All funded by an increased tax burden on those who have done well for themselves thereby further discouraging them from raising kids of their own, who would stand a good chance of going on to do the same. Equality is the solution, not equity.

LOL, I agree in principle but not quite willing to start labelling folks dossers and wasters. I just don't know enough to do that. We've all seen what we've seen though so I understand perfectly. We have a society that through sympathy for the vulnerable seems to encourage adults who can't provide for themselves to breed more and discourages those that can from breeding at all! I'm not suggesting that we shouldn't help the vulnerable but we need to be careful that well meaning care doesn't actually become the cause of the problem. I don't understand the belief "There shouldn't be poverty these days"...... Why? It's undoubtedly a good ideal but pragmatically, why? The only reason there's so much money about these days is because of free markets and free markets expose natural inequality. Can anyone suggest a system that raises people up without encouraging those who can't support themselves from breeding more than those that can? Therefore compounding the problem. I really think stuff like that is great. Just primal man and beast for the sake of satisfying the caveman within. Ignoring the ethics of it all because it has a way taking all the fun out of life, what other countries have traditions like that? We don't in the UK anymore. I'd say obvious ones are the bull runs and fights in southern Europe. 'Bulldogging' in NZ and probably southern Africa has to be up there.

Funny enough, a neighbour of mine topped himself couple days ago. Totally unrelated but until I found out what caused his death my first thought of course was COVID, lol, and I fully expected the street to turn on the blame game for any tiny indiscretion in their grief.

Fair Of course we will need to reassess our policies and strategies after this. They're adapting even now, never mind afterwards. It appears that old strategies were based on an influenza epidemic. Some folks are already blaming the government. I just think it's very easy to blame them but it's not exactly in the interest of a 5year administration to direct appropriate resources to plan for a once in a century event when the people that give them power are more concerned about when they can claim state pension and how often their bins are collected. We're all responsible for that. G

I've sort of said what I meant in response to kanny. I'm saying that I'd like to see the case to prove that a full martial law style lockdown would be achieving significantly more than what this current moderate one is. I agree, the virus won't just die if we hide and we can't hide forever anyway. But as we learn about it we can adapt strategy to contain and fight it. A good vaccine may be the ultimate solution but there are more tactics open to us than that.

I'm not 'throwing' anything around. I said, "what if it works" in response to suggestions that the current UK strategy is insufficient, neither here nor there. If the UK's moderate lockdown achieves the same as a full lockdown then surely it has worked? And in doing so we haven't sacrificed everything to achieve that. Yesterday was six days after the peak of the last wave... No matter what we had done it was going to be a bad day. The next six days will really tell us whether of not this moderate lockdown has worked.

Canine coronavirus is only responsible for 10% of kennel cough so even if there is some sort of cross immunity to be gained from it (not sure about that) then surely it’d only happen for 10% of cases?

Aye, I'm sure they were. The reputable academics I've seen in podcasts etc don't go in for all that bollocks because they know it looks wanky. They're there front and center with an intro and formalities and the papers (if even necessary because they have prepared) come at the time they are needed for reference. I googled him, and yeah he's a chiropractor. There was vague references of 5G and flat earth in some of the links and it just confirmed for me that he's far from a reputable source. My first 'red flag' was watching him shuffle through papers at the beginning. Absolutely no relevance and was entirely to make himself look 'professional'.
