that the theory says a moded 300winmag is quieter than a 308win?
  4. As I understand it, the speed is irrelevant. Once you break the sound barrier you break the sound barrier, it doesn't matter by how much. The size of the boom (crack) is related to the size of the object causing it and thus the amount of air moved, so the larger the calibre, the larger and heavier the bullet and the larger the boom. Without researching it I'm fairly sure that the dB level of the shock wave is caused by the instantaneous pressure change (what characterises a shock wave) which I believe will be a function of velocity as well as projectile geometry. Bullet mass/weight
  5. Mad Jack Churchill - "If it wasn't for those damn Yanks, we could have kept the war going another 10 years!" There are lots of countries, peoples and empires renowned for their military capability, it's too difficult to compare them across history.
  6. I received my 10x42 vipers on monday. Been out a few evenings with them, setting my trail cam and generally doing recon. I'm very pleased with them. I can only compare them to the swaro glass I have on my rifle and in absolute honesty I'd say their low light performance and clarity is equal with only their periferal clarity just a bit lacking. For £380 I'm really very happy and as of now, am very glad I didn't spend 3x as much on a premium brand. Yes, the warranty is fully transferable. If these get dropped down a cliff and smash to bits, vortex will replace them free of charge! That's cla
  7. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/04/28/eu-referendum-fact-checking-the-big-claims/ Analysis of a few of the 'facts' on both sides....
  8. Yes, very regularly. I don't think I could be without a all rounder type terrier. Especially when foxing with shotgun, absolutely essential imo. Limited this time of year though with nesting birds.
  9. That's an interesting theory but I'm not sure it's supported by evidence. If that is correct then a moderated 300winmag should be quieter than a moderated 308win? My own suspicions are that most mods are not designed to perform optimally with the 17hmr. They are either designed to perform optimally for 17 centerfire rounds or for 22 rimfire.
  10. I know a few folks that have done that. One at least was offered the voluntary redundancy package totally dependent on whether he got a job with Rolls Royce. They didn't want to lose him, but knowing he was waiting on a recent interview the management would rather he made up part of that recent batch of redundancies than someone else only for him to potentially hand in his notice if successful. Anyway, the lad got the job and is fecking laughing now! Some of the old boys have gone down to part time, other staff have used the opportunity to join family businesses or take up other job offers
  11. It's not that load, lol. I find the crack of a 22 head shot just as disturbing as the sonic crack of a 17 bullet. I recently put my SAK on my hmr having disappointingly rendered my Sirocco useless, personally I think the Sirocco was superior. I've never tried a 17 cal specific mod, I think that's half the problem, all standard mods are 22 cal.
  12. Been working under a perpetual cycle of mass redundancies for the last 18 months. It's gash but that's business. Makes no odds how good you or your colleagues think you are at your job, it's how much your managers value you. The matrix of doom is just a politically correctway of justifying that.
  13. Very enjoyable. The sort of quality that would be expected of a TV series....... With the amount of frontiers type series coming out of the US, it's a surprise that something like this isn't being snapped up by our domestic channels.
  14. Mk 4's are banned for use on stoats and for rabbits you want a mk6.. Are you sure? Is that a recent thing then? Banned for Rabbit and Mink but not Stoats was my understanding?
  15. and your genetics play a big part, how big you will go. i done weights for 3 years, and deff got stronger from the 1st day i ever started, but could never go more than 18lb above my natural weight 12st 7lb , and thats eating well plenty of good food In my opinion genetics are probably the single biggest factor in all of this. We are born into a handicapped race genetically and you can only optimise all the other factors to achieve YOUR best, and frankly that still probably wont put you anywhere near THE best. I think a lot of folks get insecure about that fact, the fact we are not
  16. i was led to believe that creatine baisically just helps the muscle hold more water so it gives the impression of a bigger muscle, so it dont improve actuall muscle size. not sure how right that that info is. What people call 'muscle gain' is usually a combination of water weight, glycogen (glyco something at least) and finally actual muscle protein. I can't remember the physiological reason but yes creatine increases water retention which makes your muscles look more 'swollen' or 'massive'. But that's not why performance athletes value it, they value it for it's actual role in the bod
  17. Just to point out, creatine is not some unnatural drug. It naturally forms part of your diet in red meat and is produced by the body! It's a supplement that's been used for years and probably the most researched/studied one there is. The fact that it is already found in your diet means that responses to supplementing will be different on an individual basis, some will benefit, some won't, largely depending on how much is already in your diet. The role it plays is as a very short term energy supply, keeping your muscle's creatine supplies stocked theoretically enables you to push strength/power
  18. Cool. We didn't do too bad in the last couple. There won't be a fecking war. Anybody that believes the EU is in any significant way fundamental to peace in Europe needs to have a hard look at a few facts. The EU's direction with defence policy is very fecking dangerous if anything. But yes, we will by far be the most capable force in the region and other than France the only one likely to get any sympathy from the yanks.
  19. "There will be war in Europe if we leave!"............. f***ing LOL!
  20. Just an FYI on vortex gear. All their optics come with their VIP lifetime warranty which is an "unconditional promise to repair or replace the product, absolutely free, no matter the cause". They'll replace them even if you break them! Anyway, I'm expecting delivery of mine this week...
  21. It's the difference in hunting culture. If I understand correctly you chaps conserve your game populations for sustainable harvests by citizens for personal use. Whereas in the UK deer populations are either privately managed as an economic sporting asset or simply culled for economic reasons. For those that are simply culling deer to control their numbers and sell the carcass to a game dealer it's not uncommon for head shots to be taken where possible to get a better price.
  22. Most expensive place I've been to was Sportsman Gun Center. I can't remember their hmr price, think it was around £14.50? But I do remember I bought Federal 25-06 ammo from them at £36 a box, Hadfield's has the exact same at £28!
  23. Where the feck are you buying hmr ammo at that price? LOL My local does it at 12 quid a box! http://hadfieldguns.com/ammunition/bullets/rimfire.html
  24. Go for the 30-06.......... that'll put you in the position to be able to take the piss out of ya brother for having a 'girls thirty caliber'. Something you can remind him of just as he's f****d a stalk up.
  25. I'm just going to throw it out there, could British industry have given the MoD better value for money? Do we have the capability to carry out the project ourselves or the need? Yeah giving all the contracts to native defence firms is great on paper but it leads to piss taking and we don't have a large enough demand for hardware to have a very competitive native industry. Foreign sales is always a way of improving that but still we are where we are. It's a win in that we are at least kitting out % of the vehicles, we could have just bought a suitable replacement off the shelf and had n
