Chinese To Build Nuclear Bomb In South Of England
Born Hunter replied to PeskyWabbits's topic in General Talk
This is off Wikipedia, discredit the source if you like. "The smoldering graphite, fuel and other material above, at more than 1200 °C, started to burn through the reactor floor and mixed with molten concrete from the reactor lining, creating corium, a radioactive semi-liquid material comparable to lava. If this mixture had melted through the floor into the pool of water, it was feared it could have created a serious steam explosion that would have ejected more radioactive material from the reactor. It became necessary to drain the pool." -

If it'd have hit water you'd have had a steam explosion, which is bad but not a thermonuclear explosion! Any suggestion of that is really based on very ermmm 'fantastic' theory. A nuclear weapon is very highly engineered. Yes it uses the same physics but controlling it to make it a violent explosion require very precise engineering! Comparing a nuclear meltdown to a bomb is like comparing firewood to Semtex. -

You're entitled to believe what you like matey. I'm saying what you have been told is complete garbage. It's a terribly liberal use of scientific theory at best and a complete lie at worst. The amount of water does not mater! You cannot make a thermonuclear bomb by dropping a critical mass into a body of water! I'll have a quick look at the doc if I get chance. Cheers. -

It has it's risks and when it goes wrong it is definitely worse than similar with other power stations but the risks and consequences are largely overstated by the media and public opinion. Most folks know f**k all about atomic energy and nuclear interactions other than what they have seen on sci-fi films. The fact that many think a nuclear reactor is simply a controlled bomb highlights this. How many folks realise they have a alpha emitting nuclear source in their fire alarms? How many people does the average Joe think died as a direct cause of Chernobyl? Could the average person even exp -

The UK’s current R&D landscape; The UK has established a reputation for performing world-leading research in science and technology, both in industry and academia. We played a pioneering role in bringing civil nuclear energy to market 60 years ago, and are now conducting world-leading R&D to decommission and clean up our historic facilities, overseen by the NDA. We are also at the cutting edge of R&D into nuclear fusion technology, and fully engaged with international collaborations through the UK national fusion laboratory at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy (CCFE). What expertise? BH who seems to know his stuff in this area has said Britain doesn't have the expertise necessary to build a nuclear power plant without foreign input. I may have been a bit dramatic in saying that we couldn't do it, lol. I'll admit that before this turns into an argument based on half truths. We probably could, we still have a nuclear industry obviously just one that we seem to have stepped back from. The investment in UK nuclear power isn't what it was. It's difficult to just let an industry wither and then throw a huge project at it and expect it to be able to handle -
Never mind Raccoons and Lynx, there's a f***ing African Lion allegedly running about Cornwall now!!!! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/08/02/lion-on-the-loose-in-cornwall-sparks-police-hunt1/

We literally couldn't if we wanted to. With the anti nuclear movement decades ago the arse fell out of British nuclear technology. We just don't have the expertise anymore. We'd be starting again from scratch and that would take more time and money. The Chinks have a bad name from their mass production of the worlds shite but they are capable of producing quality too, especially when under the QC of a Western country. Tbh I don't know much of the details of how this is to be done though. I know people directly affected by it. Universities stopped teaching courses, we stopped research and -

if the reactor in chernobyl had fell through that concrete floor and hit the water below. Well thats exactly what it would have been. A thermo nuclear explosion they reckoned about 50times more powerfull than hiroshima. .im not anti nuclear power, but i do think that no expense or safety checks be spared when building one. With respect mate, that claim is fear mongering bullshit. As is so common with nuclear energy. https://www.physicsforums.com A nuclear weapons is a hell of a precise and controlled piece of engineering. You can't just add a critical mass to a bucket of water and level a ci -

LOL. I know that a reactor going pop ain't good fella but that doesn't make it a nuclear bomb or justify use of the term. The inverse square law is for radiation as you know, in the event of a reactor melting down its the radioactive isotopes being expelled into the atmosphere that causes issues. Simple gamma radiation is fairly straightforward to deal with. -

Just an FYI, a nuclear power station is not a nuclear bomb and to the best of my knowledge cannot be turned into one. -
Why would it? Do I need to answer that question? I do not know the protocol for air travel near the area. But like you said surely they are not allowed to breach these restrictions, how it entered this airspace without getting shot down is hard for me to accept. Yes, why would it specifically have a particularly advanced air defence system when the System that defends the entire US was probably considered suitable? I'm not sure where the nearest USAF QRA base is for the DC area but commercial aircraft operate around DC. If such an imminent threat pops up how effective will the F-16s rea

When I was last on a flight coming into Heathrow, the pilot gave us a bit of a tour of London, lol. Doing a big circle low enough to point out the houses of parliament if i recall. No typhoon would have been able to stop him obliterating any of the most important government buildings in London! The systems in place were supposed to stop that ever occurring. I think 911 showed how mistaken they were.

Why would the Pentagon have had a particularly advance air defence system? Pre 911 I don't think the yanks ever considered such an aerial attack on the mainland at all plausible. I'd of thought the risk associated with having a system like what our warships have too great in such a commercially busy domestic area. The risk of accidentally shooting down a commercial airline would probably be too great to justify it. Dealing with aerial threats in peace time is the USAFs job with their fighters. The purpose of the Air Defense Identification Zone is in theory to stop any aerial threats ever penet

Frankly, Glenn Ross looked in better shape! There are genuine elite level bodybuilders that do look like the Incredible Hulk, absolute mutant freaks of nature, built from real muscle tissue and not stuff that you could run your truck on! I can almost understand some desperate bodybuilders being tempted to use the stuff to touch up minor imperfections, but to replace conventional bodybuilding ENTIRELY with it is a whole new level of retarded. Fortunately I doubt any of them step foot in a gym, they'd look like total f***ing idiots when a guy half their 'volume' is lifting double wha

f***ing hell mate, that's not what you want to have to deal with! That said, I'm envious that you get to live in such a wild place. The UK have a nasty habit of looking across the pond and just thinking you're all batshit. There's a real lack of understanding of what's going on and what the culture is over there. I've found myself interested in US history and the Republican state/political system lately, particularly why the feck the yanks seem hell bent on ever greater authority considering their history and alleged core values. Anyway, I sympathise with your thoughts but for some reason

Yep, but a factual quote! Where though, Chris? I've heard it said before and I've not managed to find where. https://www.truthorfiction.com/donald-trump-said-republicans-are-the-dumbest-group-of-voters/ "In the end, we couldn’t find any instances of Donald Trump saying that Republicans are the dumbest group of voters. We’re calling this rumor fiction." Makes no odds to me, I'm not a particular fan of his.

Has anybody heard of the IUCN and their conservation status system? There's a lot of "endangered animal" talk on here. Folks do realise that that the Southern White Rhino and African Elephant are not endangered right?

Not true matey. http://www.factcheck.org/2015/11/bogus-meme-targets-trump/

'If you could choose 5 rifles which calibres do you think are the most versitile to cover the spectrum and would give you virtually a rifle for any occasion' The question was 'any occasion' you'll be squashed by a charging Elephant with out my .470 Nitro! lol! ' For any occasion, lol, okay. Hunting only? I'll need that 300winmag in a highly accurized mountain rifle setup for mountain hunts in NZ and N.America. I'll need a 375H&H mag bolt gun open sights for thick skinned dangerous game in both Africa and N.America. Maybe go a .300 blackout in a AR platform for f***

It's fascinating stuff that's for sure... At the moment she works for a company who design and supply dna testing equipment she's part of the technical support team but it's not really what she wants to make a career out of before that she was doing some work on war graves around Europe helping to identify remains and she would really like to get back to doing that sort of thing once she's settled and set up. Sounds like Bones! Cool stuff.

Anthropology is a fascinating area of science. That and evolutionary biology are the only other things I'd maybe liked to study properly. What job does she do Kanny? I was having this conversation the other day and other than Uni research what is there in that field?

That's interesting as my wife said a very similar thing when researching my looks as I have dark skin black hair but green eyes... Everyone on my dad's side is dark with green eyes but I do know like I said they were Romany barge gypsies they used to run coal along the trent before the trains took over I think green eye's are very typical of Celtic and Northern European. Darkish skin and dark hair most folks seem to relate to Asian or Southern European, which I guess is true but not exclusively. I think those areas tend to be associated with brown eyes too? My family has typically t
